  1. I spent my teenage years waxing the gellcoat and staining/oiling the teak gunwale tops on my Dad's 24' Boston Whaler Outrage.  It wasn't until years later that I discovered that there were people who didn't polish their hull.  But I didn't equate it with work, because I then got to spend a whole lot of days offshore in that boat catching Kings, Ling, Dolphin, and Red Snapper.  I've always been boat spoiled.

Maybe they're just trying to save money by making sure neither of you have dates for the wedding.

You laugh but this is actually a subconscious criteria that I've set when paring down my invitation list to about 120.  I hate it, but those +1's might cost me an extra G with the caterer.  I feel like an asshole.  Then I feel grateful that I've got enough good friends and family to where my guest list could approach treefiddy.

I was Best Man at a college buddy's wedding. Had met the Maid of Honor once a couple of years before but no contact in between and barely remembered her. After the wedding ceremony someone said it was expected for the BM to ask the MoH out for the evening, so I did.

Proposed to her after a couple of weeks & 6 dates, then got married 5 months later.

Virtually all our friends said it wouldn't last, but they're all now divorced & remarried since then - and we are fixin' to celebrate our 51st anniversary..

    You never know.

I made the decision to jump out there and try some online dating, yeah I know.  The rule of thumb is to wait a year and I'm 20 months sober and not sure that is long enough for me.  I went on one date with a girl and we really hit it off but she told me that since I was sober it wouldn't be moving forward.  I appreciated her honesty and not leading me on so no big deal that's done I thought initially.  But that part got me down in the dumps a bit after thinking about it.  My brain was just thinking are all attempts to date going to end like this and make me feel like I'm an outsider because I'm sober?  Talked about it in the Sunday morning meeting (topic was failure) and realized that this wasn't a failure, which I was thinking it was, it was actually just life and I came accept life on life's terms.   But it was a check to me in that I am and have been surrounded by people in recovery or people that know my story and support me.  It was a reminder that people do still drink and it's a part of their life.  Rant over, thanks for listening.

Curious as to if she qualified why your sobriety would be a dealbreaker.

When my now Fiance picked me up on an online dating site 7 years ago it was because I specifically mentioned that I was drug/alcohol free.

My bet is that if you make mention of that then you'll attract someone who isn't looking for a train wreck.

He owned 60 fast food restaurants and sold them for a lot of money. He’s a bright dude. He trusted his attorneys and accountants and it was either turn over the assets representing his life’s work or move to the Caribbean with his loot.

    Not an easy decision.

If anything, his luck was bad.

Curious situation.  When I was in St. Kitts a few years ago there was a nice housing development going in to the west of Basseterre and there were signs posted that if you invested $400K in property then they would give you a passport/citizenship.  It's my understanding that many of the early cryptocurrency millionaires took advantage of this and similar offers, people actually renouncing their US Citizenship.

From what I've read extradition becomes a joint Justice Dept/State Dept endeavor and requires the accused to have legal representation in both countries, etc.

    Kombucha

As a recovered alcoholic, the first time I drank this stuff it made me nervous - it's got a kick almost like wine, but it doesn't get you drunk, it just makes you shit.

Anybody got brand/flavor recs for Kombucha?

Tonight’s dinner... was fantastic.  Biggest fish I’ve ever caught

    28_D90_F4_B_95_DE_469_C_8_E3_A_63_AFD411

That hits close to home as I charbroiled an identical drum and a few trout for dinner last night.

Thanks everybody for sharing your rod/reel/line setups.  I may need to give braid another try.

  8. Lurch that's some good meat right there, I'm charbroiling some drum for dinner tonight.

Saturday was perfect but yeah the water level was low. Fished LA side of Sabine Jetty on an outgoing tide, picked up some drum and some solid trout over 20."

I love my new minn kota iPilot. Fished for 4 hours and didn't break out the pole or anchor.  Just hit the anchor button on the remote and jog in increments of 5 feet in whatever direction I want to go.  My favorite spot is a place about 500 yards from the end of the jetty where a concrete wall gives way to rip rap granite and there's a scour where the depth goes from 12' to 24'

I am a huge light tackle fan, the only rods I own are all ML action and I fish with 10 or 12 lb mono.  I've got a mixture of Curados and Concept C reels but my favorite utility rod has become the Shimano Crucial 7' in ML.  High sensitivity and performance at $150 each - Does anybody have a better suggestion for a rod at that price point?  I'm thinking I need to buy a M rod for reasons.

Anyway, I love Reds on light tackle.  And Saturday I guess I was being impatient and I horsed 2 really good sized reds and lost them, so either I probably need a rod with a little more backbone and/or some heavier line.

Saltwater guys, would you post your favorite saltwater rod/reel/line combination?

For the past 7304 days, I have not found it necessary to take a drink.  Twenty years have flown by since the last bender, and I could not be more grateful for the program of Alcoholics Anonymous, the God of my understanding I found there, and the men and women both in and out of the rooms who showed me a design for living that has made living life on life's terms a worthwhile goal every day.  Glad I found what turned out to be what I never could find in the bottle, and for the lives of the men I get to work with while trudging the road to happy destiny.  Thanks also to you guys-this thread would have been the one I missed the most if the site had not been reborn.

This is why I keep coming back.  Well done sir.

  10. If you freeze em so they'll keep, break those bad boys out on Thanksgiving for Crawfish dressing.  I can get a recipe from my grandmother in law, in fact I should before it's too late as she's 92.

God I love crawfish. . .the smell, the taste, mmm mmm mmm. One of spring's true blessings down here in SETX/SWLA.

Blessed to have made it 3 years, today.

This is so fantastic.  I'm sorry I missed it, this no-tapatalk thing is irritating.

Hope everyone is in the middle of the lifeboat.  Good day to be able to face the world on it's terms not mine.

  12. I can't think of the guys name for some reason, but he was a bighearted shagster who was looking after our adopted homeless guy Emil Kizer. . .oh yeah, it was Foggy Notion! Anyway, I paypaled him some money and all I asked for in return was a photo of Kizer doing the sic em bears thing.  This was before all the raping, and before I cut financial ties to Baylor.

Ramjet used to have some good photoshops with Kizer.

I hope if Kizer's still alive that maybe he is on a run of better luck.  My heart goes out to that guy.
