  1. Holy cow, almost everyone in this board and other boards not associated with OSU wanted Urban fired for covering up the domestic abuse by Zach Smith. Did we just want him out of OSU so that we could hire him? Yikes!
  2. Why did OSU force Urban out if he was the best thing since sliced bread? If you don't think UT will steer clear of someone like him, you probably didn't go there or don't know our history. While we have some boosters who want to win at all costs, majority of our boosters care more about our reputation because most of them amassed wealth not from sports but from using the degree.
  3. I still remember Tom's first PC at Texas. Towards the end Bianco said something like "last question," and Tom immediately snapped at him. He said, "I will tell you when it's time for the last question" or something like that. We have come a long way from that.
  4. Trying to keep Michelle happy while Tom is snorting coke is really, really hard.
  5. A&M was in much better shape than Texas when Jombo took over and yet, he hasn't been able to do much with it. Jimbo is a washed up coach by now doing just enough to milk Aggy.
  6. CDC won't fire Tom this year, so this whole discussion is hypothetical and I remember Dick Thaler telling our MBA class at Chicago never to have hypothetical arguments because even if you win the argument, there is no real reward.
  7. Yes, I agree he is better, so is Nick Saban. My conviction is that Texas will never hire him because of the optics. Also, he must have a sour taste from being let go by Ohio State for what he perceives to have been initiated by Tom. If he wants to coach again, he can find other suitors. There was a rumor that the new USC AD wanted to hire him but was told no by the admin. If you accept the above, which I do, then I look for the next best thing. Kyle Whittingham is a proven coach and if you watch Utah, you will see how disciplined they are. You may not know much about him because he is a low key guy and is not constantly whoring himself to see if there are suitors from big time programs. I think these are the guys tend to do well. They make their current employers happy, so it takes an effort to hire them away, and if you can do that, he will make the new employer happy as well.
  8. Utah is not a G5 program. They compete at a high level at a P5 conference. Don't kid yourself. Which guys with a ring that's not washed up is available? Just because Urban is not coaching, doesn't mean he is available. Bob Stoops is "available" too. I think it's a pipe dream to think Urban will ever coach at Texas and there are plethora of reasons for that. Yes, our fanbase is desperate for someone like him but it's not going to happen. You have your convictions and I have mine. Let's just leave it at that.
  9. He is making $4M a year and can make north of $6M at Texas and recruit at the highest level to compete for national championships. I think most D1 coaches like money and championships. Not saying he would come here but it's definitely as far fetched as some of you make out to be. Getting one of the best in the biz is never going to be easy.
  10. I didn't realize Utah was a mid major G5. You are not going to get the guys that have rings unless they are washed up like Mack or Jimbo. However, you can find coaches like Kyle Whittingham coaching at a high level at a P5 program that lacks resources and money.
  11. Nick Saban is 68, Orgeron is 58, Bill snyder coached till he was 78. When you are at the top of your game, age doesn't matter. He is worth the look because he has been consistently good for so long at a place not known to be a recruiting hotbed.
  12. If USC doesn't get him this offseason, Kyle Whittingham from Utah should be on our short list next year if we were to fire Herman. The guy is a great coach.
  13. When in doubt, go with statistics. People who are pointing out some examples of successes here and there by "small time" coaches, need to realize that those things are rare. Also, I don't get why people are so enamored with Matt Campbell. Just because he has had some success at Iowa State and has beaten a few top tier teams doesn't mean he can have sustained success at the top. You want someone who has proven that they can do it at an elite level for a sustained period of time. You can still get it wrong but the chances of getting it wrong diminishes quite a bit.
  14. When Herman emphasized "alignment" in his staff hiring, he meant "yes-men."
  15. Perhaps momentum heading into the off season is overrated. Didn't we have momentum heading into the last offseason?
  16. He likes to look up to coaches who have had spectacular fall from grace. This is going to make me feel warm and fuzzy through this winter.
  17. There has got to be a picture or text or something CDC can buy from Zach Smith or have him release to the media. Then you have your reason to fire with cause.
  18. Given how vindictive Tom Herman is, I worry he will burn Texas to the ground if he senses he is about to be fired.
  19. This! His "teaching" methods might have worked on 2 star players who felt lucky to be on a D1 team but won't work on 4,5 stars who have a ton of options. Find another way to motivate or you are going to lose the team.
  20. We had a good gameplan but we couldn't execute.
  21. Send this to Mutha Histla and ask her to print T-shirts and hats for the Texas Tech game.
  22. You should call CDC and he will tell you how to feel.
  23. I am frustrated with our inability to conduct a well thought out coaching hire in any revenue sports.
  24. I think you miss the point of my original post. Yes, Rhule has done a tremendous turnaround, so did Herman last year. Herman hasn't been able to carry over his success when his team was expected to be good. My point was that these small time coaches do well when they are underdogs or flying under the radar. When everyone expects you to win every week, can you keep it up?
