Congrats amigo. Why an offshore closing?

Yup. Costa Rica wants their share if you don’t do that. Funds go into escrow. It’s a weird deal where the seller’s agent drives the boat out and then you take pictures and video of the signing of the documents along with you coordinates on the GPS and a newspaper with the current date. Takes like 5 minutes then they hand you the “keys” to the boat and you get to drive it home.

Did an offshore closing this morning 13 miles out of Los Suenos then got her home to Marina Pez Vela in Quepos this afternoon. Have no idea how 99% of the stuff works on this boat yet but I’m down here for about 9 days to start figuring things out. Name change can’t take place until the paperwork is done down here which may take a few months. In the meantime the old name works just fine for a CR boat.

Back to the old spot at the sidewalk split.
So it only took us one game to get kicked out of the collaboration? Sounds about right.

Yeah wouldn't think they belong in the same sentence, but didn't think Albermarles were that thought down on. Just that folks are that high on Spencers. Friend of mine almost bought an older Albermarle once. It was solid (but slow) and seemed like a good boat for the $$$ (they don't command much). But I never followed the express market at all.
Not real sure why I’ve never heard any specific problems other than the fit and finish isn’t that great. I didn’t mean it had a Luhrs reputation or anything. It may be just that all of their previous models are smaller than what is needed in the Gulf and too heavy/slow for fishing down south.
it’s an interesting concept in that you don’t have many boat builders producing convertible boats in that size range.
As for Spencer, they are minimum 3 years out on build times and I don’t think will make anything smaller than a 70’ anymore. Most people love them but they built a few that were nothing but problems. The ones I have been on have been fantastic boats with a price to match.

See y’all wherever it is.

Yeah interested to see how that one goes. Serious fisherman in my parts of the world love Spencers but really look down on Albemarles.

I think all the idiots just stopped on NPI and didn't drive the rest of the way to Port A...
There were enough idiots to go around. Port A was packed.

It was a good time at Shorty’s. Surprisingly not that crowded considering it was the eclipse and the Pig Party but we left fairly early so maybe it got busier. Round 2 starts this afternoon at the house. Fajitas and margaritas with some good friends.

It took almost 2 weeks, but we’ve finally got the great October weather. @MissingInAction is coming down for the weekend, I’m thinking Shortys for the eclipse if anyone wants to go have a few beers.

Just got back from a short trip to Costa Rica to check out the boat and do a sea trial. 32 knot cruise and top end at 41. Surveys are complete and it passed with flying colors. Discovered a hidden bar and ice maker in the saloon that wasn’t in the listing or pictures, it’s like they built the boat just for me. Closing is set for the end of the month.

While we are at it would you like to share your Nica experiences?
Yeah, same time frame in CR with some friends we rented a 6 bedroom Villa that was about 1000 a night. Three bedroom in SJDS for 350 was a good deal, especially if it had a view. On the other hand anything in Los Suenos is ridiculously expensive it’s the most expensive place in CR. Headed there tomorrow and managed to find a condo for 150 a night which is a steal even in the off-season.

Damn, sorry I’m going to miss this one. Y’all have a great time.

Hmmm, well I certainly don't have hundreds of thousands of sea miles, but around here at least, and down on the Texas coast, it's extremely common for boats to be named, and for that name to be displayed on the stern, like this:
As for never hearing of it, I don't know what to tell you. It's pretty commonly known. Perhaps it's possible you don't know EVERYthing about boating?
Yeah, don’t really know any boats that don’t have a name anywhere I’ve been. Sure, a 17 foot skiff may not have a name but a lot of my friends with boats like that have a name they call it and most have that name somewhere on the boat side. As far as tbone’s size boat they all have a name around here.

Yes there is definitely a superstition that renaming a boat is bad luck. I’ve heard various fixes for that, including breaking a bottle over the bow like fatty mentioned. But my favorite is having a virgin urinate over the bow of the boat.

Thanks everyone. We did a shaggy trip back when I had the old boat in Port A so hopefully some of y’all can make it down to do one in Costa Rica soon.

What that set you back? $25k? $30k?
Tree fiddy.
Boat prices have gone bonkers the last few years as you know, but I feel like I got a really good deal on this one.

Holy shit that is awesome!
Hatteras? Viking? Bertram?Viking. As much as I wanted to pull the trigger on a custom I just couldn’t justify it so went with another Viking. My experience with their boats has been excellent.

So @justhookit any tips on what to fish for bay side in late Oct? Had to change a CR trip for “local” (boooooo).
Just hoping at least place is not crowded and we can enjoy beach days by letting mutts run slightly free.
That’s the best time of year for redfish. October is the best month of the year here. Weekends will be a little crowded but you should find plenty of room the further south you go on the beach.

I can’t always remember people I met last week, plus I was likely drunk.
