  1. I'm just of the, seemingly unpopular opinion, that we meddle too much in other country's business. I'm for spending less on military and more on social programs. I'm a veteran, but don't think we should be the world's police force.
  2. Yes, but at some point, their vision will crash headlong into reality. The Taliban is basically begging for tourism at the moment. And they are having trouble getting foreign money because their most valuable export (rare earth minerals) will require lots of investment, meaning companies will need to see stability before going in. The oil fields in Iraq, for example, would require less upfront infrastructure investment because they already exist, so there is an easier path to monetization. If the US and Europe want the oil they will be able to get it, provided they play nice. But the egos (crusaders gonna crusade) will likely prevail and around and around we go.
  3. I don't buy that, because if the caliphate wants to actually govern, they will need money and let's face it, aside from camel milk, oil is really the only option to put money in the treasury.
  4. Being called a moron by @ztejas is like being called a sheep fucker by an aggy.
  5. This is where US policy loses me. I'm honestly not sure why I should care if they form a caliphate.
  6. Does this mean Beyonce is back on the market? Asking for a friend.
  7. Define "scary", and for whom?
  8. It was before my time so I don't really have a visceral reaction one way or the other. But in general, assassinations don't shock me, and sometimes they are necessary.
  9. So you're giving him credit for authorizing a decrease in Americans in Vietnam after he'd sent 16,000 there to support a dictator who thumbed his nose at the a Geneva Accords and installed himself (with the help of the US) as president of "South Vietnam" instead of holding free and fair elections aimed at unifying the country, because they knew Ho Chi Minh would win. Ho Chi Minh wanted to be a US ally in the region, but he was ...gasp, a communist, so he had to be defeated. How'd that work out? Fuck Kennedy.
  10. You're right. Not the right thread, but in a word, yes
  11. My point is why get involved at all? Just like communism, I couldn't give a rats ass if islamism takes over Syria, Iraq or any other ME country. That seems like a "them" problem. Islamists only care about America in as much as we interfere with the ME. Let them have it as far as I'm concerned. They'd 100% still sell us oil.
  12. I'd argue they didn't get a chance because they were busy fighting the US. Either way, by the US fighting the jihadists, Assad could focus on fighting the sectarians. Moral of the story is that we should mind our own business.
  13. Putin needs to show other loyalist that he has their backs.
  14. Not to mention Kennedy didn't exactly walk the walk when it came to Vietnam. Fuck him.
  15. I'm betting he is in Russia. He's been a loyal Putin ally.
  16. They've always been weak. If not for the US intervention against ISIS, et al, Syria would have fallen years ago.
  17. Come on Ponies...don't fuck this shit up
  18. Courtasy of the fightin' texas aggys
