This one veers into the technical side of things and CR posts, but here goes. For someone as smart as she is, she's still a women and she must think there's a bigot under every bed.

Me: "All I am saying is that the standard deviation for measuring men's mathematical ability is higher than for women. The mean is about the same but the spread is wider. There are more men than women on the high end and there are more men than women on the low end. You're an engineer. I know you know what I mean. It's not all attributable to discrimination."

Ms CL: "Oh yeah? Then how come my high school calculus teacher looked at the classroom on the first day of school and said, 'There are too many girls in here'"?

    Me: "What percentage were women?"

    Ms CL: "About 60%"

Me: "Did any drop out? How many?"

    Ms CL: "About half"

Me: "So by the end there were more boys than girls?"

    Ms CL: "Yes"

Me: "You realize what you're saying?"

Ms CL: "Yes, the teacher was biased against girls."

    .

    .

<Conversation continues for a while - we talk in circles>

    .

    .

Me: "I know you understand what I am saying about there being more men at either end of the curve. It's basic statistics.I know you know how a normal distribution works."

Ms CL: "Yes. But I'm the only girl engineer at my job. Shouldn't there be more like 30%?" (Guess she's referring to the calculus class thing?)

Me: "No, the further down the curve you get, the ratio of men to women should get much higher. It might be 10 or 5 or 1 percent women by the time you get to really advanced fields like what you do."

Ms CL: "Then if there is no discrimination, how come the further I have gone in my career, there have been fewer and fewer women?"

Me: "Good point. I think I'm going to go surf Shaggy for a while."

What kind of engineer is she? Does she design bridges? If so can you please tell me where those bridges might be?

  2. The show is weird. Some of the stuff is really great, like the Yen transformation scene, the Striga, the fight at Blaviken, and then the Golden Dragon shows up looking like Dragonheart 9: the Search for Spock straight to VHS. Whoever said this was a modern Kevin Sorbo Hercules nailed it.

Book: Dwarves are short, stocky badasses

Show: Dwarves are just small people who say rude things and do nothing. They're like Triumph the Insult Comic Dog

Or maybe she's cheating on him and someone in the show reminded her of her side piece.

You mean the side piece who just knocked her up so she has to nail down a sex alibi to avoid a paternity test?

Good luck raising some other dude's baby, sucker.

The only thing I don’t like about that trailer is how emotional Bond is in a few different scenes. Craig’s Bond has always been a stone cold killer. Even when professing his love for Vesper he was distant. Now he finds himself speechless at the sight of whatshername, or he’s bitching at her with tears in his eyes. I hope they didn’t soften him up in this.

IMO that's been the theme of the Craig Bond's character arc. Each movie has chipped away a little bit at his resolve and left him more human and exposed. I mean that's what Skyfall is pretty much all about. Since they pulled him out of retirement for this one, it would make sense that he's shakier than ever.

Just got off the phone with Kelly @ Cole's finalizing the purchase of a Beretta 686 20/28 combo for my 10 year old. Asked since it was a field model if I could just pay them to remove the auto-safety in the shop since he's mostly going to shoot clays with it and she offered to do it for free. Earlier this year she sold me the same model for my older son and swapped out the existing stock for left-handed wood just for the cost of the labor.

Beretta is phasing out the 686 combos. I've been looking for a while. So when she said she had one, I grabbed it.

Awesome customer service. They are great.

Told my wife I was going to pay for this newest purchase by trading in a couple of old guns I no longer shoot.

I am not actually going to trade in those old guns I no longer shoot.

Tell me more about Beretta phasing these out. What's that about?

So our home and land is down in Hutchins, right off the trinity and near the old gravel/clay quarry.

Back in the late 80s it got bad because people started to abandon their dogs at the trinity bridge on dowdy ferry... which basically isn’t too far from our land(which we don’t own anymore) it got really bad about 15 years ago and apparently some spca or pet group has taken to trying to rescue the dogs.

So feral dogs were a big problem, my pops basically had one rule for me growing up. If I was going out to play on the property, I had to have my .22lr with me. I’d run across dogs often and usually they’d run off into the woods. Only once did I have to put down a dog. He bowed up blocking the path from the back pasture to the front, he started bristling, bared his teeth and finally made a move towards my buddy and me.

Completely different situation. But I just couldn't put a .270 between the eyes of Sounder the world's friendliest dog.

We get neighbors dogs on our place.  I don't think they hurt anything so they get a pass.  Not that I could shoot a dog anyhow.

Everybody I know talks about shooting dogs, but I've never known anybody who follows up. We had a bad dog problem on my family's place years ago. People used to run their dogs all the time and just leave the ones who didn't find the truck.

I was fourteen or so and told my dad I would start shooting dogs. I was hunting a greenfield in a stand when what looked like some sort of coon hound started sniffing around the far end of the field. I put my scope on him to shoot him and I swear to God he looked right at me and started panting and wagging his tail. He ran over and circled around my stand a few times and tried to climb up because he was so excited to see somebody. I shot a doe out of the field later that day and when my dad picked me up the dog was sitting next to me wagging his tail.

I did not shoot the dog.

Yeah like I said...has to be stroke or someshit. The wife and I are the only ones in the family that include them in anything. FIL is always appreciative and does the things he can to help (on a fixed income). It isn't about the nail...err...corn. it is about the cray.

She's mad at your FIL for spending money on hunting and she's trying to pick a fight with you to stop it.

Mentioned before in threads past and I will again: men's Thanksgiving get together.

A friends dad started this over 40 years ago and we continue the tradition. Martini Matinee starts at 10a and ends at 11a SHARP. There is vodka and gin. No beer, no wine, no anything else. Of course olives and onions, but basically it is gin/vodka over ice in a pewter cup. Coat and tie is mandatory. No women allowed, even if the hosting house is cooking dinner, she isnt allowed to come out.

That's how you East Texas, bitches.

Yeah but who has to eat the cracker at the end?

This man gets it.  We should add 4 shitty teams to the conference, go to 8 conference games and all schedule 4 cupcakes and the Big 12 could transform into the SEC overnight.

    you could also try tackling

Anyone that cuts a fence like that is going to have no regard for legal, ethical, or safety considerations when it comes to hunting.

If it weren't for the fact that you would probably be shot, I'd set up a ground blind on the fence-line right where it was cut and hunt facing back into your property, catching the deer as they try to make their way to the feeders behind you.  Then after you shoot, yell back to the inout-laws thanking them for helping you pattern the deer.

But....getting shot sort of takes the fun away from that revenge play.

Put your MIL in the blind and have them shoot her. Two birds, one stone, etc.

  12. This movie is trash.

It's a heart warming story of growing up in a trash family that will not love you unless you play a snap in pointless clean up duty for Notre Dame and you do and the end. That's your whole fucking life.

    Get lost.
