  1. Came across a story a couple of weeks ago about some people claiming to see 3 alligators in Lake Ray Hubbard.  As we were driving over the lake, I decided to tell the kids about it.

Wife pipes in, "Did they walk up here from the coast?"

  2. Anyone on here ever tried Kentucky Bourbon Ale?  Had it at a Red's game several years ago and it's, by far, my favorite beer.  If you go to their website, you can find place in DFW that sell it.  Only negative is that it's like $20 for a 4-pack.

Any love for Hutchins in McKinney/Frisco?  I love the all you can eat for $22.

Been to the one in McKinney 3 times since moving here over the summer.  Love it.  Granted, I haven't been to Cattleack or Pecan Lodge so the other posters on here know far more than I do.

  4. So as some may recall from the Realtor thread from Shaggy, my wife, kids, and I moved back to Dallas (Rowlett) this past summer.  The house we purchased had a near-perfect inspection.  One of the inspector's notes stated something about watering the foundation.  Assuming this mostly just meant during times of drought, I kind of ignored the recommendation.  Several months later - and a few cracks along the ceiling and walls - and here I am.

Quick note.  We do have a lifetime warranty on the foundation and had a guy from the company come by and take a look.  He said that there was nothing out of the ordinary per the cracks.  We've since painted over them.

Sorry for the tl;dr.  So my question is, what, exactly am I supposed to do as a homeowner in this area when it comes to watering the foundation?  In TN, this was never a suggestion or issue.  I did a couple of google searches and came across one suggestion (from a foundation company website) that instructed one to water the foundation 2 hours a day; five days a week.  That sounds a tad excessive.  But, again, I'm coming from a position of complete ignorance on the subject.

I was going to surround the house with "soaker hoses" as that seems to be an obvious step.  But, assuming I get them set up, how often do I water and for how long?

    Thanks in advance.

  5. Altered Carbon.  Very unmemorable.  For something so right up my alley (futuristic sci-fi), I honestly forgot that I invested 8-ish hours watching it a couple of months ago until mentioned above.  At least the hot, female detective has a couple of, uh, nice scenes.

Wild, Wild Love was pretty awesome.  Can't believe I'd never heard about any of the stuff that went on until seeing the doc.

  6. I get that bombing runs in zero g wouldn't work, but neither would lots of stuff in sci-fi.  I get the casino scene may have been too vast and expensive to cut from the final take.  Etc....

I do not, however, understand how anyone could have thought Leia Poppins was a good idea.  That was one of the dumbest things I've ever seen in my entire life.

  7. Gonna try to get my 11 year-old to watch The Lost Boys with me this weekend.  He's afraid of his own shadow so, good luck to me.

Time Bandits and The Dark Crystal gave me nightmares for weeks.

  8. I might be off by a year or two, but I candistinctly recall Tears for Fears blasting throughout the park as we excitedly hurried through the tunnel at the front of the park.

edit:  meant to add.  This would have been around ‘85.

Not trying to be an ass but didn’t Parker surrender to the white man in 1875?  Plus, isn’t one of his major criticisms that he basically ended up adopting European culture over his own later in life?

  10. Gosh dangit what am I doing wrong?  I'm usually pretty good at hooking these things up....

I've got a Smart TV with a sound bar/sub woofer.  The sound bar has input for a digital optical cable, HDMI, and USB.  Problem is, I don't have (or see) an output from my tv for the digital optical cable.  I am currently running the digital optical cable from my DirectTV box to the sound bar which is fine for regular tv but doesn't help if I'm using an of the tv's smart functions - Netflix, YouTube, etc..

How or what would I use to get audio from the tv to the sound bar?  I plugged an HDMI cable from the tv to the sound bar.  I got a msg on the tv screen that it was switching to a different audio output but I never got sound.

  11. Not trying to be sexist or anything but, why does it seem as if the females never look for an idol?  I think I recall Pavarti looking for one at some point; maybe Andrea Boehlke.  But, I honestly don't recall very many women ever taking the time to look for an idol.

I was just starting at UT when the World Cup was in Dallas. Not getting to attend a match here is one regret I have. I would've loved to have been at the Germany/South Korea 3-2 match.  I was hoping to get a chance to make good on that missed opportunity. Not sure I want to go to a game at shitty JerryWorld.

Even worse.  I was home for the summer from UT.  I didn't even think to attend a game as back then I didn't really care about or know much about soccer.  I do recall watching a couple of games - literally - 2 miles away from the Cotton Bowl at a sports bar.  Today, I'd attend absolutely any World Cup local matchup.

  13. Not Dragon's Tail.  The really high one in the middle that had three slides.  I think 2 required inner tubes.  One of the slides was pitch-dark - it may have been called the "Black Hole".  Anyway, I recall not being too fond of making the climb up the stairs because the damn thing swayed in the wind.

Y'all remember the inner tube ride on the far side of the park?  It was awesome.  You'd go down in steps, spend some time in a pool, then a life guard would push you on your way.  The finale was a very large and wide concrete drop.

  14. I only have a couple of memories of Valley VIew as we were regular Prestonwood or Richardson Square mall-goers.  Got my first pair of black Reeboks at Valley View.  Best friend and I would eat at El Fenix @ Valley View, whenever his dad would give us an extra $20 to get out of his hair.
