What is the offense going to look like if they do hire Harrell? Surely Herman will not totally abandon his beloved "pro spread." What is the run game going to look like in this offense? Harrell may be good at implementing and running his offense but it's hard to see how he and Herman will mesh.
Go watch some 2018 UNT highlights on YouTube. They regularly ran ball out of 11 personnel sets & even threw the ball to their TE/H-Back.
I imagine Harrell's offense at UT under Herman will look more like his 2018 UNT offense than his 2019 USC offense.

Welp looks like Ash is more of a sure thing than Orlando was.

Why did Herman hire this fool in this 1st place?

I saw a UH fan, who keeps up with UT football, make this comment on another forum about the offensive coaching changes Herman is making:
I’ve seen Herman shit all over the air raid when he was at Houston. I’m sure if I looked I can literally find him on camera during a press conference saying the air raid can’t win you championships. This is wild to watch.

IT thinks Graham Harrell will most likely be the OC hire. Graham Harrell is part of the Air Raid coaching tree.

If it’s Harrell that means Hand is out as I imagine Harrell will want to bring his O line coach.
OB reported that both Hand & Drayton are safe.

Looks like IT thinks Graham Harrell will be the most likely OC hire. I haven't watched USC much this year. Does Graham Harrell run a more balanced Air Raid system or does he run a more pure Air Raid?
6 minutes ago, TexasFan21 said:I'd say its balanced. Skeptical on the run game as their numbers are not great this year as they rank 111th in rush offense.
4 minutes ago, mdmost said:USC is more pass heavy. They had more yards passing per game than Texas and that was with a 3rd string playing most of the year. 335 yards per game for USC vs. 296.2 per game for Texas. I'm not sure what their running backs look like compared to ours. Recruiting has dropped off considerably for USC in the last couple of years.
What's USC base personnel on offense this year? 11, 20, or 10?

Can someone explain why everybody thinks UT pulling Joe Brady from LSU to be the OC is gonna be hard when Joe Brady is only a non-playcalling Passing-game coordinator/WR coach for LSU?

If the OC option comes down to Graham Harrell & Joe Brady, Harrell is the safer option. Harrell has already shown he's a capable playcaller at 2 different stops, while Joe Brady has NEVER been a playcaller. Also we don't know if Joe Brady lucked into right QB in Joe Burrow, we need to see how the LSU offense looks like next season without Burrow.

So we are going after Brady or Harrell? I don’t see either of those happening. I think we could pull Sterlin away from McNeese State.
I'd rather just hire Baby Briles from FSU. USF fans & bloggers had the same complaints about Sterlin's offense that UT fans had when Sterlin was here.

Herman hiring Graham Harrell seems like a poor immediate fit. I don’t think the air raid would be real successful here next year, and that’s a year that will need to show improvement for Herman to keep his job. Sam’s strengths are mobility, toughness, and ability to adlib. His accuracy is pretty mediocre to poor. Our receivers that will be left all seem to drop a lot of passes.
UT already runs a pro-spread offense with Sam. If a QB is a good enough passer to play in a pro-spread, there's NO REASON he can't play in a Air Raid offense.

Instead of hiring 1 of Clemson's no-name Co-OCs, why not just hire Chad Morris himself?

Herman is a narcissistic and lacks self awareness. But he’s not dumb. He’s going to throw his staff under the bus to save his ass 100%. Don’t think for one second he gives a shit about any of his coaches. Here’s where CDC needs to step in. You don’t let this smug fuck face hire his new coaches. You go to Joe Brady and give him 2-2.5 mil a year to become the OC. You tell him he has full control of the offense and can hire the position coaches. You tell him if he turns this offense around, we can Herman next year and promote him.
You tell Herman that he doesn’t have a say in the hires and his job is to be the CEO. If he meddles, he’s fired next year.
I'm iffy about Joe Brady because he's not even the playcaller for LSU.

Kirk Johnson is made of glass, but why has he not gotten any carries this year? He is healthy and is a senior who should know the plays and how to block blitzing linebackers. He should be getting at least a shot a 5 or more carries to see if he can supplement Ingram and our converted QB Johnson.
Co-sign. I'm very disappointed that we haven't gotten to more Kirk Johnson.

No Urban. We need to run Air Raid with a run game, which is what Riley is doing. Urban will bring his shitty old offense.
Agreed. But than again, Urban was smart enough to hire Ryan Day as OC before last season to change tOSU's offense from a Power Spread to a Pro-Spread. So maybe he'd do the same thing here.

(Ian Boyd) Five quick thoughts: Out-coached again
Hmmm.....Listening to this week's Horns247 podcast episode a few days ago, Jeff Howe feels the big issue with Herman's staff X&O's-wise is they're trash at scouting. Based on this piece Ian Boyd just put out, looks like he agrees.

My problem with this logic it's established that UT Football is arguably the biggest underachieving program in the history of CFB. So giving Tom Herman a pass because of how long it took previous UT head coaches to finally win their 1st conference titles is just continuing that trending of UT Football underachieving.

This.
All those using youth and the "bare cupboards" left by Mack and Charlie need look no further than Baylor to see what good coaching can do.
I doubt Rhule would have wasted 3 years of Duvernay's talent on the outside. He's 5' 11" and fast as shit...if that doesn't scream slot, I don't know what does. He's currently two catches shy of having more receptions this season than the previous 3 years combined.
Had he stayed at Baylor he'd probably be a lock for the 1st round.
These dumb fucks don't know how to give their players the best chance to succeed, which is frustrating enough as a fan, so I can only imagine how frustrated the players must feel.
Same for Jon Burt. There's no doubt in my mind if Burt played for another Big 12 program (That has a capable QB of course), he'd be the featured deep threat WR for them.

We just ran 4 curls or stops. 4th and 10 with a secondary which has been killing our receivers and our call is 4 curls. That's possibly the stupidest and laziest play call in fucking history. Fuck Herman for that call. It's fucking unbelievably stupid. He deserves all the shit he's going to get this week. All the heat.
Tom Herman inherited his passing game from Greg Davis & it shows.

2020 Coaching Staff

Posted
Yesterday I was listening to this week's episode of Chip Brown's Horns247 podcast & a beat writer for USC was on as guest.
Based on the stuff the USC beat writer was saying, we should all want Graham Harrell to also be the QB Coach. It reminded me of the positive stuff we were hearing about Sonny Cumbie when UT was considering hiring Cumbie after the 2015 season.
If Beck is gonna remain part the on-field coaching staff, he needs to move to TE coach or something.
