That is addressed in the article, and it turns out Jan 3 may be too late.
It would still require a Jan 3 Congress to certify the vote. Do you think a Democratic Congress will certify that?
So, you would need to have the current, razor thing Congress go along with not extending the deadlines for electors. You would need to have the Supreme Court delay the state rulings past the deadline. Then you would need the SC to rule that the completely arbitrary, not-Constitutionally mandated deadline would take priority to recognizing the votes of millions of people. Then you would need the Jan 3 Congress to certify the obviously tainted election. Then you would need Biden to handing the keys over to Trump, someone who is obviously a fascist dictator who seized power by undemocratic, unConstitutional ways. If you get past the third step, with the SC, it may get into some "constitutional crisis" grey area, but there is still a lot of off-ramps before handing the keys over to Trump.

Mike Johnson is not going to be speaker on January 3. He can't do jack and shit.
It does not matter.
I think Mike Johnson will tell Trump what Trump wants to hear so Trump will allow him to keep being Speaker for the next 3 months. I take any speculation over a secret plan in that context.

Looks like a couple of cops setting up a sign to indicate where the end of the voting line is. You can't really see the front of the uniforms well, but the little glimpses look right. It looks like it was posted at 5:54 PM, so that would be after 5 PM, not 2 PM.
Looks like bullshit to me.

Can we stop pretending that this election hinges on what Biden says or whether Harris goes on Rogan. Her campaign is clearly more competent.
If she loses, it's because America prefers Trump's vision.

In an ordinary situation that's usually the case. In present day USA Trump Republicans have shown it's all about mucking up the system and exploiting it's inherent weaknesses.
So what happens if the Supreme Court, which has already shown favoritism towards trump with the ridiculous immunity bullshit, goes along with his legal coup attempt? What happens then?
I don't know man. Is there something you think we can do before the election? Because if not, I would probably table it until 1)we confirm that Harris got more votes and 2) that the same crack team that booked a press conference at a lawn care company has come up with some plausible means overthrowing the United States government.
I have a hard time worrying about that compared to the possibility that a majority of Americans might actual favor the 2024 version of Trump to a competent campaign. A coup is a few hundred people, maybe. But an election, that's a bigger deal.
I think the good guys win, and win pretty comfortably. But I am still going to be nervous for the next week.

This is such Trump bait. He is going to have to talk about how his Jan 6th crowd was bigger. He is going to brag about Jan 6th and his role in it a week before the election.

Super clean website that citypulse. I clicked on it so the rest of you do not have to. The rest of that quote is pretty outstanding. Why is it so fucking hard to understand? ....
Trump and his allies have done grave damage to the Republican Party — both in Michigan and nationally.
If I recall correctly, the Michigan Republican Party was taken over by the idiot MAGA faction and has run it into the fucking ground. They have either expelled or repulsed the old guard and have basically bankrupted the state party. This endorsement is about Harris, but is also an attempt to regain control of the state Party. I applaud both.

The podcaster who provoked an angry backlash against Donald Trump’s campaign with a racist joke about Puerto Rico reportedly tested out the gags at a comedy club the night before delivering them at Sunday’s televised rally at Madison Square Garden.
Tony Hinchcliffe, whose 11-minute set has thrown Trump’s team into damage-limitation mode a week before the presidential election, made the same quip, calling the territory “a floating island of garbage”, at the Stand club in New York on Saturday, according to NBC.
The joke bombed, drawing just a few awkward chuckles, NBC said, citing one of its own producers and three audience members.
Hinchcliffe, who told patrons several times that he would be performing at Trump’s rally, responded by saying he hoped it would get a better reaction the following day.

Thank you!
You know, with a more racist crowd.

Yeah these fucking october surprises worry me more than getting a vote or two delta this would bring. 3 hours can exhaust any candidate to make a mistake (except Donny because he always makes mistakes so why give a shit)
We are now in GOTV mode, coordinate with people you know will vote dem and offer them a ride if you have to.
I was pretty neutral on whether she go on Rogan. I know there is some concern that it would serve to validate him as legitimate media. I just don't know his show well enough to have an opinion on that.
But traveling there and then doing three hours live? No fucking way. That's not "going on his show" anymore, that's kissing the ring. It's more than she would give to any other media outlet, whether that's straight news or a talk show. And that, alone, would get noticed and would be written about. And she'd look weak. It's not the same rules for Donald Trump. It's not the same rules for men.

The Puerto Rico racism reaction is great because it reminds people what Trump previous said and did when the hurricane hit Puerto Rico. It also gets people who may have not bothered voting to be motivated by anger. If the right can use anger to its advantage then the left needs to run with it when it is handed to them on a silver platter. It also lets Hispanic people know that even if you think you'll be fine under Trump, this is what they think about you.
Right. It has nothing at all to do with immigration. It's that MAGA believes people who speak Spanish are dirty. That is the core belief that everything else is twisted around.
Edit to add: Also, a lot of middle class Americans have visited Puerto Rico and have a positive opinion of it.

Also, fuck that guy. Climate change denying asswipe has a point, but who’d take advice from that nutter?
So fucking weird - Dave and I were good friends sophomore year in high school. He was a rabid pro-lifer even back then. A bit of a prick, but so was I. I had no idea he had gone pro with being an asshole. Good for him, I guess. I'm maintaining my amateur status, in case it becomes an Olympic sport. Obviously we hadn't kept up over the years. He went to a different school after sophomore year. I'm pretty sure the last time I saw him (or heard anything about him until today) is when I kicked him out of a party senior year.
I think his post may be as much about trying to save Bacon and Fischer as it is about dumping Trump. If Trump is going to lose NE-2, it's important to signal to Republicans to not throw the baby out with the bathwater. Stress the importance of divided government under a Democratic President so they still show up and vote down ballot.

“He had a joke calling [Vice President Kamala] Harris a cunt,” a campaign insider involved in the discussions about the event told The Bulwark. “Let’s say it was a red flag.”
Four Trump campaign sources confirmed Trump's campaigned edited Tony Hinchcliffe's routine, “It could have been even worse.”
https://www.thebulwark.com/p/trumps-shock-comic-was-set-to-call?utm_campaign=post&triedRedirect=true
So the campaign reviewed the Puerto Rico joke and gave the thumbs up. Same with the Latino immigrant jokes. Maybe the watermelon joke was ad libbed.
Honestly, if Trump wanted to sue these dipshits for malpractice, gross incompetence, whatever, it might be one of the few cases his attorneys could win.-

So if that poll is correct and votes do the same Nebraska would be 2/2?
4 electors for Trump vs 1 for Harris.
But, if that polling were to hold up in ne-2, it flips a Congressman, possibly a Senator, affects some state leg races, and affects some pot and abortion ballot initiatives. I wish Omaha city races were concurrent. If Omaha (ne2) is that blue, you can’t really sleep on Lincoln (ne-1) either.
We’ll find out when the big poll comes out in 8 days.-

Well as stated my point it its far more likely someone on the far left did this specific act. They have shown a repeated propensity to destroy public property in Portland to express their political opinion.
I guess someone could be stupid enough to think they could influence the outcome of an election by destroying ballots in a highly blue area one drop box at a time.
I think it’s a reasonable position if you were just talking about Portland.
Throw in Vancouver WA, which doesn’t share any election except Presidential with Portland, and I think that tilts the likelihood strongly in the favor of fascists. At that point, it’s not about trying to influence a particular race, but rather about attacking confidence in voting. That’s squarely in the right-wing wheelhouse.-

Re Rick Scott - there's a million Puerto Rican voters in FL and he's up for reelection.
And now it's a wedge issue - splitting those who rail against the PC/woke world and those who believe you shouldn't call you constituents "garbage." The campaign is such a dumpster fire, they October-surprise themselves.

Yeah, New York and London are international cities. New York is arguably the economic and cultural capitol of the Western Hemisphere. Having international cities as part of America helps America extend its influence throughout the world.

100% Agreed. Comedy can be about whomever you want to poke fun at, no limits. IMO the only rule is you got to be smart enough to make it funny, interesting, novel, or thought provoking etc. But at a political rally? Fuck no.
Especially considering he tied the Latino joke into "just like they are coming in to this country." He's using the "humor" to fire up the crowd over policy.

So even if we set aside that he's an insult comic, why would you take this job at a campaign rally? Are you hoping to broaden your MAGA listenership? I'm sure he'll get a lot of support from the shitbags out there. I just don't get why you would even entertain doing that unless you feel you're untouchable. Of course the ultimate just rewards will be that if Trump loses the election and some canvassing references this guy, MAGA is going to want to destroy him.
Yes, I think he is looking to pick up additional audience.
The more pertinent question is why would the campaign book him. It's not like his act is some secret. Having racist humor as part of the warmup was part of the agenda.

Este. I'm guilty as well. Tony can be a very funny guy, but this wasn't funny. In a comedy club setting his comments of today would probably come off more on the sarcasm/irony/parody side ... but in this setting, they don't ring the same way and come off more as him expressing those hateful thoughts as his own. Maybe that's not how he meant it, but man, I don't see how he can justify it in a political setting such as that one. I'm done supporting him, too.
Right. And when the get blowback for racist or other "non-PC" stuff at a show, they push back with "hey this is a comedy act, not meant to be taken seriously, chill out, just having fun, etc..) When it's part of a political rally, you don't get that cover anymore. You just don't. And it demonstrates it was never just about having fun.
But, at the end of the day, he will gain some following out of this. So, he achieved his goal. So did some other speakers. I don't think they helped Donald much.

2024 Presidential Election Thread - Let's keep the party going.

Actually the article says it wouldn't get to that point. The scheme would be to remove blue electors (by delaying until they are past the deadline) until red electors are the majority of the remainder.
