Easy there, he made those conversions against the #31 ranked defense in the league.  That wasn't nut-cutting time that was teams have been doing this all year against the Chiefs defense time.

Yeah, not a great defense for the season but good enough to completely shut down Andrew Luck and that Indy offense the week before (along with KC's, the hottest offense in the league at the time).  The OT plays from yesterday mentioned above were well defended.  Just better execution by Brady.  As poor as his pick in the end zone was all of his throws in OT were pretty much money.   And he's done the latter quite often with the game on the line - against both crap defenses and elite ones.

I think there's a very slim chance the one or both do retire on top if they win. But it's not going to be one of those riding off into the sunset together kind of things. There's some real dislike there these days, and both probably have a desire to prove their worth without the other. Hence BB being so upset when they traded away what he thought would be their quarterback of the future.

Yeah, there's alway going to be some friction within that trio of BB, Brady and Kraft.   Brady adores Kraft, especially when the latter made BB get rid of Garappolo to eliminate that uncomfortable QB situation.  As you mention, didn't sit well with BB.   But I could see Brady hanging it up if NE wins.  As mentioned in another thread, he and Gronkowski are joined at the hip and the latter is likely retiring at the end of this year.  And even Brady is realistic about the climb to the Super Bowl and going out on top is an opportunity that may not always be there.  And then there's Giselle.  As much as Brady is consumed by football, he's also into his family and she's been trying to pry him away from the game for a couple years now.

LA has a legitimate shot if Suh, Donald and Brockers can consistently generate pressure on Brady. The NYG teams that defeated the Patriots successfully generated interior pressure and consistently collapsed the pocket with 4 man rushes. It flustered Brady and threw him off his game, LA has the best defensive line in the NFL. It's quite the feat for a 3tech DE in a 3-4 scheme who faces double teams on more than 70% of his snaps to accumulate 20 sacks.

Patriots have adapted over the years especially with Brady losing some arm strength - relying more and more on short / quick throws which generally eliminate the pressure concern, even with 2 players as good as Donald and Suh.  If pressure becomes an issue of any sort, they'll screen the Rams into bolivion.

This is great matchup for New England offensively.  Outside of Talib the Rams back 7 isn't very good.  It will likely be death by a thousand cuts with New England getting tons of intermediate route yardage.

He's the best color guy ever. Not even close. It's like watching pop up video when he's talking.

And his contract with CBS is up after next season.

I'm guessing he's going to get a bit of a raise and that CBS won't be the only one offering one to him....

It was a free play. QBs will make a more daring play when they know they've got a free five yards at the snap.

I'm probably the biggest Brady homer on this board but he said in his Monday call on WEEI this morning that he was unaware of the flag.  At least he was an honest.

It will go beyond "consideration".   This will happen - has to after yesterday.   The spot nature of a PI call makes this even more mandatory, when you can have 50 yard penalties in the blink of an eye.

The NFL needs to modify the PI penalty anyway.  I've always thought it should be the lesser of the two - 15 yards or spot of the foul.

  7. Brady will have an interesting decision if he wins his 6th.  The "playing 'til I'm 45" may have some wheels to it but he and Gronkowski are tied at the hip.  And with him likely retiring after this season, with a chance to go out on top and with Giselle continuing to be on his ass to hang it up, he might just well do that.

They have to win first against the Rams.  If they don't no way in hell he retires.

The system, particularly all day protection from the OL, is the main reason for Tom's success. Sure he's smart and accurate, but he's not the secretariat QB that people think

The Patriots system is a reason for Brady's success, no doubt.  But the primary / main reason?   Not so much.   Just go to those plays Brady made on the final drive, including throws to convert three 3rd and 10s.   In the absolute most pressurized situation, in a hostile atmosphere, with the season on the line when it's nut-cutting time, Brady made plays, and always has made these plays.  Poise, execution and clutch play like we've never seen has very little to do with the Patriots system.

  9. From Peter King's column.  This seems pretty crazy, the day of.

“We just put in eight new plays in the game plan this morning,” Brady told me. At the team hotel, the Westin Crown Center in Kansas City, the offensive players were greeted at the 11 a.m. meeting with the news that eight new plays were being installed for the game. That happens, but not every week, and not eight plays’ worth. They walked through the plays in a hotel ballroom, then ran four or five of them during the game—all for positive yards.

I mostly meant that he has Belichick as his coach and agree about his dedication, work ethic, etc.

Yes, can't discount importance of having Belichick alongside.   Reading more and more about how they schemed to shut down Hill and Kelsey yesterday and completely shut KC down in the 1H and held them to < 300 total yards for the game. Great coaching job by Belichick and staff.

He's really fucking good and really fucking lucky.

If by lucky you mean playing in the AFC East, no doubt.

Other than that, it's more so about preparation, dedication, intensity, desire and about 10 other things that don't really have much to do with "luck".

    Tom Brady

A bunch of other guys way the fuck below him, and I’m a Cowboys fan.

    maybe start with

    Jim Brown

    Jerry Rice

    Lawrence Taylor

From Michael Smith / Pro Football Talk:

Brady has had 17 (healthy) seasons as a starter and been to the Super Bowl 9 times. The last 6 QBs inducted into the Hall of Fame (Warner, Favre, Stabler, Moon, Marino, Young) were starters for a combined 76 seasons and went to a total of 8 Super Bowls.

  13. Brady's pre-snap reads are the best the game has ever seen.  He dissects defenses within 6 to 8 seconds of the play clock expiring like no one that's ever played the game.

Watch this aspect of the game and understand why the guy is so damn good.
