  1. Herman has weak answers built on poor thinking. Imagine Tom Landry describing his offensive play calling like this coach. To me this is Charlie Redux...and we know how that ended. Were it me I would bet my five million dollar salary on my decisions on the field unless I had overwhelming evidence to defer to a subordinate.
  2. Music to my ears. Anyone who would rather make a road trip to play retarded little brother in college station as opposed to playing real teams in places across the south, midwest, pacific coast is crazy. Bring on Clemson, FSU, Miami, Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, OSU, Cal, UCLA, Stanford, and South Bend. I say scratch all teams that left the SWC or Big 12...that includes those hog humpers in Fayetteville.
  3. Intangibles for me impact much looking forward. Working in favor of Texas is the thought they might have some real tight ends to produce yards in tough situations. Something seems to be insinuated by the DC - they will increasingly use the lightning package to maximize overall team speed. I recall Jimmie Johnson once saying he didn't care if a player made a mistake if he could ultimately outrun it. It seems to me with lots of young fast guys that might prove critical against several teams - Maryland, USC, and OU come to mind. Team leadership seems better and there is depth at most positions. I am not buying yet but the team has enormous potential - as much as anyone that has hit the field since 2009. On the low side they go 7-5. On the upside they could go undefeated ( yes - undefeated), not just because of the upside but because many other teams they will face have more obstacles than they did last year - TCU, OU, USC and OSU all replace QB's. Others are having to rebuild defense. I think the biggest surprise will come against TCU and that remains the game that will define where Texas goes from there. If they can score against a defense that only gave up 19 points per game, it will say much about what to expect down the road. Also, the strength of schedule is in their favor and lends itself better for absorbing injuries later in the year. Only real reservation is the kicking game...losing their punter and not having a proven kicker may cost them at some point. All this said, one thing few people discuss is Texas kept things close in almost every game last year. For that reason, the few changes I see could be a huge difference. Unfortunately, I also bought on Charlie Strong and have never gotten over it....
  4. Its scary there are people this delusional running around. My hope is whoever posted this simply got hold of their orderly's laptop down on the funny farm for a few minutes...gotta do something between bathhouse bunny hop sessions in the state hospital showers. Very sad
  5. I grew up down the street from the stadium. It was very cool back then because they left it open to the public and kids would play on the field. For my money Rice stadium is the best place to watch football in Texas. Ironically, the best game I saw there was not Rice, but U of H when they spanked aggy when the latter was ranked top ten in the nation. I think it was 1976...Houston beat them by ten or 12 points. George Woodard was suppose to be this big bad ass - openly mocked Earl Campbell by saying the difference between he and Earl was that Campbell ran around people and he (George) ran over them...didn't happen against Houston that day. Second best game was Port Neches Groves vs SA Churchill...the latter won in the semi finals during icy ( yes "icy" ) conditions. The game was decided by a muffed punt return when one of PNG's return men dropped the ball inside his own 10 yard line. Churchill insisted on playing at Rice because PNG had dominated other games at the Dome
  6. Excellent idea....I miss the MOB....
  7. I suspect this may be a trend for players who are in the middle of the pack but also want (and have the means and intellect) to focus on their education. Given the academic competition to get into certain schools on campus (i.e. business) and the year round demands of being in the football program I can see where some sober thinking about where best to invest ones energies is a smart move. With 40 years of post college hindsight, I wish I had worked harder and focused more on school.
  8. Count me as grateful everyday Aggy is further and further in the rearview mirror. Jesus H Christ, who in their right mind would want to play retarded little brother in college station when you can play Cal in the Bay Area, Clemson, FSU, Penn State, Michigan, Ohio State, Miami, Notre Dame etc....etc... seriously. There is nothing more depressing than going to a game in Aggy. In fact, I can't think of a worse place to go - for any reason.
