Is this a feature or a bug? Do you know the backstory? At Hamilton Cove.

There's a boat sunk on the rocks out front of Key West Bight right now as well. I should go try and get a picture

I hated that little shit but no one could hold his jock.

I was definitely a hater, but I kind of grew to respect him later in his career. I was at Budds Creek for the MXoN in 2007, his last race, and seeing how fast he was in person was staggering. He had to give up his gate to Villopoto in the first moto, got wiped out at the start, then proceeded to pass everyone but two dudes.

Aside from his own music, I believe he had a fairly profound influence on the direction of the Beatles’ later years.

They has a symbiotic relationship for sure.

Yeah, thinking about it, the sitting still comment was probably not accurate. In my mind, I was thinking sailing is chilling and casually cruising through the water.  But, can certainly see there is more to it than that and  it can get hairy dealing with the elements and can definitely respect it takes a lot of experience and skill.

Absolutely the racing seems like a lot of work and could easily produce my favorite drug.  It also seems very expensive and time consuming.

(Since we are talking about passions/hobbies, just felt like writing this next part to share in case it interests anybody.  Would be interested in reading y’all’s version of this)

For me, I like the smell of hot brakes, fuel burning, a seat with no padding while locked in with a harness so you are part of the car, setting up the car, balancing just beyond the cars grip, diabolical qualifying laps where you get out shaking a little and think “holy shit”, laps where all sections come together, breaking into a new second you haven’t seen before, not letting the predictive lap time fuck you up, pit crew telling you what you need on a lap during qualifying and making it happen, beating the people that trained you, the nervousness when gridding up not knowing what kind of shape things will be in when you return, the way your heart pumps when watching the shoulder/elbow for the flag to drop, the initial roar when everyone steps on it, surviving that first turn, reminding yourself to breathe, drink water and lightly grip the steering wheel, the sound two cars make when they are inches apart leaving a corner and the engines sing in harmony, setting up a pass several turns before you intend to pass, defending a corner, perfectly exiting a corner counter steering and  there was no more track to use on track out and there is probably a little dust behind you, standing on the brakes because you came in too hot but you made it, forcing an error on the person in front of you because you are pressuring them, flashing your lights at the person you are pressuring, seeing the white flag, the sigh of relief when you pass the checkered flag and let off the gas, the feeling during a cool down lap especially if you won or placed, pulling back into pits in one piece, comparing notes and sharing stories with the other racers afterwards especially if there was a close battle.  And, most of all, that 30 minutes to an hour and a half where you can think about nothing else other than what you are doing at that exact second and maybe the next few seconds.  It’s the only thing I have found so far that calms me down and clears my head.  And, this is from an amateur.  Just like golf, the pros are on a different level.

I have no patience whatsoever and sitting still and I don’t go well together

One thing I can say is there is not a lot of sitting still when racing boats. It's a pretty much constant movement to keep weight in the right place to the point of annoyance almost if you weren't focused on winning. One thing I am actually a little ambivalent about is modern raceboats are requiring an athleticism to a degree that is almost becoming disqualifying for a good number of people and I'm not sure that is a good thing.

The thing about sailing that I think needs to be experienced to really get is the sheer power of harnessing nature, the wind and the waves. The loads can be extremely high, thousands and even tens of thousands of pounds on lines. Its a lot of technique and knowledge to manage them, you can't just brute force it. The knock on from that is its a lot more intense, going 10 knots in a sailboat is like 20 in a powerboat. Going 20 is like 50 in a powerboat. And when you are going 20, that is in conditions and sea state that is starting to get pretty hairy.

I left the house feeling cold and anxious not confident unsure. I stepped off the boat confident, clear of mind, refreshed, smile on my face. “Conquering” the elements is good for the soul.  I was still cold, even colder but a hot bath feeling like I did something noteworthy was incredible.

That is badass my friend, I'm pumped for you!

Morning sail, 20 knots gusts to 30 knots. Reefed quite a bit. Cold (high 30s low 40s). But a really great day. Hauled ass at times. Knocked the rust off. Talked through high wind situations. Navigated well, avoided accidental jibes. Chicken jibed once that was a nice little trick, had some nice runs. Dialed it in. Got more comfortable with heeling. Solid day.

What did you sail today troph?

Heading to Ft Lauderdale Wednesday for KW race, looking forward to some warm weather and getting on the water.

We’ve looked at several that were out the door under $200k. Wife was convinced that was what she wanted next, I finally said no. Most of my offices are in smaller towns and it felt like a little much for her to be showing up in.

Right on. I honestly haven't looked in ages, once I lost interest I quit paying attention, so I'm out of touch on them. They were probably like 125 the last time I checked.

On the plus side for atxracer, he saved some money over the 707 at least.

or me, pretty much the exact same. I think it’s because it now has a stigma of a soccer mom grocery getter car.

Yeah, I think just the ubiquitousness of them now is probably the main thing. They used to be much more of a novelty.

Surprised she didn't like the front end of the Aston, to me they are by far the prettiest. Related funny story, my previous DBX had been here for about a week, and my wife had been griping about spending so much on a car, and she walked by tye front window, paused, and goes, "that is a damn good looking car". May be the biggest win of my marriage lol.

Never have been in love with these but it’s actually very nice.  Drives firm, sounds great and has plenty of power.

I really wanted a G Wagen for the longest time, and then one day I just didn't anymore.

The only real drama about him back then was Nicole Sherzinger bullshit. McLaren could have won the championship in 2012 if they didn't have reliability issues. Awesome car, awesome team. Most McLaren fans were disappointed but also thought he might have been making a mistake. Then the turbo era hit.

Accurate. In hindsight we may have been a bit off.

Still can't believe Hamilton to Ferrari. That's wild to me.

For those that were fans back then... what was the feeling with he jumped from McLaren to Mercedes?

Fuck it, not worth the drama.
