Desmond Howard picked JJ McCarthy as the most NFL ready player in the draft and also as rookie of the year. Homer idiot.

Herbie had AD as ROTY fwiw (not much).

Just when I thought I couldn’t take any more Kurt Warner, I saw this post.

  3. I’m pretty new to the tortas game. What are some good spots?

Staggered over to Tacos El Bigotes yesterday.  Got three quesabirria and a trompo all the way.   Very tasty.   It was very crowded.  The guy making the birria tacos was pumping them out quick.  The corn tortilla could have been crisper and the cheese spilling out at the edges needed to be carmelized a bit more.  Maybe at a slower hour  the tacos could have had  a chance to set up right.   Anyhow, it was good.

How’s the al pastor? Probably my favorite taco.

This is nuts. ESPN just said the first 6 picks could be QBs. Every team is chasing the Texans model of drafting a QB resulting in overnight success.

Somewhat agree. Nix is first round reach and the only system he could plausibly succeed in Sean Payton’s offense. The Broncos mortgaging th farm to move up for Nix would be high comedy.

The Patriots drafting JJ at 3 and repeating the Mac Jones mistake would be awesome. I’m here for it.

I think Penix will be good. I know multiple knee surgeries, but the bionic man Taysom Hill is still in the league.

FWIW, according to the value chart our 3rd rounder would be able to upgrade our higher 2nd round pick to #29 (Detroit). Both of our 2nd round picks would get us to #22 (Philadelphia). If somehow Byron Murphy slid to the latter position I would be all over that but (a) I’m biased and (b) he isn’t going to slide to 22…

If it takes 42 and the 3rd to move into the 20’s to take a falling star, sure do it.

I didn’t love moving back. 6 QBs could go before pick 23. Probably at least 3 if not 4 WRs will be gone. That’s 10 picks on positions the Texans don’t need. That’s a damn good pool of 13 prospects. There should be some really good corners and DL that fall.  They really need the 2025 pick to be in the 30’s to get value back.

Yep. Good to see back on the shelf again in Texas and at close to the same price.

OTH I’m seeing Henry McKenna 10yr for north of $60. Pass.

Yeah McKenna is better, but it’s not $25 better.

i think it speaks more to how rushed of an ending the book was.  i didn't like the book ending.

another difference between the book and this show is yabu's character.  i remember him being more sinister in the book but the way he was played here makes him a lovable goofball with an unfortunate bent toward self preservation in a culture that expects loyalty to the point of death.  i think i like this portrayal more- he's almost a touchstone to modern sensibilities.

Full agreement on the book ending and how it influenced the show.

Shit, the battle between Toranaga and Ishido is a footnote in the novel.

As an illiterate, not being true to the book is a feature not a bug. Hearing “according to the book” - who gives a shit?

Regarding Lynch’s version, his casting decisions were phenomenal. As besotted as I am with Florence Pugh, Virginia Madsen was smoke. Wow, whoa what a beautiful woman!

Sean Young and Francesca Annis were striking. Hell, might as well add Sting to the list.

Alicia Witt as Alia was extremely creepy. A toddler whacking their grandfather is some dark shit.

the details are fuzzy to me but as i remember it omi does divorce his wife who is then give to anjin as a wife and kiku is given by toranaga to anjin as a consort.  did that actually happen?

I think you’re right. The boss identifies Midori as Omi’s lone weakness, and he wants his top advisor working full time for him. So he removes Midori from his house. Cold blooded.

I've only seen these two but both are great suggestions.  Twilight Samurai is Sanada playing different song and probably an even better performance than Shogun.

I agree, in fact a lot of the changes I noted in the series I thought were sensible and interesting.  Another one was sidelining the courtesans and leaving out the arranged marriage between Blackthorne and Kiku.  It's a little wish fulfillment for a male book reader but including it here would undermine the absence created by Mariko's sacrifice.

All of the post finale reviews/interviews with the creators are asking about the possibility of a season 2 and the show runners have basically said "Anything is possible" but that they are out book to adapt.  They are reading Tai-Pan, however, and that would also be worth a modern adaptation.

Thanks for clearing that up on Blackthorne marrying Kiku. Fuji tells the boss to not allow the Anjin to marry a courtesan, and suggests Midori (spelling?), Omi’s wife. Fuji also alludes to Mariko suggesting Midori for Anjin-son’s wife before her death.

The boss was seriously considering Omi divorce his wife and give her to the Anjin in the final chapter. I think there’s a brief allusion to Blackthorne marrying, but I didn’t pick up a definitive marriage to Kiku.

  12. I watched it again. The Baron is on screen for what 5 minutes tops? I’d have to double check , but there are 10+ chapters from the Baron’s POV in the book.

Also Giedi Prime is depicted as peak Roman Empire in black and white. It’s supposed to be a polluted industrial hell hole. I’ve always imagined the planet as a giant oil refinery. Lynch’s version looked campy as hell, but it was more true to the book.

Paul’s acceptance of Irulan is also problematic. He tells the emperor he’ll marry his daughter, but in name only. He’ll never consummate the marriage, and Chani shall be his consort and mother of his children. Paul and Chani just don’t seem to be clicking at the end of the film, which felt off given they’re much in love at the end of the book.

Otherwise, I loved it. DV understands what Dune should look and sound like, and he built the films around this.

Nope, that was just a dream. He is never going to leave Japan.

Books: I believe Toranaga states in his inner monologue that he’s going to continue to burn Blackthrone’s ships as long as he needs to the Christian regents, and that he won’t be allowed to leave.

It has some similarities to Shogun. I’d recommend it if you like this show.

Damn shame this was made.  Horrible compared to the original trilogy even though the cast  had some stars.  One actor that I normally can’t stand and find hideous is awkwafina but strange enough, at the end, when she didn’t have the crazy make up and hair, she looked decent.

    bangability rankings:

1 Sandra bullock - classic beauty. Have had a crush on her forever

    2 Ann Hathaway.  Underrated body

    3 Kate blanchett

    4 Rihanna

5 awkwafina.  Yep I said it

    6 Helena bonham Carter

    7 Sarah Paulson

    8 Mindy kaling

    Rihanna 4th?! Come on man!

Hathaway 2nd. Motherhood has been kind to her. Bullock 3rd. Blanchett was beautiful in Benjamin Button. I can’t remember finding her attractive after that movie.

Anybody that has watched Nora from Queens can no longer see Awkwafina in sexual manner. That said when she her hair and make up are done she looks great.

Yikes! Hockey goons! I guess that's why the Bulldogs are top 15 every year. Mississippi scary.

The Aggies know how to lose in Mississippi. They're just trying to warn us.

These assholes really believe we’re going to lose every SEC game don’t they?

All I heard during rodeo was that Texas wasn’t SEC ready and it would take time for us to adjust. They’ve chosen to ignore the 2023 CFP appearance.
