  1. For 2019, I would take AD and Holiday over Aldridge and DeRozan. I might take Jokic and Gary Harris. Are we sure Aldridge will play at an all-NBA level sharing the rock with DeRozan?

The main problem with the Spurs though is that they are old. LMA (33), Gasol (38), Ginobli (41), Gay (32), Mills (30) all are past their prime. You don't really know what an extra year will do to their performance. It won't get better. They also lost Parker, Anderson, and Green.

On the flip a lot of young players in the West ARE going to get better. Towns, Lonzo, Ingram, Dennis Smith, Mitchel, Wiggins, Kuzma, Harris, Fox, Josh Jackson, Jamal Murray, Julius Randle, Josh Hart and others will improve. The Spurs young players will also get better, but will it be enough to compensate for their older players? I personally doubt it.

Uh, no. Boston got Kyrie in that trade and Thomas was coming off a hip injury that was so bad Cleveland almost backed out of the deal.

People viewed the Kyrie (25 ppg, 5.8 apg)  for I.T. (28.9 ppg, 5.9 apg) trade as only a SLIGHT advantage for Boston given the popularity of Thomas and the year that he just had.  Heck, he was 5th in MVP voting at the time of the trade...

But then when you factored in the Nets pick, which everyone assumed would be a top-3 pick, everyone felt that it was a horrible trade for Boston.  Most people overlooked the fact that with no incentive to tank, the Nets might not have such a terrible record (especially in the East).

Moreover, any injury concerns for IT were balanced by the fact that Kyrie himself had not been the healthiest player either.

Regardless, IT has landed in a good situation in Denver.  He will be an excellent 6th man if he will embrace the role.  Denver is building something good/

  3. I make them as described above. Tanq and Noilly Prat, shaken hard with olive garnish. If a bartender ever asks me if I want vodka or gin in my martini I immediately lose respect for them.

I can get on board with a vodka martini, but that is exactly what it is... a vodka martini, not a MARTINI. Same with chocolate martini, marshmallow martini, whatever. Those are something else served in a martini glass. I don't hate on anyone drinking them and will join in. But only a martini is a martini.

I hate a Gibson FWIW. Terrible.

Best martini I ever had was a restaurant in Denver. Served it in a glass that had a half inch thick layer of ice around the outside of the glass. It looked awesome and was COLD.

  4. Right now Houston is +800 to win the title next year.  Personally I think that it is 50/50 whether Boogie will be a net addition or subtraction to GSW.  He may not be back physically at a point that he can contribute next year.  Plus, he is a known locker room cancer.

Houston took the Warriors to 7 games last year and could have absolutely won if Chris Paul were playing.  Does adding Boogie really give them 12X better odds than Houston?

Then you have Boston adding two all-stars in Kyrie and Hayward, plus their young core getting a year older.  They are much hungrier than the Warriors.  Should GSW really have ~8x better odds than them?

People are WAY over-hyping the Boogie addition.

LeBron wants to average 25 a game for the next 4 seasons, pass Kareem for all time points and retire.

He will stay in the NBA long enough to have a chance at playing with his son, IMHO.  That means he has 6 more years left.

Also regarding VORP, doesn't it take into account who your replacement player is?  For example, if you are on a team where your replacement player is Lou Williams, your VORP would be lower than if your replacement player is Kyle Korver.  So an awesome player on a terrible team would have a very high VORP, while a great player on a stacked team would have a lower VORP.

The lakers were 12 games out of the playoffs and 30 games out of first in the West. They were 14 games out of third and 23 out of 2nd.

The Lakers were a very young team last year.  Their main players were Lonzo (20), Ingram (20), Kuzma (22), Randle (23), KCP (24),  Hart (22), and Lopez (29).  Even if they had just run it back with this group, they would have improved.

The Lakers lost 13 games last year by a combined 36 points (2.7 ppg) including 5 losses in overtime.  With simply another year of experience and a healthy Lonzo I think they win half of those next year.  So let's say that is +7 wins.

Then add in LeBron who had a "wins over replacement player" of 24 last year (leading the NBA).  Let's say that slips a little in LA with a slightly stronger supporting cast and another year of wear and tear.  So let's make that +20.

That gets you +27 wins all the way to 62 wins.  Seems too optimistic when Cleveland only won 50 last year. But I would say they win somewhere between 50-60 which gets them to a top-3 seed in the West.
