  1. Gattica was all about the 'quality' of one's genes determining their life path, their tier of jobs, tier of mates etc...  The scary part is not LE agencies having access to DNA to solve crimes, but insurance companies downgrading you and your spawn because of a real or perceived flaw from a DNA marker.  Oh you have that marker?  well you and yours pay double for coverage.

Say they test rapy priests and child predators and develop a marker for predisposed child molestation.  Now school districts/child care facilities etc.. limit innocent people from pursuing jobs in those fields because of a DNA marker.  Same thing could be done for all sorts of jobs.

Then there is also the 23andme merge with Tinder.  Gattica also had potential couples see their genetic 'rating'.  So swipe left for predisposition for heart disease or cancer or a detrimental dormant gene.

    Texas EggFest

Wife and I both big fans of attending this--all you can eat and drink, usually 30-40 teams cooking up their best and attendees walk around eating samples.

Plus the demonstrations are worthwhile, and you can usually snag some free rub (yes, that's what my mom said to you last night).

don't they sell the eggs used there at a discount?  maybe i am making that up.

for long cooks i run the bbq stoker for fan/temp management.  I need one of those cactus burner/super torches, though.

after my platesetter broke into unusable pieces, got something like this RandB1_compact.jpg?v=1498682427 and like it a lot better.

I've never gotten the hang of getting the temp steady. It's just a constant tinkering with the air vents to get it in the right range and keep it there. Then to add more wood chunks, you have to remove the meat, grate, and heat deflector. It's a real pain in the ass.

should be able to load a kamodo/bge with enough lump charcoal and a few wood chunks to last for an 18hour cook.  the heavy ceramic enclosure keeps the temp w/o the need for a lot of fuel.

But you should check out the temp regulators as that would solve one of your biggest headaches.

Couple of guys at work have these and swear by them. The idea of setting it and walking away is very appealing. I've found that I just don't have the patience to tend to my current kamado-style setup all day long.

what are you having to adjust on a kamodo constantly?  I've got a bge and they should be pretty similar.  if you do an add on fan manager like a guru or bbq-stoker, it's pretty much on auto pilot for overnight cooks.  I've got the bbq-stoker and still beg off to go check on the egg, but it's really just to get outside and drink another beer.

A buddy brought a traeger out on a Y-guides campout and we did not get the grease drain tilted properly and the grease did not run out of the box, but collected on the base and eventually caught fire and promptly caused the unit to shut off.  Once we got it situated the right way, it cranked out a really good brisket.

Kids have T-ball game at 9AM.

8:35 AM - Wife begins the 20 minute process of getting our daughter's hair brushed out

8:36 AM - I grab the girl, give her a pony tail and take the two kids to the game.

9:15 AM - Wife arrives to the game.

truth.  we arrive to most games in separate cars.

  8. wish he could have gone more than 5.  still nibbling a lot, but he was not not missing up in the zone.  Everything was down.

Freaking Odor just hates staying on the bases once he gets there.  Making Lucroy look like Pudge throwing people out.  but hello win column and all that plus breaking the unbelievable losing streak out there.

  9. Back when I was picking beans in Guatemala, we used to make fresh coffee, right off the trees I mean. That was good. This is shit, but hey, I'm in a police station...

great thread.  props to those with the big brains dropping some knowledge.
