  1. Interesting that they say "impede breath circulation" as opposed to attempted murder.

    2022 Heisman

Caleb's a Sooner.. Its what you expect. And then when they lose, they cry.

    2022 Heisman

And this year he's still the best QB in the country. But Alabama lost two games.

    2022 Heisman

Stetson fits the criteria perfectly. One of the top QBs on one of the top 10, preferably top 5 teams. Remember when RBs used to be strongly considered? As the former Sooner noted, he was the only one there not going to the playoff. And Williams probably got most of his votes before he got smashed into the turf with USCe's playoff hopes. Interesting that the Davey O'Brien for best QB picked Duggan over Stroud and Williams. The Maxwell for best player picked Williams over Stroud and Hooker.
  5. Utah Tech used to be Dixie State. That portion of Utah was known as Dixie because of the large number of southern settlers. But nobody outside Utah had any idea where it was. And "Dixie" is not politically correct anymore. They don't really enforce the attendance standard or the stadium standard. I don't know if their plan can work because they do have to play a certain number of FBS schools who are not in transition. Maybe if they moved up 2 or 3 at a time and then came back together in a conference later it could work.
  6. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/35216756/atlantic-sun-wac-teams-pairing-move-fbs-sources-say Seems everybody and their dog wants to be FBS. Abilene Christian? Tarleton St.? Utah Tech? Austin Peay? At some point the power conferences just need to leave the neighborhood and find a gated community.
  7. Brett McMurphy @Brett_McMurphy · 20h Big 12 commish Brett Yormark on Big 12's four new schools & what lies ahead: "We'd love to get into that fourth (Pacific) time zone & we will at some point" Brett McMurphy @Brett_McMurphy · 21h Pac-12's George Kliavkoff said a decision on Pac-12 expansion will be determined after the league's media rights deal is done Brett McMurphy @Brett_McMurphy · 22h Pac-12 commish George Kliavkoff said he "doesn't sense any sense of urgency" regarding media rights deal completion
  8. Realignment talk not going away: Dennis Dodd @dennisdoddcbs · 2h Brett Yormark on expansion: "Over the course of the not too distant future, I would expect things to happen."
  9. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/35204361/alabama-ad-see-sec-expanding-term "...SEC commissioner Greg Sankey, also speaking at the conference Wednesday, said he echoed Byrne's comments regarding expansion. "I'm not a recruiter," Sankey said. "We're focused on the growth to 16. We don't have a number in mind, we think we're really well-positioned ... but I won't predict what others will do." When Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren was asked Wednesday on a separate panel at the conference whether the Big Ten was done expanding, Warren said: "For now." ACC commissioner Jim Phillips said the conference is "always looking" when it comes to expanding. "We're always assessing our institution and assessing to see if there are moves that would benefit the ACC in the long term," Phillips said. "But bigger is not necessarily always better...."" No definition of what "for now" means. Until January? Until next summer? Until the next contract?
  10. NIL, conference perception, having a voice in setting the future rules in this new world of college football (and the rules will be determined by the SEC and Big 10) as well as recruiting. We would likely continue to make more than anyone even in the Big 12. And if not, nobody would be far ahead of us.
  11. Agree. Although it was as much Alabama, Georgia, Clemson and Ohio St., the CFP participants, who were siphoning off top talent in Texas. Last year, after the announced move, Texas and Texas A&M dominated the top talent in Texas more than I ever remember. Per 247 In 2021, Ohio St. got the top 2. Alabama had 4 of the top 18. TN #6, LSU #19. A&M had 6 in the top 20, OU 4, UT 1 and Texas Tech 1. In 2022, LSU got the top player, Clemson got #3, Ohio St. got 2, but they were 12 and 13. Alabama only picked up a #14 and UGA a #17. But you had to go down to #24 to find someone else who didn't commit to A&M (10 of top 23) or UT (7 of top 23).
  12. Notably, the AAC wasn't far behind the ACC despite the ACC having two well known programs and the AAC having Tulane play opposite LSU and the SEC CCG. The ACC was opposite the Big 10 game which wasn't expected to be competitive.
  13. My oldest sister was at UT then, but not in the band. I remember this game well, but the first one I remember was the loss to Gene Stallings and the aggys in 67.
  14. Something I discovered later was that in 1964, Royal went for 2 and lost 14-13 to Arkansas for their only loss. Arkansas would win a share of the MNC when Texas beat poll champ Alabama in the Orange Bowl. In this game he made the two point conversion and won 15-14. So going for two was again him showing fearlessness.
  15. Todd Dodge probably got more press at the time than Arch Manning.
  16. Do I really need to run down a list of all the Texas QBs who really were disappointments in the 70s/80s/90s? Who were as heralded at the time as Quinn Ewers? And how about the post Colt/post GD QBs at UT who only seem to do well when they transfer to SMU?
  17. So Mack Brown doesn't do analytics?!
  18. The Massey composite has TCU 4 and KSU 7. The CFP has them 3 and 9. So basically, nobody who knows anything agrees with you. Yes, Chris Simms agrees with you, but....
  19. No. The bottom 5 of the Big 12 and SEC were pretty tough. In Massey, Vandy is 71, one behind Arizona and ahead of 4 other Pac schools. Iowa St. is 65, ahead of all the Pac's bottom 5. But yes, a lot of people judge conferences by the top, not the average. The Pac has improved. They were 10-25 out of conference in 20 and 21 vs. FBS. Last year their ooc win % was worse than the MAC's and ahead only of CUSA.
  20. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/35185954/washington-qb-michael-penix-jr-return-2023-season Think this makes it clear that UW's QB will play, barring injury.
  21. Actually saw a penalty on that the other day. They pulled the runner instead of pushing, which is still a penalty.
  22. Pac 12 overrated. The bottom 5 of the Pac 12 are horrible and the top 6 missed each other on the schedule a lot and so didn't give each other losses. USC and UCLA both played all the bottom 5.
  23. Its because they are a whole lot smarter. Rice had the best APR of any 5-7 team in the country. No real surprise. 2 and 3 were, though, schools that fired their coaches, UNLV and Auburn. Had Buffalo lost their makeup game last weekend, UNLV would have gotten a slot.
  24. We also don't know that the 3rd place team in the Big 10 and Pac 12 wouldn't win the SEC. Its also just about as likely to be true as Arkansas, Miss. St., Kentucky and South Carolina winning the Big 12. The Sark-Alamo Bowl with UT and UW.
  25. The conference only gets embarrassed when OU or Lincoln Riley are in big games.
