No, Alabama's 2 starting safeties were not out against Texas.

Alabama rotates 3 safeties - all 3 have 300+ snaps and have played in all 5 games.

There you go being literal.  What they meant was 3 safeties had the flu all week so they were out for practice (along with 6 other starters and I heard 3 coaches and a security guard).  If healthy, like they are this week, this Alabama defense would have shut out UT.

If Bama barely beats them, no one will need to troll. That’s the sweet spot for ATM. Getting beat by a big brand but looking like you almost belong? They would all get in line for days to play that role.

Please don't forget that one call they didn't get that if refs had made, they would have won.  Also, the rumor is the ref that kept the flag in his pocket is Longhorn fan.

Daniel hits on all the points. I think it goes beyond the heat wave. Inflation is hammering the shit out of most families between groceries, gas, energy everything, and $40 brisket kicks the shit out of them.

I also think there is a bit of barbecue fatigue. I now rarely get it , even though I have a richness of opportunities within 20 minutes of my house. Maybe it’s the diabetes meds I’m on which kill my appetite but I just don’t get it but about once a month.

I think he missed one important point and that is bbq places have not yet figured out how to speed up their service.  Even at Truth, which is my main bbq joint, my brisket has been lukewarm by time I get to eat sometimes since the cashier is super slow.

I would be way more willing to go to bbq joints and try new things, like pork steak, if it didn’t mean having to wait in a line, watch people cut in line, and wait a few minutes after being served to pay for said meal.

PM @Patricio Swayze. He loves Feges. Loves, loves, LOVES it. Can't stop raving about the place. It's become a problem.

Think you’re mistaken.  He loves Pinkertons, not Feges.

ps Feges SB has a delish rice bowl when you want bbq but are 47 years old and need to control your weekday calories

I'm a Production Manager at a fence company in Austin so I'm able to answer your questions and give some advice. As mentioned above, you can ask the neighbors to split the cost but don't count on it. 99% of the jobs we sell are to just one buyer. Rarely do they split the cost of replacing the fence.

This is very good advice. It'll make it easier to communicate your wants with your estimator. It'll make it easier to ask specific questions if you're just talking about 1 style of fence rather than asking about multiple fence types. In my option, ask for round steel posts as they will last much longer than your wood fence will last and you can reuse them in the future. Go with Western Red Cedar rails and pickets. We also offer treated rails and import cedar pickets but they don't last as long

All this is supremely helpful, thanks.

Random questions when you have time that I would DM you but figure could be helpful for other useless people like myself:

    1) is there a best time of year?  And by best time of year, I mean lowest cost for consumer due to materials or limited demand or some other variable?

    2) I have 250 feet of fence with two gates.  What is rough rough estimate given your suggestions of steel plus western cedar for those parameters?  Standard size height (it’s a rental so I ain’t building the Alamo).

As a long time Austin resident, I think I view the UT fan base on a micro level. All my UT fan friends are cool and reasonable folks who never act like the people in this thread. When I step back and get the overhead macro view, everything people say about you is true. You’re really awful. It’s probably the one thing aggy is actually right about.

A visitor dude on a longhorn board talking about online longhorns being meanies is quite something.  Top ten dumbest paragraphs I've read on here...well, non-CR paragraphs.

Be a man and make fun of us for looking like shit versus Rice or something, damn.

  7. Deion was must watch tv on Sundays and now, for at least two weeks in September, is must watch tv on Saturdays.  Love him or hate him, very very few people in this world can claim what he has done.  Complete respect.

And everyone flipping to "TCU isn't good" is so predictable.  It's like you cant admit how wrong you were.  And ftr, I would have bet my house on TCU moneyline if I was in Vegas so I'm glad I didn't bet....I'm just not a hater.

Who gives a fuck what he thinks? Play the games, watch the games, have fun, talk shit.

But some Tech fans cry when Longhorn fans talk shit on a Tech thread while on a longhorn board.  I’m very confused whether we can or cannot talk shit.

Just got back from a 1/2 day physical at Austin Heart Hospital that included the CT scan.

28.4 Agatson score with 2.84 in LAD.  Mild but not great.  No blockages though and everything else in the body running solid based on stress test and ultrasounds

My cholesterol has always been fine and TriGs see saw.  I was up over 280 at one point a few years back, but at 175 today.  When I am working out regularly, TriGs are generally under 125 when I look at past results

LDL was at 124 which is normally fine, but given calcium score, they want it under 70 which seems but so but I’ll give it a go.  Doc gave me a statin prescription but I am hesitant to start that and thinking diet and exercise for 90 days, retest, and see if LDL and TriG goes down.  But curious others’ thoughts presuming I don’t get the side effect if I might as well do both?

Anyway, I am 47 so glad I found this thread as it got me to do the scan.

Did you request a half day physical or some underlying condition forced it on you?   Haven’t heard of one of these but I would be interested in it from sheer curious it’s…also 47.

  10. Not a genius learning lesson here but after tracking usage, I was averaging 22 hours per day a/c use.  Called an a/c guy.  He did some shit and was still running 22 hours per day.

So after a week, called a different guy.  He added Freon and said he doubts previous guy added freon since no leak in coil.  The system has been working 11 hours per day ever since which is more normal.

I wonder where the original a/c mechanic went to drink beer with the money I gave him to “fix and add Freon”?  Did he drink dos xx or more of a liquor kind of guy?

  11. I have crypto that I luckily got into in 2017.

AndI know you said rental home was zzz zzz, which I have in city, but I’m laddering some CD’s for Jan 2024 to buy a property in the country somewhere.  Could be rental that might be long term or air bnb.  Could be land only.  I’m not sure but I know I’d like some more country in my portfolio.

The ploy would be to undermine the education and force parents to seek out private schools and possibly move them to supporting initiatives like the school voucher programs which are to take money away from public schools and push them into private/charter schools.   Miles has a conflict of interest as he is a founder and proponent of charter schools.    This is akin to putting Exxon executives in charge of the EPA and then pretending that he might be objective.

Egos and lack of intelligence is just a throw-away sentence.  Give examples.  Corruption makes headlines because it includes people siphoning public money away from the designated use for pet projects which are designed to enrich friends of individuals.  That is NEWS.  The issues with education are numerous and not easy, but the involvement of politics in our education system has undercut our education not improved it.  Schools are saddled with more responsibilities and teachers are required to do more than they used to.

And define waste.  Is that something you don't like or is it something like a golden toilet for the superintendent?  Because one of them is easy to identify, but the others are not.

Let's focus on one issue currently.  SPED teaching aides are not required to have special training to work with SPED kids.  This creates challenges for the kids and the schools.  Just like with every industry out there how does one attract qualified, committed people for a particular job?

And also if you don't come here with an open mind and willing to learn, that speaks more about you than anyone else.  Don't project your prejudice upon others.  During a discussion and disagreement with Naija about genital mutilation I didn't pretend to be an expert or know everything and I solicited input from those who disagreed with me to read some published material and provide feedback.  I did so because I wanted to share a different viewpoint, but also to learn.   I defer to the actual physician about the impact because well, it was his area.   Brisket Texan was misinformed about the role of Alcibiades (who was a complex individual) and his role in the destruction of the Athenian force in their Syracuse/Sicilian campaign during the Peloponnesian war.  He didn't attempt to argue to the contrary but I think rather appreciated how much more enriching that history and this controversial figure was.   So no, I reject your idea that this isn't a place for sharing of ideas and changing minds.  We still enjoy our dick and fart jokes, but facts matter here to most of us.

I honestly don’t know if this response is a joke or not so I rather err on it being a joke and thus not respond than actually respond and you go “you didn’t catch on that i was fucking with you when I started bringing up Greek shit?  Do you Macedonia brah?"

Bloat and corruption would be fine to target. But this seems more like an opportunity to disenfranchise teachers, funnel money to his friends, limit oversight, reduce qualifications, reduce educating standards and play politics at the local level to punish voters who don’t like them.

This is a play to damage the schools and then point to how our schools are damaged and try to funnel money to charter schools who have even lower oversight.

But I am just a cynic.

Not that posts ever change anyone's mind but I know a lot about the education landscape and this move is in no way a play for charters whatsoever.  Political f you, likely.  But charters, not a chance.

And anyone who wants more oversight must want more administration/bloat.  They are very connected, sadly.

Egos and plain old lack of intelligence are biggest culprits of weak education system.  Corruption makes headlines but isn't a major factor in the downfall of education as its very rare to steal millions of dollars....not rare to waste millions of dollars because poor decisions were made by dumb or egotistical people.  I would put it at a ratio of 50:1 of waste:corruption.

  14. Sadly, I’m friends with a few people who use a lot of buzzwords but don’t like it.  However, I am not friends with anyone who grunts at the gym.  You got an Olympic invite, fine?  Otherwise, shut the f up.

Addition:  I am not friends with anyone who is perfectly normal and parks in handicap zone.

    Overzealous Christian.   Overzealous anti-Christian.

People who cannot be nice to kids or dogs.

Good list.  Also have friends who are both vegan or vegetarian but I definitely don’t have any friends who tell you they are vegan within 2 minutes of meeting them.  So I think delayed triggers are fine, ones who can’t wait to tell you I don’t like.

  17. Besides a person loudly and proudly proclaiming they don’t own a TV, what other singular act is 100% correlated to you not liking said person?

I’ve now met two dudes who take a vacation day every year on their birthdays.  Don’t like either of those betas.

interested to hear what other singular things cause you to pull parachute on ever being friends with someone.

  18. Merritt Meat Company in Round Top.  Everything was above average except the Brussels sprouts (seemed a touch burnt).   Brisket was hidden under ribs and sausage.  Fries were probably best I’ve had in a while.
