This is a pretty bad loss. For all the love KU's coach is getting today, he had some really bonehead decisions. I'm not even talking about the 4th down decisions.
On UT last TD in regulation to tie the game at 49, the KU DBs were playing press man.
Game situation: KU 49, UT 42. 3rd and 1 at the KU 25, 26 sec left.
Why press man with their terrible corners?

Herman would likely be around if he weren't an asshole. My point is winning the SEC is different than winning the Big 12. ou should always beat osu. They have more talent every year.
You have 2 points. I'll take them individually.
I guess you'll lead the SEC!SEC! chants. You play the schedule you're given, and OU's never ducked teams.
SEC West has been consistently tough because of Bama. SEC East has had several years with mediocre winners.
This is very similar to the 2000s in the B12 South with OU, UT and periodically Tech and OkSt.These things WERE cyclical. They may not be cyclical in the future if the SEC locks in massive financial advantages.
-----------------
Beating your instate rival is really easy (eyeroll).
OkSt has been ranked 3/4 times Riley's Sooners played them. The Poke were higher ranked last year.Just ask Michigan or Alabama how easy it is to beat little brother. Since 2017 (when Riley became head coach):
Bama 2 wins, Auburn 2
Michigan 2, Mich St 3I'm done.

Yeah well Lincoln's rivals suck ass.
I'm not saying he is or isn't a savant but whipping our's and osu's ass every year buys you no points.
This is the best OkSt run in the history of the program. Gundy is 0-4 vs Riley.
Wouldn't Herman still be around if he'd won the B12 CG in 2018?
Instead, Herman was 1-4 and gone.

Well, $240,000 isn’t going to be enough to keep him.
Probably worth less than that since last year.

I'm not sure what any of this has to do with what i posted. Comparing him to UT coaches in a discussion comparing him to Saban doesn't compute. I'm fully aware of Riley's merits however I do not believe he can top Saban's run no matter where he goes.
The post you initially replied to was hyperbole, and I assumed you understood this.
Anyway, Riley compares favorably to early Saban, I mean LSU-Saban. Look up the numbers. Saban's championship obviously gives it to him, but early Riley is more consistent and beats rivals more consistently.
I'm done here.

Did you read the last sentence of the post I quoted. I don't think he has proven anything as of yet to be held in that high of a regard.
Yeah, I read your last sentence. I just couldn't believe it. Over 4+ years, which UT coaches EVER have done better than this? Let me do the math for you: zero.
DKR crushed OU to start (12-2), but he didn't dominate everyone else. He finished 11, unranked, 4, unranked, 3 over his first five years (39-13-3, 73%). Mack Brown went 49-15 (76%), but 2-3 vs OU including the following losses 63-14, 65-13, 14-3 with one of the most memorable plays in OU history (Roy Williams "Superman").
There are no other UT coaches in the conversation.
Here's Riley:
54-8, 86%
14-4 vs top 25
Vs Rivals: UT 5-1, OkSt 4-0
3 playoff appearances in 4 years and 9-0 this year.
Two Heismans already, and maybe his best QB has only started 3 games. His recruiting is only now picking up. He's only 38 years old, and he's the OC wherever he goes giving you more money to spend on other coaches.

I always struggle to understand how some have this opinion of Riley.
What are you questioning?

Has anybody mentioned that Jimbo typically lets the inmates run the prison? The more stars you get in a locker room the more toxic that environment is going to get. They will make a bunch of noise, pay a shit pile of money and not notice that the kitchen is on fire. Settle down pussies lulz
The last 3 years, their defense has been 27, 20, and 9th this year (all rankings are based on F+. Their defensive talent, especially on the DL, is good and improving. If Elko leaves, the change may interrupt their ascent. But I don't think there's data supporting regression of defense at least.

That’s a fucking well coached team. This ain’t the franchonee years.
The Aggies are going to have a good-to-excellent defense.
We're going to learn if Jimbo can still orchestrate a top offense in the next couple of years (in F+ from 2019 to 2021: 32, 15, 37).

I was just thinking that if PK doesn’t get things together next season and Cal hangs on to Wilcox another year before firing him, he’d be the first person Sark would look to for DC.
You guys need to give PK more of a chance. He's good.

Back in the late 80’s early 90’s that place was cool, had Ferrari’s and shit like that. But now not so much, mostly Kia’s.
dude Kia's get good gas mileage and have cupholders

Cal: This is a difficult job and like Justin Wilcox’s predecessor Sonny Dykes, Wilcox might be a better head coach than it appears to the naked eye. It’s also possible he’s just a much better fit as a coordinator.
I'd love for OU to go after Wilcox as a defensive coordinator. Even in this disastrous season, the Bears' defense may be better than OU's.

wanya morris hasn't exactly been lighting the world on fire this season.
10 minutes ago, EZ$ said:We’ll take him. Promised starting spot and all…
Morris didn't go through spring ball and was out part of the fall for some reason. He'll be a good option for one of the tackle spots for the next year or two for the Sooners. He was a good take for OU because they missed out on a couple of OT prospects (got Byrd though, who's gotten some positive reviews).

What does any of that have to do with my post? I am not arguing against taking OL via the portal, I am arguing against adding another jag to our OL room. The Oregon OL would be a take if he wanted to come here.
Was in reference to the dude from Wisconsin. I'm saying that the portal can be for high upside plays (Wanya Morris, Kingsley) and 1-year roster fillers (Congel, Wisconsin dude).
OU hasn't taken at jag who's got more than a year of eligibility left to date.

USC is trending towards Tennessee territory.
SC's administration has been WORSE than the goofballs in Knoxville in some respects. https://apnews.com/article/7a758a4b1f7945d7b42d90ff648597c3
But SC will always be in LA and Tennessee will always be in Knoxville so SC will always be the better job, if the administration wants it to be. Not so quietly, SC has been aspiring to changes its reputation more towards Stanford/ND than Alabama.
They still have legions of meathead undergrad alumni who will not allow football to fall too far, but building an academic reputation has been the admins focus for quite some time. In this environment, sports teams can be viewed as more of a potential for negative attention than anything else.

And to phrase this with a specific question, can you name a coach -- NFL, NBA, college football, or college hoops -- who excelled as both a player and a coach? I'm sure you might name a few, but I can't think of one off hand, and most of the greats we think of in terms of championships -- Pat Riley, Phil Jackson, Bill Bilicheck, Nick Saban, Bill Walsh -- had mediocre playing days at best.
The Zen Master played 12 years in the Association and was contributing member of two championship teams as a player.

LSU also fired Orgeron 1/2 a year after that, maybe its related
LSU is a tire fire with NCAA and Title 9 investigations. There are LOTS of skeletons in closets. Everyone is getting paid for their silence on the way out there. Otherwise, I'm sure you'd have seen more aggressive negotiations on future payments for Pelini and Ed-O.

This kid is not a take and its ridiculous for anyone to think he is. There is no point in reaching for guys that won’t make an immediate impact.
OU got good run from Robert Congel this year.
He's a guy who (I think)
initially walked on at A&M, and then played some there
then transferred to a terrible Arizona team, played a lot there
then portaled OU and started 3 games at center.Low ceiling, medium floor
Good take, one year rentalOU's also seems to be benefiting from taking Wanya Morris
Top 100 recruit from Tennessee
Portaled to OU this year and has played in most games until Kansas
High ceiling, low floor
Will be in the mix to start at OT for what should be a good OU OL next year.
Good take, 2-3 year player -

Offense had three 3 and outs vs OU defense in the second half. They had 2 drives ending in points and 1 drive ending at the OU 24 on downs. I dont think that is a complete disaster or leaving the defense out to dry. It is not optimal, but it is only a disaster because OU score 35 pts. My point is that people are excusing the defense for things that are self-inflicted. The bottom line is they dont get off the field. They allow opposing offenses to flip the field constantly. Every DC would love to coach along side great Wisconsin offenses, but that isnt in the cards. Both units are inconsistent, but the offense goes from excellent to disaster in games. The defense goes from mediocre to disaster. By the way, people are like the defense played well vs OSU. For the record OSU is arguably the worst offense in the Big 12 currently. They average 5.18 yards per play, even Kansas is ahead of them 5.2
Good to see you here Codaxx. Appreciated your reasoned opinions.

That's the point. Who cares if UT gets 8 yds with 26 secs left as long as the UT receiver stays in bounds?
