I hope I can find an area team in Round Rock a couple years from now. They were great, cheap swim lessons as a kid and I always loved the meets.

There are plenty of teams in and around Round Rock.  Some are neighborhood specific like the Avery Ranch Redfish some are open at all like the Brushy Creek Marlins.

I took some human sexuality class in undergrad.  One girl asked the teacher if there was anything, heath wise, wrong with swallowing.  Classroom looked just like that picture.

For reasons passing understanding I’ve agreed to a meeting in Marlin, TX next week. Coming from Dallas area…any suggestions?

You could try Victorians Barbecue in Mart if you are going Th-Sat.  I have a review up thread which was not great.  However, another poster had good experience with them at another location.  I'd love to hear another review - it could have been a bad day the one time I went.

  4. Here is the cell phone contract I had my kids sign:

    Spoiler

                                                            Cell Phone Agreement

In exchange for the privilege of carrying and using a cell phone, I agree to the following terms and conditions:

    1.         I understand that the rules below are for my safety and that my parents love me more than anything in the world.  I understand that my parents want to give me freedom, while also giving me enough security to make smart choices.  Initial here: ____

    2.         I promise that my parents will always know the phone passwords.  I understand that my parents have a right to look at my phone whenever there’s a need for them to do so, even without my permission.  Initial here: ____

    3.         I will never ignore a phone call if the screen reads “Mom” or “Dad.”  Initial here: ____

    4.         I will hand the phone over to one of your parents promptly at 9:30 p.m. every night.  It will be shut off for the night and turned on again at 7:00 a.m.  I will not let my phone interfere with sleep, schoolwork, or other important activities.  Initial here: ____

    5.         If it falls into the toilet, smashes on the ground, or vanishes into thin air, I am responsible for the replacement costs or repairs.  I will tell my parents right away if the phone is damaged, lost or stolen.  Initial here: ____

    6.         I will NEVER use my phone or social media to bully or tease anyone, even if my friends think it’s funny.  I will tell my parents if I become aware of a cyber-bullying situation.  Initial here: ____

    7.         I will not text, email, or say anything through this device I would not say in person.  I will not text, email, or say anything to someone that you would not say out loud with their parents in the room.  Initial here: ____

    8.         I promise I will tell my parents when I receive suspicious or alarming phone call or text messages from people I don’t know.  I will also tell my parents if I am being harassed by someone via my phone.  Initial here: ____

    9.         I will never search for porn or anything else that I wouldn’t want Mimi and Meemaw finding.  Initial here: ____

    10.       I will turn it off, silence it, and put it away in public.  Especially at a restaurant, at the movies, or while speaking with another human being.  Initial here: ____

    11.       I will not send or receive pictures of my private parts or anyone else’s private parts.  It is risky and could ruin your teenage/college/adult life.  It is always a bad idea.  Cyberspace is vast and more powerful than you.  And it is hard to make anything of this magnitude disappear – including a bad reputation.  Initial here: ____

    12.       I will get my parents’ permission before downloading or purchasing apps.  I will not sign up for social media without my parents’   permission.  Initial here: ____

You’ve made it this far without the necessity of a phone – don’t make it a necessity.  You will mess up.  We will take away your phone.  We will sit down and talk about it.  We will start over again.  You and us are always learning.  We are on your team.  We are in this together.

I understand that this is NOT my phone and that it was paid for by my parents.  Having a phone is not a right - it is a privilege that can be taken away.  As such, I have read the document and agree to the above rules.  I understand that if I have any questions, I should talk to my parents face-to-face.

    Talking SeasonPass on an AppleTV.

    Thanks for any help!

I think I followed some steps from this article last year.

I don't know how y'all get so many sides.  When I'm eating BBQ, I want meat (and beer).

We often split 2 or 3 meat plates.  I usually get coleslaw unless the place uses a sweet dressing.  Half of the tater tot casserole and half of the Brussel sprouts were taken home.

I think a good vinegar based slaw balances the fattiness of the meats.  I make and keep serrano slaw dressing and shredded cabbage at the house which makes an easy addition to complete meals.

But if we go out to eat with other people where there is any extended interaction with someone else, or have people over that he isn't very familiar with, it's meltdown city. Screaming, crying, arching his back, smacking his head on the ground.

He is developing language just fine. He can interact appropriately with kids at daycare, or the caregivers there, or us. But throw him in a room with anyone who isn't family or daycare, and he loses his shit.

    It's get super frustrating.

How much of it, if any, has to do with him not being the focus of attention?  I often see kids going to great lengths to get or keep parents attention in situations where the parents are interacting with others.  Not sure if that is the case or not, but it might be worth exploring.

  8. Had another decent meal at Stiles Switch in Cedar Park.   Brisket, pork ribs, jalapeño slaw, Serrano fried Brussel sprouts, chessy tater tot casserole, and smoked Buffalo wings.

Not outstanding like many of the top places, but it's nice to be able to get good barbecue on a Saturday night when everyone else has already closed.

Saved one slice of brisket for breakfast and most of the wings to eat later today during the Austin FC match.

  9. The motte-and-bailey fallacy (named after the motte-and-bailey castle) is a form of argument where an arguer conflates two positions that share similarities, one modest and easy to defend (the "motte") and one much more controversial and harder to defend (the "bailey"). The arguer advances the controversial position, but when challenged, insists that only the more modest position is being advanced. While this is considered a form of debate, it seems to me that it may be more than that and is a way that people think.
People think that any person that they disagree with is nuttier than they really are. While their debater may have a reasonable position, the person arguing with the debater thinks the debater's position is extreme.
Maybe there is a separate medical psychology term but I'm not aware of it. In politics it is pretty much a given that people think the opposing party members are nuts, but it is common in most subjects. A person who raises Pit bulls is thought of as a gang banger while he may just like raising Pit bulls. A person who likes guns is thought of as a violent instigator and not just an enthusiast.
It seems to me that it a much more extreme person is easier to disagree with than a more moderate position. So, people naturally ascribe extreme positions to people simply because it makes it easier to argue with them. It may also make the person feel better about themselves when they engage in the argument.
Anyway is this a common, well-described and well-understood phenomena or an unexplored area of human psychology? I'm just curious because I had never thought about it before and it seems like a good topic for Psychiatrists, Psychologists and Socieologists to consider.
And while I described why people ascribe more extreme positions to their debater, I also feel that debaters themselves frequently have both modest and extreme positions and present both thoughts unknowingly through their subconscious. So, in this case people actually have more extreme positions than they let on. And in this case, people are actually more extreme than they let on. For example, a person might have extreme positions on overpopulation but when arguing they try to limit the discussion to water shortages but invariably the person adds in extreme comments like "we need a plague". Thoughts?

There is a similar and potentially related subconscious process that was discussed in one of my psychology classes.  It has to do with how a person attributes another persons actions as compared to their own.  For example:  the person in front of you doesn't hold the door for you - you attribute it to a personality flaw (inconsiderate, etc.); whereas, if you don't hold the door for the next person - it is something situational (hands are full, etc.).  It's called Fundamental Attribution Error.

Driving from DFW to NW Austin (Lakeway area) Thursday, leaving the airport around 9:30. What’s good off 36 between say Waco and Round Rock? Could always do Cedar Park’s Stiles Switch but it’s out of the way for this endeavor.

I ask like I won’t also eat 20 kolaches from the Czech Stop ..

Interstellar BBQ on 620 is really good (Texas Monthly #2 in 2021) and should be right on your way.

This is where I feel so damn lucky.  We've been married for almost 8 years.  She bought a target purse while we were dating, and after the kids were picking the fake leather apart on it, she bought some Amazon purse maybe a year ago at most.  2 purses in a decade, and nothing name brand.  Her parents instilled some damn good fiscal responsibility in her, for sure!

I bought my wife a Coach purse back when we were dating before the turn of the century.  She didn't much use a purse before and only uses it occasionally.  It'll last her lifetime.

Yeah, but they weighed what, 15 lbs or so?  Put me in the camp of not buying the "inflation adjusted" BBQ prices.  Some of it is just demand.

LeRoy says that finished brisket amounts to 36% of the total.  L&L use almost every piece for different things:  burgers and tallow primarily.  Watching their various videos - it appears that L&L has very little waste.

Here is a video of his brisket yield test:

  13. I didn't take a picture of the LeRoy & Lewis menu with the prices, but its not cheap.  I know the brisket, which is only available on Saturdays, was $40/pound.  The $23 two meat plate had an upcharge of $2 for sliced beef and $3 for brisket.
