  1. He wasn’t the best angler we’ve ever had but still managed to catch a blue marlin, 14 sails, and a boatload of dorado. May have to leave him in CR.
  2. Oh they were there. Forgot I had my phone on me until it was almost time to go. I’ll do a better job next time.
  3. I mean I was in LA with him for this game and he still brings it up. Dude knows his sports. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Right USC? <a href="https://t.co/XLrOaZ0IIr">https://t.co/XLrOaZ0IIr</a></p>&mdash; Bob Ballou (@BobBallouSports) <a href="https://twitter.com/BobBallouSports/status/1485095570775904256?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">January 23, 2022</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
  4. The local sports guys get a lot of shit here on Surly, deservedly. But if y’all aren’t fans of Bob y’all are missing out. He’s a Mizzou grad but both parents are Texas grads and he was raised a Longhorn and is a huge, huge fan. His personality would also fit very well on Surly.
  5. I was at both of those in person and also at the Final 4 in New Orleans the week after San Antonio but the Rose Bowl was the pinnacle and it’s not real close. I say that as a bigger basketball fan than football fan and as the son of a Texas basketball player. He played in the 60’s and was at all the above games with me and he would even agree.
  6. I think we are going to do some downtime tomorrow at the marina and then watch the basketball game at the sports bar here in the marina. I’ll try to get some good boat pron pictures.
  7. Fished the other day it’s a little slow we caught 5 sails and 4 dorado. Raised 2 blue marlin that wouldn’t eat and a bunch more sails. Hit the beach today at Playa Biesanz. Good day.
  8. Not too bad. About 30 bucks per foot per month.
  9. It’s just an upload from a video I took on my iPad to surlyhorns so pretty sure you wouldn’t need to download anything. I don’t know. Pura Vida.
  10. Yeah as long as you don’t mind us having a few beers. Don’t worry my captain doesn’t drink. I’ll send you my contact info.
  11. Also as far as packing you don’t need any clothes besides shorts and t-shirts. It’s muy caliente here. Bring hats and lots of sunscreen. The sun is way stronger than in the United States.
  12. All of what midtown said. Let me know when you get down and we will take you on a booze cruise to watch the sunset offshore of the National park
  13. Hey at least I managed to post the proper video afterwards. Dealing with the marina WiFi is sometimes a pain in the ass.
  14. Don’t know. It works for me. yeah the insurance requirement is gone. You just have to upload a copy of your vaccine card on their health pass website and answer some questions. It generates a QR code you save on your phone and use that when you enter the country. Some stores/restaurants/bars will ask you to show that but we haven’t run into any of that down here on the coast. Maybe it’s a San Jose thing.
  15. Well if I’m going to be completely honest here that was our first marlin of the day and I hooked it on a teaser bite. But the next marlin was a rigger bite and after I hooked it I was holding the rod in one hand and turned around to hand it off to a friend and - oh shit - rod goes flying out of my hand and into the water. I’ve fished all my life and never done that. Our American mate dumps our long rigger bait into freespool for about 15 seconds and then starts slowly reeling in and comes tight. He miraculously snagged the line. Reels a little more and there is our rod and reel. Pick it up and hand it to my friend and the damn fish is still on. Fifteen minutes later we catch the marlin. Fortunately none of this is on video and if anyone ever asks me if it happened I will deny it or at least blame it one someone else.
  16. The view from El Avion in Manuel Antonio still doesn’t suck.
  17. Hurricane Harvey, building a new house, and Covid kept me away from my girl for way too long.Gonna spend a few months down here on it, fish a bunch, and list it for sale for way too high of a price. The market is on fire. If it actually sells I’m going to downsize to a one bedroom 35ish foot boat which is all I need for fishing here. @troph y’all better get down here soon
  18. Internet down here is screwy. Don’t know what happened on the other post but this is Cindy’s marlin. Had to wake her up and get her out of bed to reel in the fish. IMG_0164.MOV
  19. And a nice well behaved sailfish jumping right at the boat IMG_0152.MOV
  20. Cindy’s first ever marlin the other day. Fishing again Tuesday the marlin bite is on fire. IMG_0163.MOV
  21. Go over to Isla Mujeres and fish with Keen M or any American boat there.
  22. 3/7 blue marlin today and 3/5 on sails. 2 of the marlin we lost were really bad luck. And we caught this cute little guy. IMG_0161.MOV
  23. Also I don’t necessarily recommend that hotel but it’s next door to our favorite bar in town.
