I'm sure a lot of other assistant coaches own their homes, and even for short-timers owning a home in Austin isn't exactly a bad investment.  So I don't read much into that aspect.

For sure. I had a lengthy conversation with the guy. He was surprisingly candid about a lot of things. Basically said he might go back to the NFL at some point, but he and his wife love Austin and he expects to be here a while unless something crazy presents itself. Obviously buying a home in Austin doesn’t make it an anchor, though.

I would agree.  Regarding RB, though, unless the NFL calls on Drayton and he really wants to go back to the professional level, I see him staying at Texas.  And Giles' job security seems tied to his coaching notwithstanding his recruiting shortcomings.  But what the fuck do I know?

Drayton has said he wouldn’t rule out another job in the NFL. He also owns his home in Lakeway, so I know he likes it in Austin and doesn’t have plans to bolt.

Yes. If anyone on the $9.95 front claims otherwise, they are either uninformed or spinning. We’d like to have him.

I tried to scour the thread to find any positive news on Henry. Too much of a beating. Did I miss something?

    He played Guard this year.

His 2018 hudl shows him primarily at RT, but also some clips at G and LT. Versatility is always good. He’s a hell of a road grater. Nasty. He does lean forward a little in pass pro, but looks solid. I think Hand will be able to work with him.

And in regards to OL, Garth needs to be in the class, looks like the only LT of the whole bunch.  Lindberg is a G/RT.

Is Majors projected as an interior guy?  Center?

Damien George IMO is a RT.

Is Lindberg just not very athletic? 6’6” 306 are good measurables for LT. Obviously he needs the feet, flexibility, etc., to go with those numbers. I guess I should watch his film...

Yep, the players sure loved Charlie and were so sad when he was fired.........

Exactly. The winning coaches who are “loved” are the ones whose players run the team (Mack, Carrol, etc.) They’re the ones who eventually lose control and implode. If everyone loves your coach, he’s doing it wrong. When you look at the greatest coaches of all time, they’re usually dicks.

My friend, Scott Schrader recorded this on Wednesday.

Bru committed to USC on his official visit, but he did love Texas.  Contrary to what that closing guy was saying, the players and recruits love Clay Helton....while some of your Texas players were not too complimentary about yours, just didn’t want to say that till confirmed by several sources.

    Hook ‘Em!

It’s better to be feared than loved.

Meh, at this point I think we should just have a Be Like Dickerson message for top recruits. Fuck it, take their shit, then sign with us. That way you get paid and the program you're going to has no risk of penalties. What are the SEC schools going to do, turn themselves in?

I see where you’re going with that, but Dickerson’s ultimate program of choice definitely risked and incurred some pretty harsh penalties.

He's nothing like Shepard, though. I think Hookfin is truly indecisive. This has all come at him in the last couple of months.

Exactly. This is one of few instances where I think the kid would be best served to postpone. None of his offers are getting pulled.

I'd say it depends on the school/coaches. Lots of coaches are absolute morons. Many of them don't know much about the position they are coaching or even the game of football itself. Certainly, lots of coaches do.

That’s why kids at schools like Westlake or Highland Park can dominate better athletes. Westlake’s coaches max out player potential and win with better technique and discipline.

Maybe someone started asking questions about how frequently he beat the shit out of his ex-wife.

Maybe by “retirement” he meant pen time. His tweet must be suggesting he got probation and batterer’s intervention classes instead of time, so he’ll be back next year.

can you procure said texts? the reason i ask is because i feel like injecting ourselves into this game, as a unit, would be a good idea. meaning, a surlyhorns twatter account the takes our collective genius along with our connections and starts making waves in this college football landscape.

If someone wants to spend the time and money to dig up Fatty’s divorce records, I know he divorced his second wife in Fort Worth in 2002. The sealed records won’t be available. That wife’s name was Tawna. Don’t know her predecessors info. Probably wouldn’t be too hard to find.

I was very close to a divorce, couldn't be much closer, so this hits close to home

Did yours involve sealed court records and non-disclosure agreements? And a beaten ex-wife who was once a cheerleader at the school you coached at (Utah State) when you started banging her in 1992? Of course, you’d need to have been married to another wife, whom you were also beating, when you started plowing this one. Then you’d leave the second battered ex-wife for your current punching bag. That’s the rumor, anyway...

That’s funny and all, but GP lives in a glass house. If he wants to throw rocks, maybe he wouldn’t mind if some of his divorce dirt started creeping out. Maybe he and Zach Smith can start spending time hanging out. Arrogant asshole.

I’ve heard the same from some people very close to the divorce. Like, they couldn’t be much closer. Your story absolutely checks out. I can’t believe it hasn’t gotten out. Absolutely no bullshit.

and Cain is sitting there saying " i dont want to be in a 3 RB class" when my 2 main choices have 2 RB commits?  have fun with that son.

Knowing how Drayton operates, he’ll probably tell the running backs where they each rank in his evaluations and let things sort themselves out. The ranking will be:

    1) Sanders; 2) Cain; and 3) Brown.

Cain already knows Drayton has him behind Sanders. His interest in Texas may mean Cain knows we aren’t getting Sanders. It may also mean that we’re getting Sanders, but Cain is comfortable knowing he’s rated above Brown in a three man class. I doubt LSU is being that transparent.

***Sounds like things were going well with 2019 RB, Noah Cain. Sources say it’s going to be hard for Noah to say no to someone like Stan Drayton. Apparently, Drayton is somewhat of an uncle/father type figure to Noah.

Source also said, “Noah is at home in Austin. A lot of familiar faces”.

Back in April, Drayton told me, “yeah, we’re gonna get Cain. I really want his teammate, Sanders. He (Sanders) is the best back in the country.” He also told me the two teammates appreciated the direct approach Drayton takes in their recruitment. This was the same time he told me Wilson was going to Ohio State.

Obviously, a lot of time has passed since April, so I don’t know where Dayton’s confidence is today. Taking Brown may have affected the outlook. I just know he was very matter of fact about getting Cain in April.
