    Mexican

of course we all love tex-mex but I have been pretty impressed with the mexican food scene in austin. wondering if there are some spots that are not on my radar, and what other folks thoughts are and favorite items at the places i did know. el naranjo - this is a place i would have eaten at far more often but for the location on rainey. now that they are closing the rainey location down and have just opened up the new spot on south lamar, it will be in my regular rotation. went for dinner last week and was just an infinitely more pleasant experience. we had the fundido with huitlacoche with corn tortillas and i had the pastel azteca with chorizo as the entree. both were amazing. duck breast with black mole is another one of my favorites, but definitely need to try more of the menu items ATX cocina - i avoided this place for a while because the name is kind of stupid, but once i gave in and tried it, i was pretty impressed and have been several times. “modern mexican.” the roast chicken with white mole is one of my favorites, and is a good dish to split between two people as the entree (especially if you're like us - one likes dark meat and one likes white ). the whole fish entree is really good too. “salsa sampler” usually seems like kind of a rip off item, but i think its worth it here for the tortillas comedor - been for dinner three times. masa spaetzl is our favorite dish here. bone marrow tacos are good, but seem overpriced for what you get. the fish is the only entree we have tried, and have just rotated among several of the small dishes to share and have really enjoyed doing it that way. the monster pork chop with mole looks legit though. nixta tacqueria - tried this on opening day. line way out the door and i’m pretty sure i was the youngest person in there by 10+ years. /shrug. there are maybe 7 all tables inside. i wonder if they are going to expand into the space next door that looks to be used for storage and prep. we had the beet tostada, the “enchilada” potosino with duck fat refried black beans which were both great, and the duck confit taco. i would go back but would either get there right when it opens, or in an off-hour, until the “new place” hype dies down. fonda san miguel - i dont think i've been there in 15+ years. still worth going? el elma - been once, enjoyed it, but i can’t take a place seriously if they can’t make their own tortillas. polvo’s - been to the new downtown location twice - seems like an upgrade from the south 1st location. enchiladas are good. enchiladas de la casa remind me of las manitas so i go just for that. el meson - judgeroy turned me on to this place when it was just the original shack out by the airport. i will still stop at that one sometimes when i am over that way, but the new one on south lamar is more convenient, and nicer, if not lacking some of the authenticity of the original. tinga, pibil, and pastor are my go-tos. suerte - goat barbacoa is worth the trip. seriously. what else?
  3. Republicans absolutely love this kind of naked corruption because (a) it “totally drives the libs crazy!!!l” and (b) they are fundamentally dishonest. any (now former) Republicans with any amount of integrity and honesty have left the party. all remaining members, voters, and supporters are abject party over country failures. they should never get a pass. even long after Trump is gone.
  4. Indeed. And so do Republicans.
  5. "Donald Trump is smart, and really, he is doing a great job." - @Johnny Sack and all Republicans
  6. Republicans must be so proud right now.
  7. those dudes are straight up morons. couple good ones I’ve caught from them while scrolling through the stations: ”there’s no way these polls are legit because they didn’t ask everyone in America” “global warming is a liberal hoax because Obama just bought a place on Martha’s Vineyard. that’s at sea level. would he do that if global warming was real?”
  8. “yeah but it drives the liberals craaazyyyy tee hee!” -Republicans
  9. Speaking of, where is @Johnny Sack these days?
  10. that would have been better if the maga traitors were pelted with tomatoes and rotten garbage as they walked by
  11. this is our concern, dude. remember the Mueller Report, the one that clearly laid out crimes committed by the President of the United States? the one that is in everyone’s rear view mirror right now? i remember that one. pretty good chance this will all be behind us and everyone will be worked up about the next set of crimes and treason that will have no real consequences within the next several weeks. next.
  12. same, on all counts. i mean, on the one hand, we have ... polls. i seem to recall polls telling me that hillary clinton would be elected in a landslide. on the other hand, we have facts, and evidence - all of which points to years of Republicans consistently - in fact, at every single opportunity - putting party over country and never, ever doing the right thing. Republican elected officials have had dozens upon dozens of instances to stand up and say, "this is wrong, enough is enough, Trump needs to go - the country needs to come first" when presented with overwhelming evidence of criminal activity and treason committed by Trump, his family, and his administration. so far, they are batting .000. forgive me for doubting that they will all of a sudden start stroking base hits on the reg in terms of doing the right thing for the country. if they do, i will happily eat crow and celebrate it. i've been on record for some time now saying Trump should have been removed the minute he stepped off the stage in Helsinki.
  13. that's true. how many Republicans do you think would favor impeachment and removal from office - currently, or ever? i would say that is (and will be) somewhere between 0% and 1% as to both.
  14. public sentiment in favor of impeachment will never get to a level high enough within the Republican Party to make this an issue.
  15. and then every single one of them will vote for him again.
  16. Trump and his entire family and administration should be removed by force now* *actually, a long time ago
  17. not probably, but absolutely
  18. this is what "doing a great job" and "great leadership" looks like to @Johnny Sack and Republicans
  19. and an entire political party with tens of millions of members who are complicit.
  20. so unfair! DO SOMETHING!
  21. publicly attacking a sitting Republican Senator and calling for his impeachment, merely for offering some mild criticism, would be the perfect opportunity for Republicans with any shred of decency and integrity whatsoever to speak up and say enough is enough. oh.
  22. spot on. hatred of others is absolutely at the center of the Republican ethos
  23. go to any gathering of Republicans, anywhere. that’s where you’ll see them.
  24. those who make the conscious decision to support racists, felons, and traitors need to be called out for what and who they are. we are well past the point where it is acceptable for anyone to hide behind the "one issue voter" or "likes paying lower taxes" or "doesn't pay enough attention to politics" or "is brainwashed by Fox" excuses for supporting treason and the subversion of democracy, and people need to stop giving them a pass. too bad if that offends you.
