  1. I will go to my grave not understanding how self-proclaimed followers of Christ have so vehemently and passionately thrown their support behind such a reprehensible and objectively un-Christ-like man. I still can't get over it.
  2. Tens of millions. I don't know exactly the moment that Fox went from being the right-leaning network in the 90's to the modern American version of "Pravda" that routinely misrepresents photos (using those of bigger or smaller gatherings as it suits their narrative, editing Trump out of their Epstein pics) and pushes false and weaponized stories with Russian origins (Seth Rich). I actually watch it pretty often - though I'll admit I can only take it in 10-minute doses without my head exploding from the intellectual dishonesty. One of the narratives I've noticed most in the past week or so is "mob." Everyone they disagree with is a "mob." BLM protestors are a lawless "mob." This morning they were discussing Trump's proposed Garden of Heroes and repeatedly warned their viewers not to give in to the "angry mob" that wants to tear down history and will never be satisfied. The other talking points I see repeated every few minutes this week are 1) Biden is addled, and 2) Biden is a tool of the "radical left," which is kind of hilarious (can you imagine how that must be going over with Warren, Yang, or Sanders?). All of the Fox talking points reinforce either A) "Both sides!" (e.g. Trump slurs his words, but so does Biden), or B) your way of life is under threat from "the left." It's a 24-hour cyanide pill for this democracy.
  3. I've been aware of Dershowitz as a pundit and a professor since I was a teenager. But I've never seen him actually "lawyer" until the televised (Ukraine) impeachment hearings, where I found him to be laughably incompetent. And after watching about 10 minutes of that, I decided that law was pretty much like every other field - where the people who are the faces and purported experts of the field are generally just self-promoting buffoons, and not at all the cream of the profession.
  4. My wife is tired of hearing me say this. Any other leader of a free world country who did exactly that would have been impeached/removed from office by the end of that day. But in America, it was out of the news cycle in 24 hours... and yet my conservative friends will continue to tell each other how the media is unfair to them.
  5. My 2- car garage is secure and reasonably well-sealed/insulated (ceiling and walls finished just like the house). I’m considering putting in a dehumidifier of some kind. Looks like I can get a decent-sized (non-commercial) one for $300. That would be pretty simple: drill a drain hole through one wall and plug it in. Option 2 is a very small mini-split, which I’d guess would be well over $2k (maybe cost-prohibitive) once installed. Back story is that I inherited a number of things that I don’t really have space for — some heirloom furniture, my late father’s library, etc. — and it needs a place to live for a couple years, after which I have siblings who will then be in position to take it (right now they can’t). Anyone with personal experience trying to dehumidify a storage shed/garage without spending $$$?
  6. Motto worthy.
  7. Fucking relentless, isn’t it?
  8. Well, he's already stood on the podium and smiled while an all-white crowd at a rally chanted "Send them back!" about four black and brown Americans. And collectively, the entire Republican Party - all of them - said NOT. A. SINGLE. FUCKING. WORD. I mean, it seems to me that it would take a single molecule of decency, a single neuron in favor of dignity, morality, and justice, for JUST ONE Republican to step up the mic and say, "This is wrong, and I do not support or condone it." And yet...
  9. Every stupid word Sammy Hagar ever penned... and subsequently acted out line by line in his retard videos. It’s like eating sonic lead paint.
  10. Gentlemen, for your consideration, the most tasteless guitar I've ever seen. You can tell from the detailed description that the designer wasn't going for ironically ugly. This person was sincere, and his crime against humanity can be yours for $3599 plus shipping:
  11. Your comment made me look it up. He’s four years younger than Jagger.
  12. For like a month, the Netflix algorithm is fucking determined to make me watch the Hammond thing... it automatically starts streaming it at the end of anything I put on. It seems like a movie that if you've seen the trailer, you can just fill in the blanks of what you it's about.
  13. Slow Burn (podcast) season 4 is about Duke. First episode is out.
  14. Oh, and I think Dorie Miller was from Waco, right? Seems close enough to Killeen to make a worthy and appropriate namesake.
  15. I was born in the south, grew up in the south, and I am "of" the south. From early childhood, I heard the heritage/history arguments in favor of the Confederate flag. But lately it occurs to me that this country isn't going to get to where it needs to be until the average southern man sees the stars and bars along the same lines as he sees Nazi flags. They're symbols of people who fought in favor of genocide, slavery, and murder. I don't think there's much of a distinction between the systems they represent. I'm kind of shocked that NASCAR (!!) would take such a step.... but it gives me hope.
  16. I have this Empress pedal. It's a bit over-the-top - lots of knobs, and it can be hard to see what you're doing when it's down on the floor. But will get you where you want to go (Miles, I don't think it could trick you into mistaking a humbucker for single coil or vice versa ... just too many other things in play, like the attack of the note, the sustain, clarity, etc.). I think I mentioned this elsewhere... I have a little TwoRock combo amp, and I couldn't be more impressed with their engineering. They just got soooo many things right: easily-adjustable input impedance, a tube reverb with separate send/return controls, and an insanely useful EQ section that lets you extend the lows by pulling the bass knob, push the dirt in the mids by pulling the mid knob, and add presence and top end by pulling the treble knob. That little TwoRock has just spoiled the shit out of me when it comes to EQ on a guitar amp. So now when I use a different amp, I feel like I struggle to get it dialed in like I want. That's what lead me to the Empress (they make really cool shit, IMO). It's probably a lot better for a studio setting than a live rig.
  17. Of all the Trump tweets that are so fucking deranged that I think, "That's a parody.... right?" I mean... "could be a set up?" Are you fucking kidding me? My eyes tell me that he was a pretty feeble man who lacked the balance/reflexes to protect himself, and thus bounced his head off the cement like a fucking ripe cantaloup. But you're telling me he was dangerous Antifa who was disabling police communications? JFC. Fuck everyone who supports this deranged fascist clown.
  18. In on page 1.
  19. I don't know why, but when salespeople gesture to another house on my block and reference their owners by first name, it makes me furious... I think it's because I feel disrespected and insulted that they come at me with such weak bullshit.

  21. I know it's tiresome, but every day you can just marvel, "What would white evangelicals say if Obama had __________?" You can finish that sentence in thousands of ways. "...paid off a pornstar after cheating on his third wife who was home with their baby?" "...been caught on a hot mic bragging about grabbing women's pussies?" "...welcomed and cooperated with Russian efforts to subvert an American election?" In today's episode, let's ask, "What would white evangelicals say if Obama had publicly rejected the foundational New Testament idea of repentance and redemption?"
  22. I go to a lot of live music, but there are close to zero artists who I'd go see under those circumstances.
  23. "Casting JonBenet" is bizarre, and unlike any movie I've ever seen. A community theater in Boulder has a casting call for a play about Jon Benet. Then the usual assortment of drama people (including several self-absorbed whackadoos) who want to be in the production show up and try out for each role. These screen tests are filmed for a documentary. Each actor 1) reads lines from the script, 2) offers their own theories on the murder and on the Ramsey family dynamics, and 3) tells about their own psychological traumas, and how those traumas give them insight into the case. Five minutes in, you'll think, "I'm not watching this shit." But then you will. And you'll soon be left to wonder WTF just happened. I'm not sure if I'm telling you to watch it or warning you away.

I just listened to "Five Leaves Left" in its entirety, which I haven't done in a couple decades. I forgot how great it is.
