  1. I guess this was the last episode of the season?

    1. Zazie Beets is one of the finest things walking this earth. Period. Full stop.

    2. Just another...... Wtf.... Episode. Kinda funny. But also just wtf for the sake of being wtf. Like why do I have to see 20 seconds of an artsy background covering up a pissing scene? Because it made Donald Glover giggle when he thought of it? Fuck off.

  2. Big win, again! It's insane how good Driussi can be when he's being marked heavily and not necessarily showing danger in the attacking third. He can one-touch the ball and put us in advantageous positions, or make a quick turn and pass from close to midfield and put Fagundez on for a 2nd goal. He's so damn good.

I don’t know why it didn’t get more buzz. it’s a fun movie, underrated.

I enjoy the hell out of it, bought it on prime just so I have somewhere to watch it. But I can't think of many people to suggest it to. You have to be ok with a meandering storyline (one of the knocks of Dazed & Confused, if you don't "get it") and comedy based on congregated dude humor. And college. And sports/competition.

This was really good and moves along like a freight train. It is definitely a Sam Raimi film. It’s basically a Marvel Evil Dead movie.

Oh thaaat's who Sam Raimi is? That makes a bit more sense of the movie to me. I saw it last night, thought it was pretty good. Thought the pacing was kinda frantic, but I guess by now we should know wtf is going on. The other thing that threw me off was the dialogue and feel of the movie was kinda..... YA. The witchcraft stuff didn't help, but kinda how they introduced conflict and figured out how to resolve it, felt "young". I understand it's a comic book movie, but I hadn't necessarily felt that way about previous Marvel movies. Could have been the teenager in the film too, not that she did bad, but it kinda softens the movie up. I think she's even younger than Peter Parker is supposed to be, or feels like it.

  5. Finished last night, didn't hate it, but didn't love it. The show was getting stupider by the season so I didn't expect them to fix all the problems with it by the last episode. I agree that as a whole, it was very unsatisfying, but I might be in the minority in being satisfied that at least all the idiots that took the "Fuck the Cartel" stance found out after fucking around. Them Mizzous really thought their trailer park operations made them mob bosses, except they had no mob.

I’ve never been there, but we are going to La Gruta after the pyramids.  It appears to have the largest and most spectacular caves, but it’s also looks like the most touristy.  There’s other cavelike restaurants in the area that I’d rather go to, like Mictlán; they are smaller, but not quite as touristy. La Caverna is another restaurant in the area.

Make another post on this thread so I can rep again for the Mictlan rec, everybody in the group loved it.  That little drive out there is definitely misleading and I almost doubted myself when I saw the desert, the shacks outside, etc., then you walk down into the cave and understand the experience. Even surprised myself and didn't hesitate to try the chapulines.

Killed it in CDMX this weekend. We had a driver for the weekend so I couldn't have ever done it as badass on my own. Xochimilco and Lucha Libre on Friday, Teotihucan/Mictlan and Estadio Azteca (Cruz Azul vs Necaxa play-in) on Saturday, Puebla/Cholula (maybe my favorite part of the trip, what a kick ass little city) and then Plaza Garibaldi to round out the night on Sunday. Badass weekend. Mole poblano in Cholula might have been the best meal of the trip, but it was definitely rivaled by the birria de chivo tacos this morning from La Polar. I needed those yesterday instead for the crudo tequila put on me during the Canelo loss.

La Murga?  Los Verdes?   Los Jefes?   In Austin?    lol.....Keep on trying. No one is buying this.

No mames wey. The Verdes & Murga have a sizable Latino influence. Over-proportionate to our population in Austin proper.

Anyways. Glad this was the first game I missed this year (on TV).... We got plenty of space to prove ourselves against playoff-bound teams this summer though. Let's get some points.

  8. I fuckin hate the closest Whataburger to me (MLK/Airport in Austin), but I gotta hand it to them, I really enjoyed my Southern Bacon Double on Saturday. They didn't get my DP shake right (chocolate instead), but I was gruntled by the meal. The slaw did about the same thing that lettuce does (mostly crunch, but a tiny bit more flavor than lettuce).

  9. I haven't seen any discussion on my twitter timeline about Atlanta like I had the past season. I understand why. Also, Donald basically warned about this when he basically said Season 4 would be better. I get the messaging, but I'd think the point of the FX medium would be to make these issues just a biiit more exciting than reading about them in a think-piece?

  10. Not bad, but not nearly as good as I'd hoped it would be. I'd say solid B-movie material that stylized itself into a B+ movie.

The story seemed to want me to root for the protagonist, but all the Kings were basically just in an endless cycle of raping/pillaging/enslaving. Didn't necessarily side with the one that the movie decided to follow. (Not that they claimed he was the "moral" one necessarily either, just a weird protagonist)

Grateful for an Anya Taylor-Joy role, but damn that was a thin role for a female lead. Viking sneak-swims onboard boat, they exchange 3 words, and are now inseparable. Bc I guess they needed another woman in the movie.

  11. The week is finally here. Paid the upcharge (vs. leaving from SA) out of Austin, but arriving a few hours earlier than the earliest out of SA, so I"m good with the trade-off.

Friday - Xochimilco and if not completely wasted, Lucha Libre in the evening.

Saturday - Teotihuacan and hopefully a cave restaurant outside the pyramids (Any suggestions??) and then find somewhere to watch the Canelo fight.

Sunday - Short day excursion to Puebla to just wander around and walk through the city. Leaving Monday afternoon.

Will try a quesadilla this time, and every damn taco I see in the city. Or at least every taco stand that people seem to be eating at so I don't catch the chorro for 3 months like I did last time.

  12. Taylor/Serrano was incredible. I haven't been a fan of women's boxing in a while, but damn did they knock that showcase out of the park.

Disappointed in Stevenson/Valdez, but I see why they were dying to get Valdez in there. That size and length mismatch was outrageous. Stevenson needs to move up to get tested, nobody will be able to deal with his mastery of distance unless they're his length and can match the output.

  13. Wasn't pretty but felt like we controlled the game after about the 30th.... Dani is having himself a breakout year. Kid is playing his ass off.

  14. Hell yeah, big win!

I think Urruti is starting to warm up, his stock gotta be soaring right now. He seems to keep finding himself in dangerous positions. And at least has the balls to take the shots.

Good info, thanks. I have heard the graders are super backed up. I’m sure it’s a significant hit to value to sell ungraded?

I also found a Fleer Ultra Gold David Ortiz (Arias on the card) RC. That was my best “find” when I went through them since I never knew I had the card.

In general yeah you can probably wrangle a few hundred more out of a card like that if it's graded well. But if it's sitting at an 8 or lower, you might as well keep it raw. If you're selling it on ebay though, you can set your minimum and go from there.

I was huge into baseball cards growing up in the 90s. I would go to the card shop weekly and visit the card shows that came to town or when taking family trips.

My parents have been asking me to take them out of their house for 15 years which I did in December. Looking through them was a wonderful experience. I was texting my childhood friend all sorts of great memories. I bought him a box of '89 Upper Deck for a groomsman gift. Alas, no Junior RC. He still dabbles in the hobby, primarily autographs.

The most valuable card I have is the one that actually triggered the end of the hobby for me. It is a 1999 Flair Showcase Legacy Collection Griffey. It was 1 of 99, the most rare card I had ever pulled, and it was my all time favorite player. I was 15 or so at the time and figured how could I ever top that. I've seen them on ebay for $1500+ but Beckett online says its $200-$500 depending on condition. It's well preserved but not graded. I also found an EX-2001 ARod signature card, a few refractors (Bernie Williams, Piazza, McGuire), Maddux RC.

The best advice I seem to have gotten since getting back into the hobby (half-assed) is to search ebay for sold items. You have to scroll down on filters but it's there. The last 99 Showcase Legacy Collection Griffey to sell was a 9.5 SGC-graded, went for $1500 plus. The days of Beckett are over, the market is basically what people will pay online. That's a sick card, can't seem to find any others on ebay, which makes sense because it's /99.

I've been doing the same cleaning out since my dad is selling his home in Houston. I took a bin home of my old high school shit and I have plenty of loose cards I had left behind. Found a Troy Polamalu SP Authentic Rookie /2200 that I wouldn't have thought much of, but it's going for $100+ on ebay. Might triple in value if I can send it in and get a 9 or higher out of it. It's pretty sharp. Don't forget about those stars that maybe you didn't think about much but others might.

It's exactly the type of dorky, shitty blog post you'd expect someone that travels to DC for an MLS game to make.

With a rubber chicken in tow as a mascot to a group of mostly grown ass men. I try not to be a downer but damn the supporters groups never stop sucking themselves off for their own performances. Team support > performative fandom.

But yeah, big win. Let's see what SAFC has tonight.

Phenomenal, completely unique and hilarious movie.  Can’t be described, but must be seen. I want to see a documentary movie about what the studio pitch meeting was like.  Bravest studio head in the industry to green light this film, but he/she was right to do so.

Loved it. 5/5 stars. A lot of philosophy and emotion wrapped in a completely crazy/silly movie.

Texas is in a funny place, particularly for out-of-state students.  Tuition is still relatively cheap, compared to "elite"ish private schools, but at almost all the private schools, no one pays full tuition.

We have a family friend that is admitted to Texas, but out of state.  Just about every private she's admitted to winds up being cheaper than Texas with "automatic aid" kind of like the Vanderbilt deal, and despite their "retail" tuition being double or more Texas'.

As a public state school, we rely on those kids as money-makers. Because they're willingly paying the higher cost to attend as an out-of-state student at that OOS rate. Private schools are on a whole other funding scheme.

  20. Will be going for the 2nd time after a few years hiatus. Long weekend in May. Can't wait. This will be a bit more debaucherous than the last trip though, probably doing xochimilco with 4 dudes, all of whom love to drink. I do too, but anything more than 2 travel mates makes me uncomfortable.
