  1. Yep, and the Gris Gris chef, Eric Cook, is a great dude. Going through hell with the city on his other restaurant in the FQ right now so definitely go support him.
  2. San Francisco is 75% SFH and the BoS is fighting like hell to keep it that way. That’s why it’s the most expensive city in the US.
  3. You realize most of those places are bastions of NIMBYism that have had very little development for decades and the motivating force for initiatives like HOME, right?
  4. Man I just can’t muster up the courage to go back after the hep c outbreak.
  5. To be fair, old people are technically not the future of anything.
  6. Yeah, that place has changed a ton over the last decade. 6-7 years ago Polly brought in the Boucherie folks to do the food, and she just retired and sold to the Blue Oak BBQ folks last year. Beer list has gone downhill but the heyday of the beer bar was a decade ago anyways, still a LGD and Mardi Gras morning staple.
  7. They got arrested and their cars towed, impressive effort but APEC was the wrong time to fuck around.
  8. Link’s other spots, Herbsaint and Gianna. La Boca is an institution for steaks. Also, hear me out: Emeril’s. His son took over last year and put in place a tasting menu with the goal turning into a Michelin-level destination. They just reopened after a full renovation. Haven’t been and don’t know anyone who has, but I’m curious.
  9. Yes, I was able to go back in December and it was fantastic. Full disclosure, the owners are friends of ours and this is a shameless plug. But, they just made the NYT’s Top 50 Restaurants and Bon Appetit’s Best New Restaurants lists, so they are doing something right.
  10. What’s the rent/own ratio in the area? In HCOL areas on the west coast it much, much cheaper to rent. I only say that because inventory is shit right now so unless you’re seeing stuff you really like it may be better to wait.
  11. Actually New Orleans is where all the medical centers are located and what is likely the driver for the college degree statistic (Ochsner, Tulane, LSU). There city and state have worked to build out a new medical center post-K as well. Obviously lots of these folks are temporary medical students/residents. Also, Orleans parish has gotten relatively expensive over the past decade, so naturally you’re going to see lower income (and less educated) residents displaced. Edit: NO is also a university town (Tulane, UNO, Loyola, Xavier, Dillard, etc) so that drives the stat as well.
  12. I don’t disagree, but capping appreciation/resale price is a fundamental element of the sustainability of these programs. They are not meant to subsidize home ownership (why not just directly do so?) but rather to provide would-be lifelong renters with the opportunity to put what would be rent money into equity, along with fixed payments and housing security. Of course the problem that arises is that these programs are intended for long term residents, and people who try to sell after a few years are often miffed they don’t get the full benefit of market ownership.
