  1. Yeah, like I messaged you there’s only one reason to spend any more time than you have to in SJO.

i love Sancho’s. There is a great Italian place you could go to Saturday night after fishing in Quepos called L’angolo. It’s tiny and a dive but it’s great. Or if you catch fish go to Runaways at the marina and have them cook it. There’s an ATM at the marina that is safe to use and dispenses US dollars or colones. Take plenty of 1s and 5s. Everyone there will take dollars but you’ll get screwed on the change back. I pay with my bank card everywhere I can.

i’d also do some bar hopping on Saturday night in Quepos. Hit up Wacky Wanda’s which will have the most Americans. Place only holds bout 25 people but they will almost all be expats or fishing people. They can point you in the right direction for other bars.

Yeah, I looked into what 40-50 foot charters are.  They are 10k for a week.  I don't know if they get those, and I will try to do a surly discount when I get out there.

Where are you going to be while your boat  ship is out on these week long charters? Are you planning on getting a captains license and running the charters yourself?

calling out @justhookit for doing nothing but neg repping in this thread without posting. Sick bro.

I’m probably more of a basketball fan than football. So Derka can be a beating. You are worse. I’m pretty sure all 3 or 4 of my negs to you on this thread are more than I have ever given to anyone in total, not just here but Shaggy too. Congrats.

Look, I just don't know what to think until CloseToJumping posts here to tell me about I Am Sam. His opinion is what really counts.

I’ll post for him. Sam vacillates between suck and average.

The take from the tcu boards is that gp takes a lot of pride in his defensive stats and makes calls like this to pad them even when it gives you a lower chance of winning the game.

If that's even remotely true, the guy needs to hang it up as a hc and go be a coordinator.  I would be livid if we ever had a coach give up on game to protect stats on his preferred side of the ball.

Punting to give our offense the ball back pads his defensive stats? ok

Nobody thought Colt would be the quarterback he proved to be his third and forth year after eight starts.

Sam's decision making hass vastly improved from last year, as has our offensive line.  He's making his pre-snap reading and  making adjustments at the line this year much better than last year.  If the line continues to get better and he continues to get support from the running game, this year will be about how he develops making multiple reads post-snap.

I want to see how effective we can be if Sam makes it to the point where he can get to his second or third read before scrambling out of the pocket before I write him off as a bust.  Eight starts just isn't enough time to expect that development to have happened yet.  Assuming Sam stays healthy and plays the whole or most of the season (which isn't a given), these are questions for next year, not this year.

No, you don’t need to wait till next year to realize he is mediocre to average at best. But he tries hard and bleeds orange so we’ve got that going for us.

  7. I’ll go against what most people would say and tell you not to do the National Park, especially on a short trip. You’ll have more fun doing any oh the other tours, or even exploring by yourself. If the weather is good you could even head down to Dominical which is 30 minutes south. Good beaches, very few tourists, and a cool little brewery.

  8. If it’s a Tulemar property it’ll be great. And they are really helpful setting up any excursions you decide you might want to try. Everyone goes zip lining and it’s touristy, but the white water rafting and the waterfall rappelling are really fun if you decide to do anything and have the time.

  9. Yeah speaking of that, no hotels that time of year are going to sell out. You could book a night only and I am pretty positive you’d be fine at the same rate if you want to stay, unless it’s some sort of internet special. Worst case is you could get another hotel there in Manuel Antonio. Or if you decide you don’t like it there just get a driver to take you up to Jaco which is a little over an hour away.

  10. It really just comes down to what you want to do at night. There are lots more options in Jaco including a pretty decent casino. And you are closer to good surfing in Jaco if you are into that.

But for just relaxing, you can’t beat Manuel Antonio/Quepos

    yeah, we already rescheduled :(

You would have been fine. We flooded pretty bad last night but it’s already receded and the disturbance is moving out of the area. Sad thing is that some of the places that were damaged in Harvey flooded again.

  12. I know I mentioned the rainy season, but for the most part it’s usually not that bad. It CAN rain 24/7, but my experience in the fall has generally been afternoon and night rains and occasionally no rain at all. Last year I was down twice in September and October and I don’t think it rained more than a few hours during the day. That said, the week before I was there it was raining all day long and there were mudslides that closed the highway from San Jose to the coast.

Or just wait till after New Years and then you won’t have to worry about the weather and there will still be $400 flights. Sometimes less especially if you fly out of Houston.

Also, you were pre-Harvey. I wonder if that's changed things much or if it's back to normal at this point.

Don’t know about Houston, but build prices here in Port A have gone way up since Harvey. Everything from labor to materials is higher.

Decarb boat I went out on recently had a good weekend.

    4 sails

    2 whites

    1 blue

    15 dorado

That’s a nice haul. We fished our last tournament of the year Saturday. TWAT Tournament. Won 2nd place overall and first place blue marlin. Check got a bonus for a wahoo pot too and it ended up being for almost as much as when we won it 3 years ago. Good end to,the season.

  15. Yeah but that boat and most like it are run by professional captains. 99% of them are responsible and much more than just competent. If the captain is not on the bridge someone else is supposed to be up there. Heck, on our boats we have someone up there 24/7 even if we are just drifting at night. At most there might be 2 or 3 minutes at night when whoever has night watch goes downstairs to wake up the next watch. If there is a shift change at night and we do happen to be running, the boat goes into idle.  But running at 30 knots with no one up there? Insane.

  16. Yes, at 30 knots in the middle of a sunny day. In an area where there were a lot of shrimpers. We could easily see 20 or so as we were running in about 25 miles off POC. Just no excuse for what happened.

  17. Well, since we are doing it already, this was about a month ago during the run in on the final day of Lonestar Shootout in POC. The fishing boat that sank is based out of Port A. I know pretty much everyone who was on the boat including the captain. The story goes that they were on autopilot and whoever was on the bridge left and went downstairs to take a picture with the marlin they were bringing in to weigh. With all the lawsuits that are going to happen I doubt I’ll ever hear exactly what went wrong. Regardless, it’s unbelievably stupid that it happened and they are fortunate no one was seriously hurt or killed.

    More coming

  18. Light blue boat in the 2nd picture is  Done Deal. They are considered the top boat in the gulf for winning blue marlin tournamentsover the last decade or so. The red boat is Smooth Move and they have been the hottest boat in the Texas tournaments this year. 2 wins with the largest blue marlin weighed in and another win this past weekend with 6 blue releases.
