Free airfare is a plus as well.

Lol. Viking’s marketing team deserves a raise. My parents tout this as well as all the “free” upgrades they get. Separately, my dad and FIL have both uttered the phrase “It’s almost like they’re paying us to go!” Viking is great at getting repeat customers to open up their wallets.

Not sure what your wife's tolerance for the cold is, but going in the winter during the Christmas Markets could be cool.

Wife and I were in Germany a couple of years ago in between Thanksgiving and Christmas and the Christmas markets were a highlight. The added bonus is that the American tourists aren’t as plentiful at that time of year.

Bump. We have started planning a Germany trip for end of May 2026 and while doing so I realized that on our bucket list was to do a European river cruise. Over the years, when I researched it, Germany waterways seemed the best fit for us. We've already seen a lot of other parts of Europe like France, Italy, Mediterranean, etc.

But, we aren't cruise people.  The thought of taking an ocean cruise with hordes of people drinking themselves to death and squeezing their overweight bodies into a top deck swimming pool, while a DJ blabs on and plays shitty music makes us want to vomit.  Hence the thought that a calmer river cruise might be okay.

I've been all over Germany many times. My wife hasn't seen any of Germany. So, I'm trying to decide between carving off a week for a river cruise, and a week to hit other places in Germany, Czech, and/or Austria? Thoughts on doing the river cruise or not?

How old are you? My parents love Viking and go on several a year. From the descriptions they have given over the years, it sounds like the service is exceptional and Viking does a fantastic job providing a luxury experience. That said, they are in their late 70’s and say they’re usually about the median age on the boat.

Jason Segel’s dad confirmed. If you like the show so much, start a thread and encourage people to watch it. The adults are trying to talk SNL.

    Eat a dick, Pam.

3/4 of the students at Arkansas are from Texas. As such, Fayetteville is very Texan friendly in my experience. My daughter goes to school there.

There whole area hits above its weight with quality of restaurants. On the downside, there are no nice hotels that I’m aware of. We always end up at the Hyatt Place (which is decent as far as that chain goes).

Geraldi’s is probably my favorite place to eat. Right by campus and legit Italian. Atlas is a good high end spot downtown. Giusinger Cocktail Club is a great cocktail bar on the main square. Buttered Biscuit is a good breakfast. Wood Stone pizza is a nice local pizza chain.

I could easily retire up there. Prices are reasonable and it is beautiful. We need nonstop flights from Austin.

Not in Fayetteville, but the 21c Hotel in Bentonville is nice and it’s a nice walk from there to Crystal Bridges.

I live in DFW and had a work meeting come up in Houston at 9 AM tomorrow. I elected to drive rather than fly because I'll need to get to a specific office in Houston and dont want to Uber to and from, especially from as I dont know when the meeting will end. I want my own car while there.

The high speed train wont take you to the specific place you need to go in the respective cities. You will have to figure out transportation when you arrive making many people like myself just continue to take a personal car.

Counterpoint: I despise driving on 45. Give me a HSR option and I’ll take it every single time. Uber can take care of the final mile transportation. To me, time spent staring at a windshield is completely wasted time.

Top of the morning lads!  Let's get this going.

Must have been a pretty massive bender last night to post that at the crack of 11a.

UTD got a huge boost early on from TI and TI founders, who wanted a school to work-study TI employees.  They offered to do the same for SMU, but SMU declined, seeing itself as a liberal arts and business school.  So its beginnings were different from most of the other UT "satellite" schools.

Yeah, I fund an endowed scholarship with my name on it at UTD. I’m well aware of its history.

While the UT system isn't up to UC standards, there are a few options where a good education is possible.  UT-Arlington, UT-Dallas, and UT-San Antonio all have their good points.

UTD is on a different plane than Arlington and San Antonio. If the state had any sense, it would be plowing a whole lot more money into that campus, but absent that, what they’ve done on that campus in the last 20 years is pretty remarkable.

i mean it's pretty fucking obvious that many if not most of these 'federal agents' are straight off the streets - makeshift uniforms, personal vehicles, their physical fitness, the way they carry themselves, the language they're using, the trigger-happy reactions, etc etc etc... not like actual existing LEOs are that much better, but these are so clearly untrained thugs straight off the street. just incredible.

I understand the point you’re making here, but you’re giving “actual existing LEOs” too much credit. Have you not witnessed what the law enforcement community has devolved into over the past few decades? It’s just a bunch of fat pigs in tacticool gear.
