  1. Poor follow up to the pilot. Is this a comedy? I guess they’re going for the same absurd dark comedy vibe as The Plumbers.

    - I guess they needed an age appropriate Asian woman so of course they cast Sandra Oh. Constance Wu is 42 so she also meets the criteria. She’s also much better looking and not annoying as shit in everything.

    - Downey warned about not going full regard in Tropic Thunder, so of course they guy elects to portray the professor as a flamboyantly gay man.

    - Captain is kind of grating as an always offended smart ass.

    - The squid story was pretty funny.

A nun. What a waste of prime trim.

Better outcome than the book. Toranaga grants her permission to commit suicide. I believe she jumps off a cliff.

She talks pretty bluntly to the boss. She explains she will always be in love with her husband and nothing will ever change that.

She’s much more attractive on the show than in the book. A bad ass in both.

How many players have 1st Rd grades in this draft???

The Athletic’s podcast was at 17. Maybe 19 if they really pushed it.

except for the dream sequence where he's with his grandkids.  i don't get what they were going for.

    A dream within a dream.

  5. Outstanding season.

    Spoiler

That said, I wish they had a GOT budget. They cut many scenes from the book that would have been awesome to see on film.

I think an additional episode for the Edo to Osaka love in and an additional episode for the Osaka attack aftermath/Mariko’s funeral would have been appropriate. So 12 episodes instead of 10.

The showrunners took the cheaper and more subtle approach. There is beauty in subtly. I think they nailed that.

Going to Jonathan's The Rub (I-10) tonight for a combo of my wife's bday and her parents' anniversary very early dinner. Very early because I'll have my 1 and 3 year olds in tow.

Is anything a must-get, or is it generic high end steakhouse fare?

Veal Marsala. Their Italian section is quite good. The original location was mostly Italian. The menu has changed quite a bit after looking at it just now.

  7. Is the Centennial shoot location the original on Guadalupe?

Those bastards took my fake ID as a sophomore. I was trying to buy schnapps for an OU Weekend date that really didn’t drink. Massive fail.

I was forced to shop there after turning 21 because they were the closest liquor store to West Campus with something resembling MSRP prices. Also my fraternity bought Keystone from them.

Bruh put a trigger warning on this shit. Many memories.

My parents moved up when I was a junior, and they adored the place. It had a very 70’s college vibe, so I’m not surprised.

  9. Mariko.

    Spoiler

The Edo to Osaka love in between Mairko and Anjin being omitted from the show is unfortunate. It’s a beautiful, peaceful part of the book. They could have knocked it out in 1 episode, but budget I’m sure. They were essentially husband and wife during the journey…but Mariko warned him again and again, when they reached Osaka it was over.

Her Christian conversion was never satisfactorily explained in the book or show to me. Book: not much. Show: she’s sad and alone and wants something to hold on to. Maybe Toranaga ordered it? He orders Naga to convert in a year in the book. She’s 1000% Japanese and samurai. She never seems conflicted to me. I think the show did a better job of projecting her intentions. Ochiaba essentially says she’s samauri first and she’ll do her duty to Toranaga. She takes her last rites in the book well before the ninja attack from the Portuguese priests, so I think she believes in something. Long story short, she knows she’s going to die in Osaka and there is no other destiny for her.

Loyalty to one’s father is a fascinating element of both the book and show. It drives every important decision in Mariko’s life.

  10. They’ve had some baddies on LHN. Sam, Kaylee, and Jane. They had another hottie last year or 2, but her name escapes me.

This seems to be the LHN’s farewell.

I hope Loeb, Robison, and Fozzy catch on at the mothership.

  11. Owens’ ranking has always flummoxed me. Great size, live arm, decent athleticism and he played 6A football in a good district. It’s like the services decided he was a low 3 star as a sophomore and refused to move him until the very end. He practiced and played well in the all star game, but he had excellent junior and senior seasons. Nobody should be surprised he showed out.

Blow up that mofo before they come up with something similar for the EoT …

The Bun B over saturation is perplexing. He’s like Houston’s version of Taylor Swift. He is everywhere.
