SMU has a soccer team instead of baseball for whatever reason. And a good one at that. The B12 obviously doesn't even have men's soccer.

ISU, Wisconsin, Colorado and Syracuse are the four "P5" schools without baseball.

    Blame title 9.

Oh, I'm well aware.  I drive by the SMU Soccer practice field ever day.

They also have lacrosse and equestrian.

    But...

I'm not getting hung up on terminology. I'm responding to the idea that there is some sort of significant demarcation between TCU and SMU that hasn't already existed since TCU joined the B12.

SMU will actually be better off with the expanded CFP than they were.

I'm sure this will be an unpopular opinion, but I don't think you should be in the P5 (or whatever club we want to call it) if you don't have a baseball team.  Heck, you could even talk me into the idea that a school shouldn't be D1 without a baseball team.

I'm ready for your slings and arrows now.

If you relegate schools like the bulk of the Big 12 schools, their fans will just lose interest in college football, and ratings will drop.

I think the TV networks think if they relegate the Pokes, those fans will all just watch OU.  That’s not going to happen.  Same with us and Iowa.  I watch Iowa games all the time, because they’re our rival, and we play them every year.  Take ISU out of the equation completely, and I’m only watching an Iowa game if it’s some kind of social gathering.

You can pretty safely extrapolate that to any other fanbase.

And yes, what has always pissed us off is watching our neighbors get a free pass because their overlords were just nice about it.

So much this. It amazes me there are “college football fans” on this thread who have absolutely no clue what makes college football distinct from the NFL, and are endorsing eliminating that distinction.

if it’s true this is what the networks want, I predict it will backfire on them horrendously. They want to take away what makes college football such a unique market.

This is a big NO. There are too many teams on that list that don't belong in the show. Consolidation is happening. Its great for the schools surviving it and devastation for the left behind. I think we're headed toward three 20 team conferences. We're certainly not headed for a 28 team conference. Here are the 10 bottom feeders in your list, you can keep two. CAL, SDSU, BU, UH, CINCY, BC, CUSE, WAKE, DUKE, GT & UCF.

Nearly all of them are better contributors than Rutgers and Vanderbilt.  I would also suggest some of them are better than Illinois, Indiana, Purdue, Maryland, Mississippi State, etc.

Also, we have a two-game losing streak vs Cal, it will be sad if they dissolve with eternal scoreboard on us.

I didn't think that was possible, so I checked your work.  Color me shocked...had no idea.

But even more surprising to me was the fact you've only played three times total, the first time in 2011.  I just assumed you all would've had played them more than that in all those year previous.

EDIT:  Nevermind.  I think the UT Athletics website wasn't including anything pre-2000 in their online record.

Glad someone is out there trying to spread the truth that Tech has a good amount of conference realignment blood on its hands but this is the college football news equivalent of the Navy pilot testifying under oath to congress that we got the aliens...and there is so much else going on in the world (Pac 12 getting destroyed in a day on Friday) that no one is gonna notice...

The Cover 3 guys pointed out the current CFP contract is only for 2 years. They’re confident the 6 auto bids will go away, and for good reason.

The AAC and MWC champions getting a bye/home game over Big 12, SEC, Big Ten, and ACC schools is some bullshit. But hey, they all signed the contract. That said UAB hosting Bama would be funny.

SMU or UTSA hosting Texas, not so funny.

Oh contraire…that would be fucking hilarious.
