All that being said, it's almost impossible to ignore that Texas passes the eye test and absolutely is a draw.
That Florida game is a bitch to explain. Winning is the solution.
The whole season is hard to explain. The Ohio State game was extremely winnable if Arch plays decent. We outgained them something like 330 to 200. And then we were utter dog shit against UTEP, Kentucky, and most of the MSU game.

Share some of the intinerary!
Restaurants you are gonna hit, shows you have planned, etc.
Nothing crazy. So far Cafe Un Deux Trois (twice, one meal once for drinks great bartender), food tour of Little Italy and Chinatown, La Grande Boucherie pre theater dinner, Book of Mormon (not impressed), pizza one meal of course, lots of pubs. We’ve done a lot of walking/shopping. Tonight is Nobu 57 and then head home tomorrow. Really enjoying the trip.
@PenelopeWitherspoon we have hit a couple of your bar spots, thanks. Jimmy’s Corner is a block from us so we have been twice.

Wife and I are about an hour from landing for a 5 day getaway. Between shows and dinners and cocktails and shopping we will spend absolutely zero time at the hotel. Mainly looked at hotels in midtown/theatre/Times Square areas. there were a ton of good options in the 500 dollar range. I was a little surprised at how “cheap” it was to be honest.

Texas lost to Ohio State and ... Florida.
OU should be ranked ahead of us.
If only there was a head to head match-up of OU/Texas when discussing the 2 teams that have an equal number of losses.

Also trade that Corona in for Imperial or Bavaria.

@Rip76 where did y’all go? I’ve been to Tamarindo and Flamingo up there but only briefly.

How’s the weather? I assume you stuck with Guanacaste. The earthquake 2 days ago shook the central coast pretty good but I’m guessing you didn’t feel much.

Here's the play and reaction with Wingo running off to the bench. Again, I understand the frustration. But it's the 1st quarter. It's concerning.
It’s 4th down. I think it’s better than him turning to Arch with a WTF was that look.

HBO Max in its various incarnations/renamings has been the worst app experience for me.
This. Overall it is awful and crashes at least once every time I try to use it.

BTW i just talked to my captain he said the fishing has been really slow. Just some tuna and not many. It was great when we left 3 weeks ago but has been slowing down ever since we left.

As far as bringing a few bottles of bourbon to CR, is that ok?
I think it’s 3 liters per person.
the duty free at SJO has a really good selection of tequila/rum/vodka so I am sure they have good bourbons too. It’s cheap and a lot easier than sticking a bunch of bottles in your checked luggage so you might just do that. We load up there every time we go through because it’s about 1/2 the price of buying anywhere else.

Unfortunately my special lady friend had a family emergency so I dropped her att the muni this morning and shes headed back to Dallas. I've got one more night here in MA and then over to Aranal before going home on Monday
Agua Azul is closed so we had some apps at El Avion and then dinner at Le Papillioni. I am probably going to drive over to Fuego for something to do now that Im solo. Went fishing yesterday and got skunked. Water is really bad from the rain. Win some lose some.
Sucks about the fishing. Quepoa is the sister restaurant to Agua Azul and has very similar food so you might try that if it’s open. I also can’t remember if you’ve been to Mangata but it’s our favorite restaurant in MA right now.

Anything new here?
looking at a 5-6 day getaway in about 2 weeks. Tahoe and New Orleans made the cut. Looks like Tahoe will be cold (50’s high but close to freezing at night) but that might be a nice change since I am usually in very warm weather.
Anyone been out there this time of year? Mostly looking for good food, scenery, a night or 2 at the casino.

So caught my limit of reds yesterday afternoon so a happy man! Fish pass Jetty was golden for abo autn hour and a half.
Was trying to figure out where to watch the game in Port A today. We always seem to end up at Stingrays and the food just so average it bums me out. Anyplace else worth a damn to watch the game today? Thought about driving down towards North Padre Island, as there is a place Hard Knocks that's a sports bar there, but only because I wanted to go to Roy's and get some fishing stuff.
Any suggestions?
PS - have a case of Karbach Hopadillo I want to give to somebody in Port A either this weekend or next. preferably a Longhorn! We will be as some bar today watching, and we will be at Pig Party next weekend if any of you guys like that beer.
Sip Yard isn’t bad for game watching. Brewster Street Ice House just opened on North Padre but I haven’t been yet.

Back in Texas after a great summer “off-season” in CR. Had some great marlin days and then at the end of August and early September the sailfish bite went crazy. Released 90 in 2 days and the 2nd day we ran out of bait. Overall in our last 2 weeks we released well over 200 billfish, mostly sails with some marlin mixed in. We are now taking a few months off and then will head back to CR at the end of November.
2nd video is a blue marlin double. First fish is on the right teaser and we get a great bite from it. 2nd fish comes on the left teaser as we are clearing lines.

Also do's and don'ts, how much cash to bring for tips, etc. (for 4 days)
If you are up for a drive Playa Conchal is my favorite beach in that area. I think it’s a little less than an hour away though. As the others said just use an ATM and get colones for whatever cash you need.

These days I almost always go to the Lake Austin one but I’ve had many, many Tio Chon Enchilada plates there and at 360 over the years and it’s always really damn good. Only a few more weeks and I’ll be back for a football game and definitely a meal at Maudie’s.

So what happens when you do a day trip on Thursday and catch 17 sailfish and 1 blue marlin, then go back out on Friday to the same place 30 miles from the marina and catch 7 blue marlin and 4 sailfish? And your entire crew wants to fish tomorrow. You decide not to fish tomorrow so you can watch us beat the fuck out of Ohio St. But we will go again on Sunday.

Between phoenix, lisabella's, Stout's, and KC's Oyster shack which would you recommend?
I’d do Stout’s or Lisabella’s. I’ve also only been to KC’s once but friends have said it’s a little hit and miss.

Venetian Hot Plate owners will be on vacation while we are in Port A. Any other restaurant worth making a reservation for, or should we just plan on heading to Corpus for anything other than fried fish?
Roosevelt’s, Phoenix, Lisabella’s, Black Marlin are are well above fried fish quality but not as good as Venetian. La Playa of course but they don’t do reservations. The new restaurant at Cinnamon Shore (Stout’s) is getting great reviews. I’ve only been once but it was very good. Definitely need a reservation.

Finally going back to CR on Oct 8th with a lady friend. 5 nights total. I think we will do either 2 or 3 nights at Tulemar in MA and then the remainder in Jaco because I've actually never been there. She doesn't fish but I asked her if she's cool with just being on the boat with her size G tits in a bikini handing me beers and she said "do I have to wear a top?" Any suggeston on what room to get at Tulemar?
Any input on where to stay in Jaco from anyone? Money is generally not an issue. Definitely want a pool and beach front would be preferable. And even though we both have teens; neither of us want a bunch of screaming brats ruining our day
@justhookit I sent you a message on boat
I generally have really good luck with Airbnb for Jaco. I’m not really familiar with the condos or hotels. Crocs resort/casino also fits what you want. It’s on the beach but a 10-15 minute walk into the main part of Jaco which can be good or bad. You can also usually find some really, really good deals on high end condos in Los Suenos that time of year but that’s a 15 minute drive to Jaco.
1 hour ago, tbone_ said:It was always my understanding that one didn’t want to bring one’s own sand to the Jaco beach and that hanging out at the Beatle Bar was what it was all about. Or so I’ve heard.
Also the above post is worthless, for reasons you know well.
Beatle Bar is gone, it’s now a regular bar called Rolling Thunder. The hookers have all gone to Hotel Cocal on the beach.

I guess it would be Indiana, Tech, Ole Miss in that order but I doubt I will watch any of it. I’ll be in CR and wont give a shit.
