  1. Shaya was canceled years ago and Revolution is irrelevant. Get a rez for Saint Germain, the most ambitious restaurant in the city, or Saffron or Mamou at the bar. Or if you want to go old school, Clancy’s at the bar. Make friends with Garth. Peche at the bar remains fantastic. Nowadays that is my rotation when I go home. Have only been to Dakar in his earlier, much more casual iterations but really enjoyed it.
  2. Hand it out in downtown San Francisco and other open air drug markets throughout the country. The overdose problem has been insane.
  3. Can confirm (and it was well more than 50).
  4. He had another charge outstanding in Tracy. https://sfstandard.com/2024/09/04/ricky-pearsall-shooting-juvenile-court/
  5. Yes, the shooter is a 17 year old kid from Tracy who drove to the city to gang bang. SFPD was literally feet away and immediately apprehended him. I walk through that intersection to work every day. Lots of things one can say about the city but this was just random. Can we just shit on the Central Valley instead?
  6. There is a corporate entity which, IIRC, makes money from licensing gyms and education. But Greg Glassman got canceled after an “All Lives Matter” rant four years ago and I’m surprised that it’s still around.
  7. The productive conversations:
  8. I mean, did it? We have lived in Russian Hill for over a decade. We are raising a kid here - we’re all in! I go to work in the FiDi five days a week and I would say there has been a stasis for the past two years since reopening. But Fisherman’s Wharf? It’s become cool. Ghirardelli has had a revamp. SF Brewing is where we go for Texas Exes, Palette is great for dumplings, and Square Pie Guys opened an awesome family friendly spot. Also, Broad Street Oyster just opened their second spot out of LA. Honestly, the Wharf is becoming kind of cool for locals.
  9. GG, imo.
  10. This guy Missions. Will have to head down to St Mary’s soon, live on north side of town so don’t make it down there often. Sorry, I swear the weather was nice until today.
  11. That’s a solid list. Connecticut Yankee and Bloom’s are near Parkside. Mission Rock Resort if you want to a place to eat with a view.
  12. 😳 well anyways here’s some extremely unimpressive Bouchard and Dauvissat to follow that up.
  13. I don’t think there will be any 2 stars. That’s the realm of haute cuisine tasting menus, and those places don’t exist outside of places Michelin already review because the economics don’t make any sense. But I’m sure places will quickly pop up to chase stars.
  14. The Tenderloin is ground zero for it. It’s just a mystery why the city made it’s tourist hub like five blocks away.
  15. Tasting notes plz?
  16. Yeah was going to California is not a retirement destination for most because of the cost, but if I had $2.5M to spend and wanted access to a city and outdoors I’d be thinking something like Coronado or Sausalito.
  17. It’s an uptown institution and lots of chefs have made their names there, but imo it just hadn’t retained its relevance in recent years. Some customers bought it last fall so looking forward to seeing what they do. What does not get enough pub is Zasu, opened up in Mid-City a few years ago by one of Gautreau’s best chefs in recent memory, Sue Zemanick.
  18. I don’t think Nina Compton has had much focus on CL in years. Think she spends most of her time at BABs and stupid ventures like that NFT cocktail club. Anyway, congrats to Dakar for James Beard best new restaurant, great guy and story. No surprise that Chris Hannah got another one too.
  19. I mean, you’re viewing it from the vantage point of one of the best deals in the country in terms of affordability, space, schools, etc. California’s median home price just broke $900k. You’re right, it’s not at all comparable but people deal with it (or move to Texas!).
  20. It’s quite mind-boggling, and I say this as someone who actually made the move. A lot of it is just how cheap Texas is relative to the rest of the country, but I’ve been here a decade now and the cost still blows my mind (particularly the RWC area). edit: check out r/BayAreaRealEstate, weirdest fucking sub on that site.
  21. The main reasons are (1) local zoning regulations that have obstructed growth for decades followed by (2) periodic market downturns over that period that have adversely affected the economics of home building. Corporate investment is a symptom of supply shortage, not a cause. It is literally the investment thesis of these ventures. And on a national scale, corporate investment is irrelevant-something like 3% of homes. As I mentioned, it is certainly a major factor in some markets (metro Atlanta has been about 25% of purchases over the last few years IIRC), but in the Bay Area where I live - ground zero of the housing crisis - it is basically nonexistent.
