  1. Headed to Merritt Meat Company in Round Top on Friday.  Anyone been?  Offshoot from owners of Truth.  I eat Truth (houston) quite a bit so what's to lose.

I don't mind eating expensive beans as long as they're made by men so I'll let y'all know the prices.

A waiter there told me to go try El Hidalguense on Longpoint. Haven’t had the chance yet. Anyone been there?

I go about once a quarter.  I like it but it isn’t Teo good.  however it’s more convenient for me as I ride my bike up and down long point for lunch.   Not Tex mex, more gente

  3. Went to Mumbai, New Delhi, Calcutta, and Agra.

Fascinating all around.  I’ve traveled to over half the countries in the Americas and India is so much poorer than any slum in Central or South America, it isn’t comparable.  And Calcutta is somehow far and away worse than the other three cities.  And yes, I saw many people take shits in ditches or the coast line.

But also always felt very safe…safer than downtown Austin or any other place in America (country small towns included).  There is a peace to the poverty there that is hard to understand.

Also hooked up for a few days with a red-headed Australian singer that was the jazz lounge singer at the Oberoi Hotel so that was a nice treat.

Agreed - if the 8-year-old has an interest in space ... or really, any imagination at all, both JSC and KSC are ideal for that age.

(works for adults, too, with the same caveats)

Thanks.  Dumb question….do you just buy tickets and walk around like a museum or is it more like Disney in that you have to have a plan?  Like this specific area is interesting for adults but not kids so avoid it because it is a 8 minute walk in miserable heat type thing.

  5. Some folks with an 8 year old coming into town and want to take son to NASA.  Haven't been in 35 years.  Is it worth it to go with a family?  If so, any recs?I

does it have 2 tiers? gotta be able to do 2 briskets at once

Plan E now because only one tier and never did a brisket.  I think fine option for ribs and chicken but seems unwieldy for brisket and other long cooks where you have to mess with coals.  Oh well, wanted to pitch in for the cause

We need a Houston area Weber smoky mountain (WSM) 22" we can borrow for the weekend or another smoker that is relatively easy to transport to and from a tailgate with 2 dudes and a truck. Plan is to smoke our own meats.

I am 50/50 on going but even if I dont, I have a backup option for you.

I have one of those knockoff eggs that still works just fine.  I’m upgrading soon after 7 years and happy to give it to y’all and you can just leave it in Alabama.  It’s standard size so might be too small for your desires but I’ve made lots of delicious ribs and chicken on it.  Anyways, giving you plan D as the floor.

There is nothing “smart” about being the starting QB at Texas and having a girlfriend, much less one that is dumb enough to go to OU. Jesus.

If my son was on scholarship to play QB at Texas, my last bit of advice before sending him off would be: “You are a QB at the University of Texas. That’s like having a superpower. Get as much pussy, as fast as you can, all of the time. And don’t forget about Texas State. Make sure you visit friends down there during the off-season regularly.”

Agreed and if you don't believe papa, watch this.

  9. I recently got a nest and am wondering what is normal in a heat wave like right now in Texas.  I’m in Houston and unit runs between 20 and 21 hours a day.  Y’all know your usage per day?

We live in a 7 year old house that seems/seemed well insulated and have it at 73 at night and 76 during day.

this summer just feels different to my wife and I.  Seems like it’s working harder and just can’t keep up.  Got ac serviced and dude said all good so we are a bit puzzled.  I wish we had bought Nest before this summer.

I’m eating a Belly Burger right now.  I’m with you in hoping that Long Point continues to develop as a culinary destination.  That block now has Fenges, the Blind Goat, stuffed Belly, and some new Raman place called JINYA.

So how is the Belly Burger?  Menu looks delish and loaded tots be calling me.

  11. My wife and I went to Costco Bunker Hill and at self check-out, I decided to go to bathroom.  It’s my card and she got denied even after telling them I’m just taking a piss.  Had to let one person ahead of her and wait on me so they are getting strict about it apparently.

this is the very real pro move. 1 ear bud in and whatever else the fam wants to listen to they can that way. did that for the first time recently and it's great.

Why fake the funk?  I go two ear buds in and let them go all they can eat Taylor Swift.

Ps I’ve heard her so much since her concert in Houston that I’m a Swiftie now, don’t hate as it’s called Stockholm Syndrome.  Help me.

  13. Knocked out three Smartless (headphones) and one family podcasts (Stuff you should know) on our drive from Portsmouth NH to Bar Harbor Maine.

  14. Skip the Sisi on your trip to Vienna fo sure.

We went to Bratislava as a last minute suggestion told to us by someone in Vienna and loved slovakia but reading 956 makes me wish we did countryside.  I have very few specifics to help anyone other than that we enjoyed Slovakia.

Munich and Czech and Krakow were also on this trip and we drank a lot so don’t remember most restaurant names.

I did have drinks with a very old Nazi at the Hofbreau house.  He was by himself and coincidentally sat by us.  He and his buddies have/had been drinking there since 1950 and he was last one alive and still goes there.  He became Russian POW and was not freed until 1950 or something.  He didn’t deny holocaust but said average nazi soldier never saw that stuff.

I actually thought there were fewer fat scooter people this time than the last time I went

You must have gone on National Pancake Day because there were lots and lots of fat scooter people last week.

To balance it out, we’re in Portsmouth New Hampshire now and haven’t seen one obese person nor a scooter here.  While I’m thinking about it, haven’t seen a Waffle House either.

  16. We are on massive road trip with a 13 and 7 year old.

Any recommendations for story-driven family podcasts that are 30 min long to hold attention?  We have covered made it out alive podcasts but at 45-60 minutes long, great for us but 7 year old couldn't hang for that long.

Hell, I'd like to hear other recs for podcasts even if long too now that I'm typing this out.
