  1. Late to the table top party but my daughter (no pics) and I built a round table top to be fitted to a cable spool for a table in her apartment last summer.  We used 1x red oak from Home Depot with a AC plywood base.  We glued up the boards two or three at a time making sure we got good edge joints and that everything was flat.  Used a bunch of cheap bar clamps from Harbor Freight (50") for the last glue up.  Used the #5 plane on a few high spots and then the RO sander to knock it down smooth.   Built a few quick stools out of 2x12 YP to go with it.

Since we don't have a dedicated Boy Scout thread, I'll post here.  At last night's Court of Honor, it was announced that our troop is going to allow girls starting in 2019.  It is being driven by 2 dads.  They approached the Greater LA council, who then shoved it down our troops throat.  It will be very interesting to see how it will work.  It has not been decided if they will form a separate patrol withing the troop or be integrated into existing patrols.

Another sign that I am losing my America.

Its probably stated in the other thread but girls in BSA require their own troop/patrols/scoutmaster.  Girl and Boy troops within a chartered org can share a committee but thats about it.  They can't just join a regular troop and be put into a patrol.

Only Venturing (age 14-21) is co-ed.

This graphic explains it fairly well.

My therapeutic go-to move is hit 'Reply', delete ALL email addresses from all fields; then type up the most wretched, vile and disgusting response imaginable.  Read it to myself a couple of times then hit the 'X' at the top right.  It always makes me feel better and puts me in a better frame of mind before I send the real response.

Gotta be careful about this.  I know a guy that had a business and dealt with homeowners all the time.  He got into an argument with a obstinante customer about an issue with the job and wrote a regular letter where he raged on the guy.  Had a temp show up in the office and went ahead and mailed the letter instead of chunking it in the trash like his normal secretary.   I believe he ended up discussing it on camera with Marvin Zindler!

Are you my dad?  He has an old pizza pan in his camp cook box that many pounds of cornmealed catfish has sat on prior to frying. That cook looks great.

Big 4 is at 14lbs wasnt overly concerned with superlight gear
So with 2lbs of food a day 6 days worth puts me at 26lbs

Want to carry 6l water at max so thats another 12/13lbs. So at 38lbs

All clothes are lightweight nylon pants(3) and drifit shirts(4) with one rei fleece
5 pairs of thin wool socks and 3 undies with 2 pair of polyester/spandex blend thermals....plus jetboil
Which puts me in the 45 to 47 lbs max carry with some miscellaneous items

Think i did ok considering i will be coming into towns at around 25 pounds and max around 47ish

Maybe what you posted above isn't comprehensive but to me you have to much clothing.  I don't have duplicates of the same type clothing except for uw and socks.  If its cold, I'll layer up with just about everything.   For summertime hikes in the  mountains, I carry:

1 LS shirt, 1 ss shirt,  1 pr zipoff pants, 1 pair hiking shorts, 2 pair tech underwear,  3 pair of socks, 1 pair lightweight thermals, 1 lightweight fleece jacket, a lightweight rainjacket,  a myog rainskirt, ski liner gloves and lightweight beanie.  I'm wearing one set of clothes and carrying the other.

I good down to 32F with this setup.

Yall probably dont want to hear about how i dont feel like getting poles for colorado trail then....never have used poles on any hike
But yall make it sound nice
Leave next in about a week
Plan on doing some acclimating hikes around nederland and leadville then start around june 13/15

I would love to hear why you don't use poles.  I've converted several hikers that said they never felt they needed them.  My suggestion is to buy a set of Black Diamond Trail or Trail Pro (I like the flicklocks on the Trail Pros) poles from REI and use them on 2-3 short hikes. Even better if you use do a hill climb/descent under a full pack.  If you don't like them after that, take them back to REI.

  7. I wouldn't buy that battery power pack with the intention of power a CPAP off of the 120v outlet.   If you do some searching there are a couple of companies that make battery packs specifically for cpap's.  Post up your CPAP model and we can tell you how long that would run it or make a suggestion for a different power pack setup.

  8. All of the above regarding poles.  Set them up heightwise so your arm is at a 90 degree angle for flat land, a little shorter going uphill (I usually just choke up a bit) and a little longer on downhills.  You will definitely notice a definitely notice a difference in the shock load on your knees going down a stair stepped trail with a heavy pack when using poles.

  9. Usually just put the hose on the flush port but will hook up and run in the earmuffs a few times a season and when warming up to change oil. There is sometimes some sediment that's left in the tub after running on the ears even if I flushed on the port right before.

PSA - and SIAP - The REI annual sale is going on right now. They have the REI Flash 65 pack at 50% off - basically $100.

It seems to get pretty good reviews as a budget-minded pack at $200 - so at $100 seems to be a pretty good deal.

Lots of other stuff on sale too of course, but this one caught my eye..

I've done two Philmont treks and a bunch of other weekend hikes with a 2012 version of the Flash 65.  Bought it on clearance like what is going on now.  Decent pack for 35# and $100.

I get that sentiment, but the problem is that this is a different disease than one of a purely physical nature......The diminishing cognitive skills and associated frustration and paranoia make a well thought out "self exit" nearly impossible when the time comes.  A sufferer can't make that decision when the time comes.

This exactly.  Dad always said if he got down to where he was gonna have to be put in a home or extended care that I had better leave him with a gun.  That time has passed and all his firearms are locked in a safe and he doesn't remember the combination to that safe  nor has he even brought it up since being diagnosed.   Kinda of the same thing with the sets of cars keys that he "lost".

  12. Dad was diagnosed with ALZ in early 2015 and Mom was diagnosed with lymphoma that fall and passed away in January 2017 (F cancer). Dad is by himself in our hometown and has caregivers that come every day  and help out with meals and housework.  He can remember what happened when he was a kid but he can't remember what day it is or what he had for breakfast.  He is finally realizing he can't remember stuff but will not acknowledge that he has Alz even after his sister suffered through it for 10 years.   Sometime this year or next we will probably have to move him into fulltime care.

This is a song from one of my favorite bands.  The lyrics really hit home.
