Can't UTIMCO just say no? I guess it's "their" money, but aren't there limitations on how PUF/AUF monies are spent?

Yes, the State gave UTIMCO control over aggy’s portion of the PUF/AUF because they regularly fucked up so much with the State’s money.

I believe it was $23mil from ESPN and $9mil from FOX. I’ll be sitting in the Denver airport later today, will see if I can find a source.

Didn’t take long, but I was off on the breakdown.

Doing some back of the envelope math, that’s around $240 million per year paid out by ESPN, or around $20 million per school, with Fox paying $140 million per year, or roughly $11.7 million per school. This means that even if the Big 12 expands with Power Five members, only the roughly two-thirds of the annual media rights value paid by ESPN would increase, with Fox not budging on their chunk.

This original data for this analysis came from Sports Business Journal

Is Fox allowed to program gymnastics or figure skating, instead of B12 football, if they want?

It’s not a contractual dedicated or exclusive afternoon slot. They can put on figure skating, NASCAR, or Big Ten volleyball if they want but if they want a college football game it’s either the Big 12 (which they pay $9mil/yr per school) or the MWC (which they pay $2mil/yr per school).

The big chance to move traffic out of the city was SH-130, and they screwed up that opportunity.  They should have made that the new IH-35 and made it faster and cheaper for trucks to go around rather than through Austin.  We are spending billions on Project Connect but we never came up with the billion or so ten years ago to re-route Mopac freight east of Austin and re-purpose the rail as regional transit from Round Rock to San Antonio.

TxDot is not closing part of the national highway system and turning it into an "urban boulevard".  Good riddance to the upper deck.  Hopefully they find a way to pay for the caps.

Bingo, if you’ve driven on I35 in the last decade you know they’ve been expanding the fucking highway from Laredo to Denton. It’s one of the busiest highways in the country which all bottlenecks in downtown Austin. Billions or dollars in state and federal money is not going to go to waste for some idealistic pie in the sky vision.

The 130 was the opportunity of a lifetime but the City and CTRMA was too stupid or too corrupt to see it. They’ve had years to see this coming, the highway literally North and South of downtown have been expanded or are expanding. The time to fight this was YEARS ago, now they’re just wasting effort.

I call 100% bullshit, on them “adding” a 4th lane. Most of that road already had 4 lanes save a 2 mile stretch between Braker and Anderson Mill, but they didn’t build anything they just restriped the mother fucking lanes. Not only that but they restriped the lanes in places where it has 4 lanes already and took road away from the free lanes. These fuckers absolutely will piss on your leg and tell you it’s raining and nobody ever fucking calls them on it.

Look, these beauties aren't free. You may not recognize them from this picture which appears to show them just after installation. The ones you're probably used to seeing are black and damaged from UPS trucks running over them.

If you're really lucky, you get the posts and the speed bumps that fuck up your car like these along Shoal Creek.

    Mobility bond funds at work!

Seriously these things are stupid as fuck. They narrow the roads hundreds of cars take an hour for fucking weekend road warriors. I never see anyone fucking using these mother fucking bike lanes during rush hour.

Multiple road I frequent have had the ability to right turn completely fucked up leading to more congestion and even more dangerous traffic situations for these fucking bike pylons.

Such a great “mobility” project. I hope anyone who supported these gets an infected hemorrhoid that pops while riding their ten speed.

Texas has been paid for the 2022/2023 schoolyear.  The B12 allotment from the current year won't quite cover the fees owed by Texas.  So Texas will indeed have to write a check for the rest, and so could theoretically stiff the B12 for the difference.

In reality that won't happen, it's not something an institution with integrity would ever do.

That the B12 has zero integrity is a problem, but it won't be our problem after this schoolyear.

Incorrect, we are not paying them a penny. Texas/OU “gave up” revenue from 2024 (when we will not be playing in this conference) and agreed to take the same revenue hair cut as the other 8 for the addition of the 4 noobs. Other than that we paid $0 to leave.

The game times for Texas/TCU and Miami/FSU are also dependent on the SEC as they are waiting to get an answer for their 6-day decisions.

I don’t think that is correct.

The SEC’s spot are set, they just don’t know which game goes where:

    230 CBS (99% chance it’s UGA/OleMiss)

6 ESPN (likely TN/Mizzou but could be UF/LSU)

730 SECN (likely UF/LSU but could be TN/Mizzou)

    11 ESPN is Bama/UK

    630 ESPN2 is MSU/aggy

    11 SECN is Vandy/SC

    3 SECN is Aub/Ark

So if you’re saying ESPN is strategically waiting for CBS to state the obvious then maybe you’re right, but I don’t see how it makes a big difference here.

    I’m predicting it’s 230 by the way.

Yeah you’re right. I was looking at my preferred schedule site (http://www.lsufootball.net/tvschedule.htm) (as it’s Central time) and they haven’t updated

The guys at FBschedules.com update their stuff fairly quickly.

    https://fbschedules.com/college-football-tv-schedule/

It’s between our game and Miami/FSU for the 230/prime spot on ABC. 230 seems most likely based on the competition.

As I understand it, as of this moment, there has been no announcement as to the primetime night game by Fox, FS1, ABC or ESPN so…I can still dare to dream of a night game

Look at post #3 many of those have been announced. WVU/Oklahoma is FOX Prime and Cincy/UH is FS1 Prime and the SEC#2 game (likely TN/Mizzou as UGA/Ole Miss has to be #1) game is ESPN Prime.

It's going to be so goddamn hilarious when the 5 people who post 20 times a day in this thread are making the same complaints about the SEC refs next year.

I'm sure there will be some other grand conspiracy as to why Texas just "gets screwed" all the time in SECSECSEC. Can't wait to find out what it is.

    popcorn.gif

Would you like to make a bet that Texas will once again be 14 out of 14 next year in penalty yards? Hell I’ll spot you the 2 additions and give you 14 out of 16.

Or would you rather bet that Texas has 50% fewer penalty yards than the conference mean next year? (Big 12 avg=42.2 yrd/gm; Texas is 21.2 yrd/gm)

I’ll happily bet you $10k. I’ll send it over to immamac if you would do the same, I’ll even donate my winnings to the NIL fund?

You care to put your money where your mouth is?

Why did Alabama not complain about playing Tennessee each year cross division at a time when Tennessee was a regular contender?

Alabama wanted to play Auburn, Tennessee, and Mississippi State every year, but with Tennessee having a horrible decade that wasn’t a balanced schedule so they drop MSU and subbed in LSU which just so happens to have been the biggest game over the last decade. Saban was pissed that they were the only team playing 3 teams that have won BCS/CFP titles.

Part of what messes with the model is that aggy is in the SEC’s top 8 conferences winning percentage while Tennessee is not so that messes with it when you look at it like Saban does but overall Tennessee has been dog shit for a decade so they shouldn’t get credit for them.

Regardless he’s changed his tuned on it, which is great for the conference. Here’s what he said this week about LSU (and said something similar about TN this year as well):

"I think this is a great game that has tremendous fan interest,” Saban said on Wednesday's SEC teleconference. “It's been a great game for however long I've been here. They've got a great atmosphere, and we've got a great atmosphere at our stadium. Both fan bases look forward to the game. I think as many of these fan-interest, rivalry games, whatever you want to call them, that we can keep over time is beneficial to the conference and beneficial to the players who play the game."

One thing is vastly different, of course: CBS does not receive the first pick of games each week but is instead part of a draft with Fox and NBC in a three-network split of Big Ten rights. Industry experts believe that CBS will pay about $350 million annually for a secondary Big Ten game.

That is believed to be less than what ESPN/ABC is paying for the top SEC game. It leaves some within the media rights industry flabbergasted.

“That was the surprising thing to everyone in the business,” said one former network executive who spoke to Yahoo Sports under condition of anonymity. “They walked on 300 with the SEC and a better game pick and then paid 350 for a less preferential pick.”

Multiple sources within the SEC who had knowledge of the negotiations believe that the league would have likely renewed its deal with CBS for such a price, though there were other extenuating circumstances, such as flexibility and control of kickoff times.

“CBS obviously had the financials to do it. They did it with the Big Ten,” said another TV insider. “They could have done it. They went their own way.”

Maybe there is more to the story, said one television industry source. CBS stands to earn more revenue on the deal with the Big Ten, he said, because the network has more owned and operated stations in that league’s footprint, such as Chicago, Detroit and Minneapolis.

    Finally an explanation.
