  1. all for one and one for all!!! And Clownzano and Clowndel really think all 9 were committed Friday morning? Maybe the Oregon St. president thought they were, but its obvious UW, Oregon and Arizona all were on their way out and weren't about to sign any deal.
  2. Look at the Big 10+1. 8 game schedule and sometimes teams didn't get Ohio St. and Michigan. Those teams competed for the title. Northwestern won without playing either. One year there was a basically .500 Purdue team that would have won if they simply had beaten Penn St. One year Iowa and Ohio St. were both 8-0 in conference. And that was when you only skipped 2 of the other 10 teams. The tiebreaks will be a mess. Maybe if the SEC and Big 10 get big enough, they can merge and split into 12 team conferences. USC, UCLA, Oregon, Washington, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M, Missouri, Arkansas, LSU and one other in our 12 team western group. Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Northwestern, Indiana, Purdue, Michigan, Michigan St., Ohio St., Penn St., Rutgers in the northern group. Maryland and the rest of the SEC in the southeastern group.
  3. With the SEC, when Florida was up in basketball, they made sure UK and Florida played twice. UK and Tennessee, who were each other's biggest rivals, only played once. UK rarely won in Knoxville, except the years they won the NCAA. It was about TV matchups.
  4. Well its going to be who beat the 6th place team by more points.
  5. I like divisions, but once you get over 14, you might as well have separate leagues if you have divisions. And a lot of games teams like get thrown by the wayside. So in this 16-18 team conference world, divisions are gone.
  6. Its unreal how big the fantasy football NFL fanbase has become. I think Yormack is trying to tap into the gambling fanbase.
  7. The pros are all so good and talented. That takes some of the exciting plays away. The talent gap in college and the mistakes create some of the exciting plays. If you look at a game between professional chess players, its really well played. But all of the beautiful combinations are usually in the notes. They get countered. if there is a little more of a gap, you see the beautiful combinations actually on the board.
  8. I remember a '77 Bengals-Steeler game. Next to last game of the season. By tiebreaks, Bengals needed to win by 8 or more to make the playoffs. Game was played on an ice sheet at Riverfront. Bengals won by 10. After the game they were jumping up and down and just thrilled. I remember thinking, "this feels like a college game." I don't recall ever seeing so much excitement by a pro team again. BTW, the Bengals came out flat the next week and got stomped by the Oilers, so the Steelers still made the playoffs.
  9. Forde's daughter is an athlete at Stanford.
  10. Uh, this has been true for the last 60 years, since DKR was a young coach.
  11. It is. Many of them really like playing.
  12. Well we won't have to play Oklahoma St.!!! One thing you won't like is that they don't protect players. Late hits and cheap shots are often ignored. Targeting will still be a crap shoot. They never call holding on running plays, but do sometimes call it on pass plays.
  13. What they don't mention in that article is that the season they announced, they were getting hit by the S-E-C, S-E-C chant in every SWC stadium. They went 1-7 in conference and only beat just back from the dead SMU.
  14. Looking at the new Window Cougar board and they seem to understand their fate.
  15. https://www.on3.com/news/what-should-the-sec-do-next-administrators-weigh-in-after-latest-big-ten-big-12-expansion/ What is the SEC to do? In this interview with 3 SEC administrators (ADs?) they don't seem to be in any hurry. But the top candidates are FSU and Clemson.
  16. It just means more! Its really a better fit for our athletics. Big 10 is a horrible fit. We don't have hockey and wrestling and they aren't that good at spring sports.
  17. Well if you throw in softball, that makes it 43-5.
  18. Read somewhere that MLS didn't even have 900k. If true, no way the Pac gets 1.7 million.
  19. Sounds like Mizzou. They stayed in the union, but sued them!!! And actually, Missouri was one of the 13 stars on the Confederate flag. There was a rump secession legislature. Same with Kentucky.
  20. UH actually does pretty well in Houston. Its beyond Houston they don't do especially well. Back around 2005-2009 the Chronicle would list local TV ratings. Even being in CUSA, UH usually was ahead of aggy. Texas, of course, was off the chart.
  21. https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sports/aztecs/story/2023-08-05/san-diego-state-sdsu-mountain-west-pac-12-conference-realignment-merger-oregon-state-washington-cal-stanford MWC-Pac merger discussion
  22. Weird to hear all the handwringing over the collapse of the Pac. They even interviewed Missouri's football coach. Missouri!!!!! The one school the Big 12 would never take back. One article even downplayed the stripping of the Big East and Big 12. I never heard these complaints with the demise of the SWC or the 4 defections from the Big 12 in 2010-11 and the dribble from the Big East. The Pac even split up on its own once. In 1959 UW and the 4 California schools left WSU and the Oregon schools behind (although they later took them back) and also dumped Idaho. Colorado and Utah have hardly been there. And Arizona and ASU spent more time in the Border and WAC than Pac. I feel bad for Oregon St. and Washington St. fans, not that there are many of them. There is no 2022 P5 public school with worse attendance than those two. And both are decent size schools. They really are AAC/MWC type schools. Their budgets are near the bottom of the P5. And WSU has about a $15 million subsidy to maintain that. Stanford made their own bed with their arrogance. Cal just doesn't seem to care much. Don't feel sorry for those two at all if they end up in purgatory.
  23. That's a quote from the ASU AD who probably hasn't even talked to any Big 12 people. The Big 12 isn't doing divisions to keep the least enthused member happy. There WILL be regional scheduling, however.
  24. Not UNC. They didn't even require their players to go to class. Just sign up and collect their A's.
  25. Apparently Arizona had to drag them out of the WAC in the first place in 1978.
