To this year:
"Our yards per play ranking is #76, points per play is 51st, offensive S&P+ ranking is 47th, and offensive FEI is 38th"
Those numbers appear to be quite an improvement across the board.... so far.
But "quite" is not our standard.
I’d say that’s unequivocally a huge improvement across the board. Maybe not where we want to be ultimately, but definitely moving in the right direction.

To be fair, everyone and their mother knew that our coach was going to get shit-canned when Dobbins went to OSU. I can at least understand his decision. Now, Garrett Wilson? If he ends up at OSU, then fuck that guy.
Wilson is an Ohio kid. He was always going to Ohio state. When he was at Texas on his official, he kept talking to Drayton about Ohio State. Drayton and the rest of the staff knew the kid was tOSU bound long before the announcement. They had already moved on.

In Tulsa for work today. So much salt about Texas on the radio. In a nutshell - "OSU has the potential to pull off a big win, but is it that big a win? Texas isn't as good as it's ranking and OU is still better."
Need a TTLP sticker for the rental car.

I’m glad that’s the prevailing attitude up there. Fuck those inbreeders.

Secondary is one of those position groups in which players rarely come in and "get it" right off the bat. DBs almost always get burned a few times before they get smart and learn to cover properly (or don't and get benched). They have to adapt to the speed and physicality of the college game. Safeties have it a little easier than corners because they usually have more cushion to work with. Good ones pick it up pretty quickly. It's just the nature of the position.
And: Kris Boyd is an outlier. He chooses to live on the edge. I think that is much more a reflection of his attitude and mindset than his ability.
Yeah, I think kids get to college and realize receivers will beat them with route-running, body position, qb timing, etc. It’s not always good enough to be a good athlete. You kinda have to sink or swim and learn to watch film.
As far as Boyd goes, he’s come a LONG way, but you’re right: he’s just aggressive by nature. He’s a plus athlete with plenty of ability and frequently is able to recover when he gets beat on double moves. His style is boom or bust, but even when he’s beat, he manages to get in a position to make the tackle, even if he gives up the completion. I hope the other guys will make similar strides with time and experience.

He also played in the Tulsa game in place of Davis and wasn't great then, either.
Correct. He got beat in the end zone twice, I believe. The way I remember it, one was caught for 6, and the other was dropped.
I could be confusing one of those plays with a Thompson play, though.

my question is when does it go away? 10 wins? Conference Championship? MNC? Never? not that if fucking matters though.
My guess is it will be like Clemson trying to get rid of the “Clemsoning” verb that followed them around until they started beating teams they were expected to beat consistently and winning conference/national championships. And to be fair, that should be our standard, too. So when we go multiple consecutive years without being upset by inferior competition, and when we win or play for conference championships every year, no one will have to say “Texas is back” anymore. It will be obvious and they’ll drop it.

I mean... I can't speak what happened at Joe's, but there was certainly no widespread trash throwing at the team on the field. The full game is on YouTube and you can watch the ending here:

I don't see any players or coaches reacting to anything being thrown and the announcers don't say anything. I'm not saying that not one single person in the stadium didn't throw something on the field, but there was absolutely nothing widespread
The only time I can remember even something remotely happening like that was the Bedlam 2013 game in the west end zone. But those fuckers deserved it because fuck OU.
But I will also concede it was not widespread throughout the stadium. It came from one area. Possibly students.

I’m just telling you, I was there on about the 40 yard line, maybe 25-30 rows up, and it was more than one or two bottles of water. I’m not sure which sideline I was behind. The fieldhouse/basketball arena was to my left. The trash was thrown from the seats down to my right. It was a substantial amount and lasted a few seconds. It absolutely happened. I was not yet drunk. And Joe’s happened after the game. I had one oSu guy get mildly pissed off at me for offering to buy him a beer, in addition to the late-40’s/early 50’s lady who knocked our tower of Joe’s cups all over the second floor of the joint.
But I do love me some Stillwater, and I’d say y’all’s behavior that year was out of character for your usually friendly fans. I’ve been multiple times and I have friends up there to this day that I met on road trips. I’d send my kid there, and I will vouch for y’all’s friendliness with the 07 trip as a significant outlier.

I’m telling you, they’re usually very gracious hostesses.

Great. My favorite big 12 road trip.
Did you go to the game up there in 07 when we came back from 21 down in the fourth quarter? It was something like the sixth consecutive come-from-behind win we had over them. They took it poorly. Threw trash at our team on the field. Eskimo Joe’s was not its usual welcoming environment. A middle-aged pokes fan came to our table, saw our Texas shirts, and knocked all our Joe’s cups all over the bar. Then she just ran away like an 8 year old. But I will agree it’s usually a great place.

I had to look him up because I couldn't remember what happened to him after college. He had a pretty good career in college, but did nothing in the pros or in Canada. A couple of interesting notes, Devine was only three months old when his father died in 1988 from AIDS and 11 years old when his mother also died of AIDS. He moved to Prosper, TX to live with Deion Sanders but only stayed there a couple of weeks.
Yeah, I think the kid had been bouncing around friends’ homes in south Florida and getting in trouble. Deion was trying to get him out of the environment in Miami because he was afraid the kid would end up wasting his talent. Brought the kid into his home. Came home after a couple weeks and Devine had bought a Greyhound ticket home.

The kids seemed to like it when Summy did it. Plus it’s an efficient way to get to multiple games. I don’t like that aggy did it first, but I’m cool with it.

I can tell you that Drayton was very unimpressed by the talent he had to work with last year. He targets elite backs almost exclusively, and he does well with them because he doesn’t suck their dicks. He actually coaches them up as he recruits them. He is the main reason Sanders loves us. He’s also a straight shooter. He straight up told Sanders and Cain that Sanders is his number one recruit at the position and Cain is his number two. Told them both that. Cain actually appreciated it because he’d been lied to by other programs.
I think Drayton will deliver. He’s a very good coach and recruiter. He had a dog shit offensive line last year with below average talent at RB. Ingram is hurt and on a pitch count, so I wouldn’t put his limited touches on Drayton.

I think six receivers before Bru/Wilson is a little overkill, even if one of those guys fits better on defense, but I'm just an asshole on a computer who isn't getting paid the big bucks to assemble a roster
Powell will probably play defense, so I wouldn’t count him in that six.
