So many people in CR now are bitching about how expensive CR has gotten. Those prices on that menu look pretty similar to what I am seeing here. Overall did you find it a lot cheaper than CR or pretty similar?
-
Anyone coming down this year? Going on month 2 right now and here until late April. They changed the entry stamp from 90 days to 180 which makes things a lot easier. I’ll be back for all of July and August too.
Prices are noticeably up for almost everything, still a bit cheaper than Texas but not by much anymore. It’s also much more crowded than I’ve ever seen it.
@immamac my last Burnt Endz koozie went overboard while we were fishing the other day. Need more por favor.

This was Quepos, at least this trip. Boat was Double Nickel, it appears (could only see Double … in the pics).
Haha. We were probably fishing near your friends and I bet I saw them around the dock. That’s definitely the Double Nickel. Probably the best true charter boat in the Quepos marina currently.

I didn’t get it. I asked but think it got swallowed up in a thread. Will find out next time I see them, if I can recall
No worries, just curious if I knew the guys. Honestly I don’t know too many of the Los Suenos boats real well and if I remember from last time we talked about this I think they fish out of there and not Quepos down the coast an hour where I am.

I asked them to look out for y’all’s ride. You’d know some folks from this group, having been involved (iirc) with POCO for so long.
What boat were they fishing down here?

My POC offshore buddies were down there about 2 weeks ago. Crushed the sails but no Marlin this trip. Didn’t get all the details but know they had several 15-20 sail days, pretty decent days.
Yup. 15-20 releases is at the top of the fleet most days and a few days some boats have done even better. Sailfish have been around in big numbers this season so far but very few marlin. It was the complete opposite last year.

Great day on the new boat yesterday. After a slow morning with just a few sailfish we hooked a black marlin just before noon. Got the release 2.5 hours later. Lines back in the water and 5 minutes later caught a double header sailfish. Lines back in the water and 10 minutes later we hook another black marlin. This time it “only” takes about 2 hours. Run back in and barely make it to the marina by dark. Gotta brag on my girl she hooked both the marlin and fought them both the majority of the time. We’ve caught a ton of blue and striped marlin down here in 8 seasons, but those were the first 2 blacks ever.

Lol. My Shaggy fishing trip experience went really well, except somebody ended up pregnant. Troph even though your brother was there he wasn’t the one responsible.

So that's yours now? Very nice.
Yeah, in the end it was a no-brainer. The boat is fully loaded with every possible option and it was located in Costa Rica already. Really happy with how it all worked out.
Also if anyone is ever in need of a boat broker for buying or selling, I can’t recommend Galati enough. https://www.galatiyachts.com
This is the third time I’ve used them (2 purchases 1 sale) and there’s no one else in the industry that can compare. As I mentioned above we had a steering issue and couldn’t source a replacement part that would ship quickly. One call to Galati and 30 minutes later they not only had the part on the way but found it for about 1500 less than what we were able to find on our own.- 1

it’s got too many hours on it for me. The boat not the girl.
I was looking back searching for an old post and stumbled across these posts. It ended up being the best available option in my size/price range. Forgot there was a blonde woman in the sales video. I’ve been staying and fishing on the boat for over 2 weeks now. Still no sign of the blonde. Currently waiting on a new part to be shipped from the states because steering went out. Love boats!

Made it back down to Costa Rica for the season about 2 weeks ago. Fished my new boat the first week and then combined my team with Game Plan and fished their boat this week for the Rockstar Tournament. Largest event in Central America and this year had 91 boats. It’s a two day tournament and we had an epic day on Day 1 totaling the most release points and winning the daily jackpots. Day 2 was slower but we still took home the second largest cash prize of all the boats. Really proud of my guys and our team.

Wish they would have mentioned the price tag on that beast. I don’t really like fishing on boats over 80 foot so I can’t imagine I’d like it on that thing, but I wouldn’t turn down an invite.

In Costa Rica. Tamarindo area. Anyone have any charter recs? Our family of 22 are here. 8 of us want to go offshore. Would appreciate any intel. Thanks. @justhookit might know so I am tagging him. Here until 23rd.
Fishing up there is not as good as it is further south but there are a few decent boats. The boat is really not big enough for 8 people but if it was me I’d fish with https://gamefisher2.com
i know the owner of the Fish Tale II that Spaulding mentioned. I think they are down in Quepos now.

No fucking way the SEC champ gets left out, but if you’re gonna do it the head to head loss is the deal breaker. I’d love to see it lol.I mean fuck it CDC just schedule incarnate word, trinity, and st edwards OOC every year. Georgia just lost to Bama. They are out. Texas vs Bama for the last spot. There’s a pretty fucking easy way to pick the team.

Wait they are telling you the shaft is bent, how did they determine that? Vibration can be from the shaft which can also wear (you don’t necessarily have to hit anything) but could also be the engine mount, coupling, bent prop, etc.

If the boat ended up on the beach, someone fucked up, full stop. They are fortunate that it was the beach and not rocks.
From the THT thread it appears that the anchor seized and the sea tow assist vessel broke the lines. And also at least one other vessel refused to assist because of the depth and weather conditions.

Well,
20+ years ago when I got my 6pack & tow endorsement I already had 25 years of boating experience. Small sail boats to 45' powerboats and everything in between. Never owned a boat that size, but the LOA isn't the issue. Clearly they got an anchor out whether they drug it ashore or panicked in the breakers and dropped it (more likely).
I also know that area well. There are several reefs the furthest out being ~120' on the deep side. Heavy surf would crumble on the 2nd reef and wouldn't break until 1st reef. It's runs from ~90 on the back side to ~35 ish at front of the 1st reef. It would have been much calmer there, It's sand bottom but with enough scope they should have held. Unless they were running after a cold front and we haven't had a strong one yet, the surf there is going to be < 10'. Hell they would have snagged the 1st reef on the way in. They had time to get hooked up.
Also this was Delray beach not the Horn of Africa one call to Seatow or BoatUS and I would expect the response time to be <30 mins. Those boys sit in the inlets waiting.
But I wasn't there, I don't know the sea conditions, I don't know what equipment they did have at their disposal. But for damned sure they should have had more than 1 anchor and the ability to use it with out power or a cell phone!
https://www.usharbors.com/harbor/florida/delray-beach-icww-fl/map/
If it was rough out that makes it worse imho, If I'm running a boat in sporty conditions I'm keeping my distance from land. Maybe they were picking their way through an inlet and shit went sideways at the worst possible time IDK
LMAO at a spare anchor and a cell phone.
I give up. You are correct it was incompetent idiots.

27 minutes ago, locodos said:
Did fire suppression kill the anchor too? Because if you're not taking on water and you are adrift and nearing (lets say within 1/4 mile) the shore, you drop anchor and wait for Boat US/Sea Tow.
Like I said, that boat doesn't hit the beach intact with anyone competent at the helm.
How much experience owning or running these kinds of boats do you have?
Anchor windlass will not operate since the fire suppression system killed its power source. Good luck getting someone up on the bow to pull the pin to manually drop in rough seas without getting someone seriously injured. If they even had time for that. Soft sand with that size boat you’re going to have a tough time even holding anchor if you do get it to drop. Unless you have some facts not in this thread then questioning the competence of anyone involved here is really reaching.

Annual maintenance is what, $100k year or more?2 to 3 times that for a boat that big and nice just for planned stuff, and then probably an equal amount set aside for shit that just breaks.

I wonder if the bigger concern isn’t what made the engines freeze up
Fire suppression system shuts down engines and gensets- no oxygen in the engine room.

That's wildly optimistic. Bent shafts, rudder damage, paint, etc... it looks like she's been rolling around in the surf a little bit. I'd go with >$150k not counting the tow/hard ungrounding and perhaps fees from FWC.
I mean, my post you quoted I said it needs new running gear. What happened is the definition of a soft grounding with a boat that size. New props, shafts, rudder, trim tabs, etc. is a dent in their annual maintenance budget. Plus it’s insured. No big deal at all. Fire suppression system may be a bigger issue depending on if there was actually a fire or not.

Hate seeing that. Fortunately that soft sand on the beach won’t really cause very much damage. New running gear and clean out the intakes and it’ll be good to go.
