Generally agree (but I also thought we'd have 2 losses , maybe 3 tops)....

I think we right the ship for K-State.  I don't need a reason I just think we do.  I also think we handle Tech.  Of ISU and Baylor....Baylor is the one I could see us winning.  ISU will pick us apart and enjoy doing it.

I thought we overperformed last year and lost what little talent Strong left (especially on defense and O lines).

8-4 was about what I expected.  10-2 was possible with no injuries, but not likely.

Still think we go 8-4.  Don't have the depth or consistency to win 4 straight.  But enough to win 3/4.

Counting your Herman hate statistics before it happens?

Herman is 17-9 his first two seasons, it can be argued he inherited talent but it was a lot of guys that weren't team players. Let's let the season play out. Last year remember the QB room was fucking EMPTY. This year the DB room is a hospital.

Its  a bad argument that he inherited talent.  Strong left him nothing the year he left.  He lost all Mack's recruits his first year.  And he lost a lot of his own recruits from the two years he had well rated classes.  There is absolutely no depth on this team.

TCU was dead last in passing, actually still are.  Running the ball was the only thing they could do until they played us.

Klieman is a better coach than Herman with less talent.  He has won 7 national championships in his last 8 seasons.

They will beat us in the trenches, they have a running QB, and I sure wouldn't bet on this game because we should win off talent alone but Herman might be losing the team.

KSU whipped OU in the trenches.  TCU whipped UT in the trenches.  But I don't see KSU overachieving and UT's line so underachieving two games in a row.

What if Craig James didn’t kill 5 hookers?

Well if we are talking about the 80s, what if the refs actually called holding on Georgia in the Cotton Bowl.

Well then Nebraska would have beaten Miami and the U would never have gone on their run.

So what if holding and Nebraska still lost?  Freddie retires about 2003 with several MNCs?

I can't imagine him being tackled at the one.  There was no doubt that he was going to score.  In fact, I was watching the game with a friend who had his overly-emotional son who was prone to meltdowns when things don't go his way.  Before the play, he told his kid, "We could lose the game right here, so prepare yourself."  I immediately snapped, "Are you out of your mind?  Vince Young is going to win the national championship on this play."  That kind of optimism is extremely out of character for me, but I just  knew.

I knew we would win it at 26-38 with half the 4th Q gone.

Does record setting bad mean something different where you live? I don’t recall Texas having negative fucking return yards in my life for a season either.

Compare the last 3 years to Strong's.  Its probably about the same.  Both bad.

Compare the other side-kicking and return defense.  It is infinitely better than Strong's.

Hermann's 1st two defenses were infinitely better than Strong's.  We knew this year we had inexperience and little depth on D.  We had no difference maker on the line.  So we get no pass rush.  Poona and Malik made the rest of the defense better.  We've had the whole secondary out with injuries.  We've got two good examples and one awful one, not 3 awful ones.

not to derail too much but we get called for holding on running plays all the fucking time.  we had 2 that brought back big gains again against TCU.  even the announcers weren't sure it was holding.  so we get called when we might be trying to bend the rules a bit on a running play but OU can hold(and by that I mean choke hold) all fucking day long on passing and running plays with no call.  those kind of calls are just drive killers with this offense.

Don't think that's just us.  Big 12 does not call holding on passing plays but loves to call it on running plays.

Straight out of the lockerroom actually.  I was talking to someone yesterday about the game and how the team took it, and followed up with a question about Brennan Eagles.  All of the info I gave was in the answer about Eagles.  I was also told that several players have been pleaded with to not enter the portal, and as I said, there are a few who are thinking about redshirting this year to save a year of eligibility to enter the portal with.  I was told that the biggest problem in the lockerroom is that what Herman preaches is not what's being practiced.  From Herman --> Coaches --> Players there is a lack in execution of expectations.  Some players are required to follow them, some are not.  Some coaches hold their groups accountable, some don't.

I wrote about this in the Row The Boat thread.  Bag on Fleck if you want, but the guy has a vision for his program, sets the standards and expects people to follow.  He doesn't coach any particular unit, but instead motivates all of them.  Herman seems to want to have his hand in every group, while trying to run the offense, while trying to be the Head Coach, at a University where just being the Head Coach is grossly time demanding.  He needs to focus on being great at one thing (the thing we hired him for) instead of half-assing everything.  He can start by getting rid of the dead weight coaches who can't or won't follow his expectations.  I was told once that "great head coaches hire assistants who are better than them, or who push them to be better."  The problem with Herman is his own self-inflated ego and mindset that he's already the greatest thing in the room.

One of Charlie's failings.  He seemed scared to hire anyone even near as good as himself.

‘94 shouldn’t count and you know it. ‘90 and ‘95 we were exposed as frauds on a national level.  ‘96 - we were not a good team, and got lucky as fuck to win.

96 was a really talented team.  They just underperformed.  There were two future NFL rushing champs in that backfield-and neither was considered the most talented back-Shon Mitchel was.  They whipped an outstanding Nebraska team from one of the greatest 4 year runs in history (94-97 NU).

Winning in spite of 4 picks from our quarterback is not a luxury we have with our current roster on defense. There are very few teams that have that luxury.

I guess you can blame part of it on the play-calling but Sam was not good yesterday. He contributed as much to the loss as anyone else did, and I can't with a straight face blame it on the coaching when he came into the game with just 3 picks all year.

If our D coord. isn't a waste of salary and we have a remotely healthy secondary and Sam plays well we win that game by 20 points.

OU lost with a -2 on turnovers.  ISU lost with a -2 on turnovers.

He really needs to get rid of it quicker.  He seems to be locked onto one receiver more this year.

I just don't understand why so many of you were so happy with Charlie Strong when he had a losing record.  Herman got Texas back into the top 10 for the first time in 10 years and does have a winning record this year and you are already trying to fire him.

Sure, lots of room for improvement this year, but DKR had 3 straight 6-4 seasons before having the greatest Texas run of all time.

I'm not saying Herman is a DKR, but he's sure not anywhere near as bad as Shaggy's fave Charlie Strong.

My son's HS Coach just told me to chill last week when I emailed him issues in the scheme.  Yesterday lost 44-3.  I have coached a few teams in 7 and 8th.  Just run basic schemes,  Coach tackling mainly.  Lost 3 games in 4 yrs.   I guess I am an idiot.  Same shit.  we can all see it.  we suck at coaching.

Maybe we should volunteer your services as an analyst.  Announcers were saying we lead the nation in missed tackles (guess they track everything now).

    Yep.

Also, Casey doesn't suck, he just looks like he hasn't developed into a really good passer yet - only a wildcat. Basically he's Jerrod Heard.

Came on here to check this.  Sam is definitely avoiding running.  And his passing was the worst I've ever seen from him.

Keep reading posts about this team not quitting....yes they did quit, just not consistently. The OL quit their protection about 1/3 of the the time, the DBs quit on pass plays quite often, WRs dropped passes, other quit with their lack of focus leading to penalties all year long. The quit is there, particularly with coaches and their sandlot schemes and lack of accountability, and TH quitting on discipline to terminate nonperforming coaches.

. It’s not CS level quit , but make no mistake , there is quit all over the place.

A lot on this board.  That's for sure.

    Chicken or the egg.

How good of a passer was Stanley before Orlando? Our defense tends to make superstars out of folks.

Ahmad was talking about him being good early in the game and how he was telling the coaching staff.  Stanley put the ball on the money even when he was falling down.  If he had more than a couple of good receivers it would have been really ugly.

  18. 6 minutes ago, SpiralOut said:

The crazy part is, if you'd just teach these guys how to fucking tackle and turn and look for the ball which is Defense 101 level shit, we'd be fine.  Instead you've got guys diving at the ball runner's shoes, flailing their arms at guys, overrunning the play, and never looking back for the ball while wildly waving their arms in the opposing receiver's face and just begging the refs to throw a flag.

This ain't rocket science shit trying to stop Tom Brady from carving you up.  It's just basic defensive technique.  Yet clearly that's beyond the ability of our highly paid coaches to impart to these top level recruits.  Coastal Carolina can pull it off somehow, but it's too much for us.

On that last TD they were grabbing at the ball and gave the runner another 15-20 yards with 3! guys trying to tackle him.  Not that it mattered since they scored on the next play, but it could have.

What the mother fucking happened? Texas is up 14-3 and seems like an easy route going to happen. I'm at a family campout so I go tend to family things.
After getting things wrapped up for the night I turn the game on to see Texas having to drive for a game winning drive.
Somebody on that God damn coaching staff has some explaining to do and I suspect it better start with Orlando.

Bad play calls on 2 4th and shorts near midfield.  Gave KU momentum.  Lots of sloppy execution in the first half by Sam and the receivers left us with those 4th downs.  Sloppy blocking too.

  20. 5 minutes ago, Mileslong said:

I’m being serious. This team plays down to its opponent and injuries are killing the defense. Get healthy, squeak out some W’s and keep the goal to get to the B12 championship game

That is one of Hermann's weaknesses.  His teams have a history of playing down (or up) to the opponent.

Its a win.  Every team has one ugly game.

And I don't think we face a better passer than Stanley the rest of the season.  Not sure I've seen one all season.  So our secondary has a chance not to let us get blown out.

I don't watch LHN. It's great to listen to "non-professionals"; actual longhorns that speak with the team's best interests in mind.

Miss the better camera work when you have to watch on LHN.  There were a couple of KU TDs and one of ours where the receiver was uncovered and you didn't get a shot to help understand how that happened.
