He was a green card holder.   So essentially he was a U.S. citizen that could not vote in federal elections or have U.S. passport. He was subject to all taxes as if an American Citizen (even estate tax) and it is a taxable event to lose the green card status just like if he renounced his citizenship and expatriated.  And he would qualify for Social Security and Medicare.  And he would have a Social Security Number instead of ITIN.  Along the spectrum of citizen to non-citizen, he was very close to the citizen end things.

This is one helluvan informative post. I'm sorry, Mr. Monkey, but I'm all out of rep right now. Thanks for posting this.

It sure as shit includes the political party that controls our federal government, and controls many states, including Texas.  I'll post it again for emphasis, from The Economist, about the GOP plan currently being followed:

The GOP does NOT WANT MORE PEOPLE TO VOTE.  It is their foundational political strategy.

It's been this way since we were put on this Earth in the early 70s. I really don't mean to be an ass, but I'm glad that some honest former Republicans like yourself have finally woken up to this fact. The Southern strategy out front shoulda told us.

New-home sales plunge to a near two-year low as housing picture deteriorates

"Sales of newly-constructed homes swooned to the lowest since December 2016. September’s selling pace of 553,000 was 5.5% lower than in August, and 13.2% lower than a year ago.

What happened: Sales badly missed the MarketWatch consensus forecast of a 620,000 pace, and revisions to prior months were all downward.

The median selling price in September was $320,000, 3.5% lower than a year ago. At the current pace of sales, it would take 7.1 months to exhaust available supply, a 6-year high."

My understanding is that the rule of thumb is that a 6 month supply is generally considered a housing market at equilibrium. Above that and it's a buyer's market; below is a seller's. Those numbers above ain't good.

Kind of weird that Cuomo would get one.   Suggests that the sender is a New Yorker, I'd think.

Same could be said for California as the building housing Kamala Harris' office and the San Diego Tribune were also targeted.

    This is crazy.

Just to start, when has the press been afraid to offend the "right wing?"

My primary sources for national news are NPR, NYTimes, and Surly. Only one of those three doesn't treat the "right wing" with kid gloves.

Still over an hour on day 3 on a rainy Wednesday morning in south austin at both Randalls.

Yesterday morning, I had a doctor's appointment and used that nifty Travis Co. early voting link showing wait times that someone had posted. Luckily when leaving, I checked. Those Randalls at Mopac/Wm. Cannon and Ben White/Manchaca were the only "stoplight red" locations showing up, so I ending up going to the Gardner Betts annex and it wasn't too bad (~30 minutes).

I think it is "Europe" formed by putting together the outline of countries from other parts of the world.   UK is New Zealand, Scandinavian countries are India and Sri Lanka, Western UK is Hawaii, North Africa is an upside down Eastern Asia (China, Korean Peninsula), Italy is Florida, Island in Central Med is Hispaniola (Dominican and Haiti), Denmark might be Greenland, and I can't figure out what Spain is.  Great lakes are obvious, but unclear on what they represent.  Black Sea might be the Baltic...not real sure.

Anyway, my $.02...that may all be BS, but sort of what I see.

The Irish would like to have a word with you. Also, Corsica and Sardinia are in the Baltic, and Puerto Rico is just above Hispanola. And, yes, Denmark is puzzling.

Are you unfamiliar with any of this? Dude's a politician. Why would you expect anything different? Hillary took nine figure checks from Russian government proxies and still got the Democratic nomination for President.

Are you unfamiliar with the legendary Rev from TOS? That was her famous exclamation from the old mugshot thread.

I wouldn’t be ok with him coming out as a Nazi, but he’s not one so I don’t have to really worry about that.

I think the vast majority of Americans have no clue of the connotation or history of the term nationalist. He was using it to contrast to a globalist, a bad word.

Explain why you think "globalist" is a bad word.

Just finished the ep where they are in the funeral home with the whole family. That was a pretty damn intense episode. I am fully in. My wife has been making fun of me though, as all the sudden flashes or someone in the background or loud noises get me every freaking time.

3 episodes in and pretty hooked. It's rare that horror stories get much of a backstory to go along with it

Any scene in a funeral home with a dead body laying there always get me. Hate that shit lol

Watched the funeral home episode last night and thoroughly enjoyed it but can't yet speak to the ending.

That’s an odd group of counties to focus on. Williamson is 12th and Hays 24th in population.

Not really. See my post above: #9360.

it's not at all. people just need to show up and vote.

Not sure what you're saying there, but yeah, I agree folks need to get out to vote.

The point in my post was that I extrapolated yesterday's turnout to 2016 voting patterns in the big counties, but then shaved four percentage points off for the Republicans in those four counties and it was sufficient to tip the balance over to Beto. And, there's a specific reason that I picked those four: they're the closest to tipping from traditional red to blue counties and have been trending in that direction the last few cycles.

We all know the big cities in Texas are new blue (with Fort Worth being the last holdout). We also know that Austin and Dallas' growth is spilling over into the suburbs and that is irrevocably changing their voting patterns (just like Ft. Bend has switched Democratic in the last few years).

So, what I'm saying is that there is hope, and for god sake: GO OUT AND VOTE!!!

  13. I was just doing some quick back of the napkin calculations from yesterday's turnout patterns among the big counties. By my estimate, if Cruz's support is four percentage points less than the dotard's in Collin, Tarrant, Williamson, and Hays counties (and the libertarian garners 3%), then it is very possible that Beto would eek out the slimmest of victories.

    Change in Republican support (2016 -->2018) necessary for Beto win. COLLIN: 55.2% ---> 51.2%; TARRANT: 51.7% --->47.7%; WILLIAMSON: 50.9%--->46.9%; HAYS: 46.9%--->42.9%.

So, basically turn three "purple" counties "blue": Tarrant, Williamson, Hays, and turn one "red" county "purple." Given that the rapid population growth in those counties is largely due to folks moving in from other bluish/purple states, I don't think that possibility is totally out of the question.
