Is becoming a massive piece of shit a typical side effect of a stroke?

Personalities can definitely change after a stroke. My dad became much more laid back and less grumpy after he had a stroke. My FIL became much more emotional where he tears up at the drop of a hat when he was completely stoic prior.

All-day, bar-restaurant format with separate bar menu sounds like LeRoy & Lewis.

A little more accurately, it sounds like he’s copying the playbook of what John Lewis is doing in South Carolina. Parlaying his experience at La into an all-day venture outside of Texas.

People are getting shot in food lines in Gaza and official US policy supports this genocide with empty promises of Trump receiving stolen land.

Ukraine and Russia have escalated bombings with no end in sight despite the US reversal of help for Ukraine by pulling resources and future support

The dollar is tanking and treasury bonds are no longer a safe investment and businesses can’t even square a balance sheet bc they don’t know what tweet is going to cause millions in taxes

The US military was unleashed on protesters against the will of all local and state government officials

The constitution no longer guarantees due process for those accused of being in this country illegally and further people are being sent to concentration camps in foreign countries for punishment

The president gave a pardon in exchange for $11M. Foreign countries openly pay personal bribes to receive favorable defense contracts. The corruption is endless and Congress refuses to act as a coequal branch

Musk created a real deep state embedded within key agencies that have the power to turn off approved funding for universities or companies or non profits they don’t like and defy court orders when they lose

A Trump supporter assassinated politicians and Trump fuels the fire by shit talking the MN governor

It’s been five months. I honestly don’t see how this country survives 4 years

Well, when you put it like that.

I talked to a woman of dating age and asked her what it was like.  She said guys are expecting anal on the 3rd date these days.

How many dates does it normally take for her to give it up?

Serious note: everyone should check out a cancer policy if their employer offers one, or get one if they don’t.

My HR recommended I got it - and wouldn’t you know three months after paying my $15 a month I got cancer. Once I sent them proof of my tumor, they sent me a cash payment of $11,000 - and paid 20% cash of the cost of each of my on-going MRIs and CTs.

Not a bad bang for your buck.  It was one stressor I did not have to have as I made my co-pays and airfare and hotel visits to MDA.   It is so damn cheap that if you ever join the club, that valuable assist makes dealing with it a hell of a lot easier financially.

Silly you for buying the cancer policy. It gave you cancer.

I've learned in my 50 plus years on earth that doctors can be every bit as dumb as lawyers.

Some of the smartest, most brilliant people I know and have had the privilege of working with during my career have been physicians. Some of the dumbest, most frustrating people I know are physicians. It’s a bell curve in every profession.

That fuckhead Bevo told me flat-out a few months ago that he'd never treat me as a patient. I don't recall what instigated it, but the only times I've ever really clashed with him are in the DT "Israel vs. the world" and the "LA on fire" threads.

    He’s doing you a favor.

Doctors are every bit as likely to think in their own best interests as judges, attorneys, etc.... Not at a VA hospital, but I am friends with a guy here in Austin whose wife had a miscarriage leading to life threatening complications for his wife, and my buddy seemed confident that it wouldn't have been an issue prior to the state's abortion ban. I didnt dig into the details with him, but I got the sense he felt the doctors could have done more for his wife and would have done more for his wife in previous years. Doctors and certainly the administrators of the hospitals they work for aren't immune to legal pressures, sadly.  They will cover their ass with the best of them.

This. I think most people would be astounded at the level of involvement of attorneys in setting clinical guidelines in hospitals.

Not unexpected but I had to shake my head at TexAgs thread on this. On their page 1 and 2, they're debating how that this tragedy is a result of the politician victims voting against some recent democrat bills related to protecting abortion rights in MN. (I have zero idea if this is accurate or not.) And that the perp must be a deranged lib who is upset at their betrayal of Dem ideals.

Now on the last page, they're upset that libs wants to politicize this issue by pointing out that the perp is a MAGA Trump supporter.

You didn’t have to go all the way to texags to find that. You could’ve just clicked on the DT thread and seen the same shit.

I didn't get married until my late 20s. High school was rough, college better, and then things kept improving, similar to your arc.

One thing that is weird to me, and this could obviously be anecdotal/recency bias, but it seems like a lot of younger guys have problems making friends with girls. Just normal friends - co-workers, classmates, etc.  For all of the joking in this thread about seeing women (or men) as hook-up objects, some younger people seem to have a problem with chit-chatting the opposite gender in a completely platonic way.

I had this conversation/lecture/TED Talk with a early-20s cousin a few years ago at a family reunion.  He had not brought his girlfriend to the reunion because she had suddenly become his ex-girlfriend and he was kind of complaining about it.  I basically said, "don't you have a number of female friends you could call up and get somebody to go out/run around with you for this kind of stuff?" and he looked at me like I was speaking in tongues. Like it didn't occur to him to have a number of platonic female friends.

To go back to your point about it being easier to hook up with other people now than at any point in history, back in the 90s, I found making friends with a lot of women a great way to well, meet more women. My places of work were usually sausage fests and/or the women were married, so I'd make friends with the married women, make friends with female neighbors at apartment complexes, etc., and just by acting like a normal, decent person, you will stumble across a female friend who loves to play matchmaker. At the very least, you'd get invited to parties, dinners, etc. where you'd meet more women.

Here in 2025, it's even better - just be a decent person, make a bunch of female friends, be Facebook friends with them, don't post batshit conspiracy theories or misogynistic bullshit on your FB profile and feed, post nice comments/responses, etc. and you are exposed to a whole shitload of women of all ages and needs/wants.

Youth really is wasted on the young.

If I somehow ever end up divorced, I will be using the hell out of these tools to easily find my next ex-wife.

I think this is a really good point. I’ve always had a number of good female friends and in my dating years it served me well. It made women easily approachable because I knew how to talk to and relate to them without being a complete creep. To this date, I count several women as close friends and I appreciate their counsel and advice on certain things from the female perspective. I’m also thankful to have a wife that isn’t jealous or threatened by those relationships.
