Who's talking about legal advice? I'm talking about pontificating. Not really about message board posts. Real life, face to face pontificating, with no risk of malpractice. Like I said previously, way better if you can get two attorneys in the same room who both want to spitball.

I’ve never heard a lawyer pontificate in a social setting and give any kind of CYA mumble jumbo while doing it, but then again I tend to tune them out at the first mention of anything other than do you want another beer or where are we going next. I mean @trophtried to give me advice but damn I still want to steal their dog.

im still at the stage where I can’t even believe we are having this conversation. Sucks for everyone. At some point I guess I’ll post something on the basketball thread in a selfish way when emotions die down, but man I’m devastated.

I just know a bunch of attorneys. There are a lot of them out there, in case you haven't noticed.

Man I am as hurt and maybe more hurt over this situation as you are. We had everything going right and for the first time in years I enjoyed watching the games.

yesterday was a gut punch followed by a swift kick in the balls. 52 years of life and there has never been anything even remotely comparable to what just happened.

Well, to be fair I've known plenty of lawyers who practically thought the same thing. Law is law, right? Even if they know nothing about it, they'll start in like they do, because that's basically what law school trains you to do, even if you spit out the caveat, "this isn't my specialty" every once in a while as a CYA.

I'm not saying that's every attorney, but it's a bunch of them. And if you happen to get two attorneys in the same room, neither of whom have the specialty being discussed, well...you'll be there all day.

Also, I’ve never known a lawyer that will give legal advice outside of his/her office.

You appear to be referencing message board posts.

You know a bunch of shitty attorneys.

Yeah I already mentioned it yesterday

Allen, Carr, Rice, Bishop - all done after this year
Mitchell, Morris - likely going to jump into the NBA draft
Disu - probably draft as well, since he tested the waters already and transferred once
Hunter - draft, probably.  Already transferred once.
Brumbaugh - transfer probably, redshirt year
Brock - dude bleeds burnt orange and white, I don't see him going anywhere else unless he hangs it up for real life

No idea - Anamekwe, Clark, Bott, Perryman

Holland and Johnson will likely be given the option to be let out of their NLIs

In his limited minutes I’ve been impressed with Anamekwe. He’s got more skill than I thought. Hope he and Brumbaugh both stay.

This.  It's one thing to defend yourself if you are being attacked, even by a crazy woman.

But in that case, you do only what you have to do to free yourself and get out of the situation.  Anything else is excessive.  If they have audio proving that he went far beyond doing what he needed to do to get out of the situation, then he's fucked.

Beard is the one that supposedly has the audio recording that might show that he was not the primary aggressor.

The only mention of the choking is the part where they mention difficulty breathing which came from her statement. They don’t mention any physical marks/bruises or evidence in the neck area. The bite mark is disconcerting but the rest can probably be explained away as self defense. Clearly there was a physical confrontation. It reads like a bad relationship that got physical, not like a habitual wife beater. I doesn’t read like he was seriously trying to hurt her. He should and will be fired.

Cant see any way he retains his job. On to the game thread and then the coaching search thread.

I think the difference here is that the fact this is being blasted all over national news. We want to see UT move quickly because of our love for UT and it's reputation. We already have Morris and his pending legal shit. We don't want to be the domestic abuse school.

So UT needs to make it clear publicly that we don't tolerate this shit.

I would think your boss also wouldn't want his company developing a reputation like that in whatever industry you are in either.

Once again, I was responding to the “fire him TODAY!!!!!” posts. It’s stupid and not how things work. I’d guess a suspension is coming pretty quick.

Ive already said I believe the most likely outcome is that Beard will never coach here again. And it’s the right thing. On the very minuscule chance that this is a complete misunderstanding then he keeps his job. And that outcome also means that a) nobody was abused and b) I can go back to worrying about fishing instead of this shit. Win/win for everyone.

I mean at the very least there’s a 911 call where he’s actively choking someone, right?

Seems very unlikely he keeps his job

No. There’s a hotshot 911 call. What was happening during the call who knows. You ever been choked/choking? You’re not going to make a phone call. Did he choke/restrict breathing at some point before or even after that? We don’t know but seems possible or even likely.

He should and will be gone when enough facts are out. I agree it seems unlikely he keeps his job barring a miracle set of circumstances.

    1) I said "decent guy" not "top tier human"

    2) I'm a softie and believe most people are good deep down but get lost along the way

People make mistakes. Especially when alcohol is involved.

A person can be a good person when sober and terrible person when drunk. Those people need to simply stop drinking alcohol and life gets much better for them.

Disclaimer: I drink alcohol. I'm not an AA guy. But I've seen this type of shit enough times in my life.

Why do you keep bringing up alcohol in relation to this incident? I mean I realize 99% of this thread is speculation but at least there is some tweet or rumor or whatever to base that speculation on. You seem to be just going off of time of night?
