I will never forget when he noticed I was a lefty and told me that he was right handed, but was a lefty as a small kid, and his parents would slap his left hand every time he used it, and forced him into being a righty. He was a grown man, he was at least 40, and even in 7th grade I could hear his resentment towards his parents that they didn't allow him to be what nature made him.

One fall afternoon walking home from school, I took a slight detour and found myself standing under a bridge smoking a cigarette I stole from my neighbors parents. It was a Benson & Hedges because they were sophisticated like that. Emotionally hollow, I had friends, I played sports and yet no one knew me. I cried as I sank down against the concrete wall until I slid all the way into the ground. Sitting in the dark, my back up against a cold concrete wall, I sank further. There were the faint sounds of cars going by above. Finally my external reality matched my inside, in a dark, cold, lonely place with the world just going by. Then I said it. 11 years old, “I want to be a girl.” Before the Southern Baptists come out and scream, “see, it’s a choice!!” I must say those are the words I muttered at a time when I had no idea what was what. There was no medical protocol, and if I said it to an adult I would either be patted on the head or sent for psych evaluation at the hospital. I finished my cigarette and put it out and walked home. A latch key kid at the time I was able to maintain the silence and solitude for a few more hours. Nothing had changed. Weeks maybe months later, I was in my room thumbing through the pages of my wall to wall set of encyclopedia Britannica volumes and by happenstance I was in the “T” volume. Usually stopping on countries to read and learn about their geography I just kept flipping pages until my eye caught a quarter page entry for “transsexuals”. I read about Christine Jorgensen who was “once a man and underwent sex reassignment surgery to become a woman” and I immediately knew who I was. I found the light! I kept reading and the last paragraph said most “transsexuals” live in big cities like New York or San Fransisco and then the light flickered and disappeared. This unlucky suburban trans kid from Texas had no real way to make it to New York or San Fransisco as an 11 year old. So I closed the book, and cried myself to sleep. I didn’t tell anyone - not a soul - for nearly two more decades.
that’s your typical gender dysphoria diagnosis more than 20 years ago.
I remember a similar experience (minus the smoking), except with a human sexuality book when I was 12 that I found on my mom's bookshelf. I stumbled across the section on homosexuality and my little mind was fucking blown. But I was in small town west Texas, where that shit just wasn't ok, so I hid myself until I could get to a bigger city. Then the first friends I made at UT made it clear it wasn't ok, and I decided I'd rather have friends that be my true self and kept right on hiding it. Like you, my drive for being alive was the only thing that kept me going through some of those times. It is not a pleasant experience when you flat out are not allowed to be who you are.

There are words for transgenders in the Americas that are older than when Columbus first landed in America, what are you talking about this is all new?

I was a child myself, and have very clear memories of the internal battles I went through to try not to be what I was, and very clear memories of the emotional toll that took on me, and in fact, how I'm still paying that toll today. So yes, I have a very good understanding of how kids in these situations operate, because one of those kids was me.

So I mean I understand the thought process of the guy here. I want to be a lazy fuck when I come home from work, too. But how in the fuck does the woman go along with this outlandish behavior?

Doesn't the last sentence explain it?

so I'm not a member of the community but I'd bet my mortgage he is not winning over drag queens with a twitter battle. but members of the drag community tend to be cantankerous and rebellious (can i say bitchy?) so i don't doubt that there are a few loling at him.
I'm no drag queen, but I can appreciate a good burn, even if that burn is coming from a villain. I'm still going to want the good drag queens to win overall, but Imma still point and laugh when that villain wins a round.
For instance, my favorite burn ever on Drag Race came from a villain. I wanted her to fail, but she definitely slayed in that round. Her victim got the last laugh, because she ended up winning the whole thing that season.

I never made an argument that a cop shouldn't carry a gun. I was responding to your argument. You didn't say cops getting shot at, you said cops getting shot. Like I said, your example sucked for the point you were trying to make.
To reiterate, I only made an argument that your example for why cops should carry guns was terrible, which it was.
For the record, I do think that cops should carry guns. I'm generally ok with gun ownership. In fact, I even have guns in my own house. So whatever it was you thought I was arguing, hopefully the first two paragraphs are clear enough that my response was about the quality of your argument. That's it. Improve your arguments and you might be able to persuade more people to agree with you. And as a bonus lesson, if you read what people are actually writing and not what you are scared they might have meant to write, it will be good for your blood pressure and make people more willing to have a real conversation with you.

The point is they needed them to respond to a genuine threat. Or are insinuating that if the cops weren’t carrying guns then the drivers or passengers in the stopped cars wouldn’t have shot at them?
Nah, you can’t possibly be suggesting that. That would be asinine.
Umm, if they got shot, they weren't using their guns to respond to a genuine threat. Their guns may have been on their person but so was a hole where a bullet went in.
My point was that your particular example was not helpful to your point that cops need guns to keep bad guys from shooting them, because the specific example you used was in fact a situation where bad guys did use guns to shoot the good guys with guns. The good guy's gun was not a deterrent to the bad guy and furthermore did not keep the good guy safe against the bad guy. Go back to the drawing board and think of other examples to make your point, because that one was terrible.

Ever seen a cop get shot by someone in a car they pulled over on the road? That cop shouldn’t be allowed to carry?
Yes. And those cops were all carrying guns. I'm not sure what point you are trying to make.

I’m not a doctor. I don’t have degree in epidemiology. I don’t have time to wade into the current debate of CDC vaccine recommendations, more so, I don’t have the foundational knowledge base to understand either side of the argument with any usefulness. I’m sure there are disagreements within the field, hell, there are still some disagreements within climate science communities, the usefulness of the Oxford comma, and whether beans belong in chili. Science, like all things, isn’t perfect. There is nothing wrong with questioning science, but it should be questioned by other scientists, not by message board heroes. There nothing wrong with discussing it either, but just to be clear, everyone here can go find a link to support their argument, because again, we don’t have the knowledge base to understand what we are reading, and how it relates to the million other studies that have been performed.
Now you listen here motherfucker. There is no goddamn debate to be had on whether or not beans belong in chili. You shut your whore mouth with that nonsense.

But the target demographic for who buys Teslas does know what's going on. That can't make Tesla shareholders happy.

I've heard one of the bills is going to charge an extra tax to any establishment who hosts drag queen shows. So yay, the scourge of drag queens entertaining an audience of people who voluntarily show up to be entertained is about to be over!!

Umm. What is this magic and where can my friend find more?
Also, I like museums, but I want to speed walk through and see the 10 things in there that are interesting to me, and then sit out in the lobby/park/whatever nearby and wait for the hubby who will read every line of every placard of every exhibit and take 3 hours. I bring a book and have a great time that way. Its even better if there's a place next door selling beer.

Clear at the center security checkpoint is still on the opposite side of the Pre lane. Silly but minor.
The Global Entry facial recog is pretty nice and is super fast. If we're going to be tracked we might as well get some benefits. If only there was a way to stay inside security if you only have carry on bags. DFW had this briefly.
Or at least add a precheck line if you have to go through that transit security control. Usually when we go through that, we just exit the terminal like we're at our destination then join the clear line on the outside, but last time we came through, there wasn't an option to leave the secure area after we dropped off our checked bags.

Trump must’ve finally heard the bit from Stern about how Stern loved him on his show because he was so fascinatingly narcissistic and unhinged. And stern was shocked when anyone actually took Trump seriously.
