  1. With or without the (wide) dispersion of all my shots in the background? And yep, bought a nice mat so that helps a bunch.
  2. To boost the probability that Project 89 would become a success for me, decided to make a launch monitor in my garage. Uneekor Eye Mini Lite with all the fixins (screen, HD projector, gaming computer built by some dorks at Microcenter, etc). So far I love it. Don’t have enough space to hit a driver but can hit every other club and I love the data and not having to drive anywhere to hit 75 balls. Look forward to fall when garage isn’t baking. ps I still suck but am slowly improving
  3. Was in that area for a week and loved it so lucky you. I hate winters so would never go hence why it is tough to justify buying a place (and I don’t want t to be an out of state landlord again). And I’ve never looked so this area might be out of my price range anyways if what I paid for my rental there at like $500/night if I recall. But do let me know if any buddy of yours ever wants to rent out their place for two months in summer or something, ha. I’ll start looking at price points in two years most likely when reality of this becoming true is a bit closer.
  4. Let us know how this works out and what bang for your buck is for that area
  5. Football and tomahawks were not a bad combo.
  6. Madison came up. The cheese curds hit differently there.
  7. Ok, even though this summer has been great by TX standards, my wife and I agreed we only have a couple more summers of Texas left in us, ideally not spending mid-June to Labor Day here anymore. We are not Surly 1%ers (eliminates Aspen mountain-top cabin for three months) but we also eliminated a mobile home in Eight Mile so looking for the sweet spot in-between those options. We have also traveled a lot of the north-ish with exception of Michigan. But Maine to Washington, our favorite is def Wyoming/Montana followed by Maine adjacent. For all of us looking to leave dat heat for a season, any recommendations with reasonable budget? Dream scenario is some ski area that has reduced rent in summer so condo rentals are cheap (mammoth sorta checks box here). Do you migratory little birds buy or just long term rent? Do you always go back to same place or rotate?
  8. Yeah I watched Bunton not jump once and setter took advantage of her laziness and scored and then another time with Dev on tandem block, she was good four to five inches lower than Dev. Point being is as impressive as Swindle was in person, Bunton was the opposite.
  9. Fun atmosphere. About 60% longhorn fans. From game perspective, besides first set, lot of fun. Takeaways were Swindle is much taller and more physical in person than I thought. Stanford and Spears hit hard. Bunton is slow and doesn’t get up like everyone else around her.
  10. I was in MBA school when we had to analyze recently issued unknown stocks while some groups were tasked with shitting on the other groups analysis. Well this one stock called Netflix was undeniably a winner and no one could solidly shit on it. All the other new stocks had glaring weaknesses of one kind or another so I took all the spare money I had at the time and put it into Netflix because I believed in it so much. Great news, I tripled my money and got out quickly because I’m great at analysis and bought a couch or something. A whole couch. That same very little amount of money would be worth many millions now.
  11. I also went to this game to visit Stanford for grad school and watch the game. Worked at Enron at the time and they paid for all grad school visits so why the F not. Atmosphere and game were terrible but I do remember the positives: tiger and the fact that we were told ahead of time that security doesn’t check anything so we were able to bring in full bottles of liquor into the game and no one cared.
  12. For anyone in Houston, do you walk up and buy Rice tickets day of game? Buy in advance? TIA
  13. Made fig jam for fig-prosciutto pizzas and fig-cream cheese bagels. Easy process and deliciously fresh
  14. Watched it. It was exactly what you think a sequel like this would be like…decent movie, glad you went, but not great. though the night vision was one of funniest things I’ve seen in a while.
  15. I know what it means obviously but for the other readers, can you elaborate on what SG means in this context?
  16. I am super glad I waited….but I don’t know if that’s just rationalizing my decision or if that was actually the best choice. I do know this, I’ve knocked down 30-35 shots off my “handicap” which I don’t even know if one has a handicap when you never ever hit a drive on the (correct) fairway. My irons and putting would likely make me an 80s player bow but my drives are still pulling my score up 5-7 shots I bet. I only bought a package of ten lessons and my coach devoted 95% of time to finding my swing on irons/chips/putts and 5% on driver. Well, my game absolutely reflects that prioritization since we ran out of time. i also practiced the equivalent of what you smartly outlined. I have spent hours and hours on this new found hobby….obsession. Taking a break from lessons for a bit and just pounding balls (huh?) every other day for an hour or so. and yes, getting old sucks!! I’m in decent shape and have pulled a groin and strained a hamstring in last twelve months….after only pulling one muscle in 48 years of a quite active lifestyle. It’s one of the reasons I’ve started playing golf and giving up some other choices.
  17. @Bozo_Casanova we are on the same journey but I’m three months ahead and three years younger. Just finished my tenth of ten lessons and they’ve helped tremendously. I am no longer a hack and just a mediocre player. I just bought new clubs after my coach did a bit of a fitting. I wanted TaylorMade but after hitting various types of clubs, it became obvious that I was so much longer and more accurate with Mizuno 925s. I tried to pretend it was politics and not pay attention to the data in front of me but coach kept directing me back to the stats so I begrudgingly went with them and now I love them (after one whole round with them). I found no one talks to you about your swing. And like someone said, pick up a ball if putting group behind pace of play. No one cares about your score at all, people just care to not slow them down. Good luck to us newbs.
  18. We had burrata, pan de campo, beet salad, and a steak that were all A-players. the beef tartare dish (can’t remember the name they use) was a B. we only drank wine but their drinks looked great. This is my new date spot for sure.
  19. Credence is great. That is all.
  20. How is Memorial Park for beginner-ish players? I just started playing but am down 30 shots since i started a few months ago. Happy with progress since i started in April but happy in the way one is happy with someone on My 600-lb Life who lost 300 lbs…. Easy to lose 300 lbs when you are fat as shit just like it’s easy to drop 30 shots when you suck and shoot 130 first time out ( just cracked 98 at Sugarcreek). So still suck. I still have clubs gifted to me that were made in 1999 but now that I feel I’m committed to learning and playing this game, I’m going to buy new clubs in next month. I’ve take seven lessons and instructor finally told me my swing is far along to consider buying since swing is stabilizing a bit. Long way of saying I still hate slowing groups down so if Memorial Park is for like players in the 80s, I’ll continue playing at random places…but I live right by park so it would be nice to go play less than 5 minutes from my house rather than hodgepodge of places all over Houston I’ve played at that are 4-5x further.
  21. Sorry Mr Banks. Didn’t mean what I said
  22. Went to various parties where Elizabeth Banks was at pre-stardom. Any random UT bar in the late 90s had numerous better looking girls so it’s interesting to see what’s happened since mid-aughts with her.
  23. My daughter was 3rd grader on 3rd/4th grade league that was way more serious than I thought. Some parents acted like if their daughter was being scouted by UCONN. Even as serious as parents were, I did not see one purposeful pass the whole season so check your expectations. League was 100% pick and roll based and winning team had the better pg and defense. So yes to advice above about layups and defense. in this league, you could not double anyone whatsoever unless they were in paint and you couldn’t guard a girl in backcourt and no zone. Rules meant to allow some fluidity in game so I hated them at first but then grew to understand once I realized that without these rules, over/under would quite literally be 0.5. With these rules, over/under would be probably 40.
  24. Replaced a terrible light fixture with this one I made. Bought white oak and dug channels up top for the wiring and the six black pipes for the lights. This wood was so much harder to work with than regular Home Depot wood. Also pretty damn heavy so had to put it up with help of handyman. He had to hit the ceiling joists (?) exactly for large screws to go into. It was a process but was happy with his work.
