Or the football program had a mole?
Dude, I love mole. If the OU staff got them really good mole, that's probably life-changing.

The Texas 2022 QB texted a couple of guys and the national #1, 47, 73, 208 all got together and played football. That’s a good group to drive an hour to play catch 15 months before signing day.
Getting 3 Oklahoma high school kids to come out to an event for OU recruits, regardless of their rank, isn’t a paradigm shift. These kids have more guys in attendance and better camaraderie building at agility and speed training sessions, 7on7 practices, etc... This just happens to have press coverage, and that press coverage is wearing fanboi-tinted glasses.
Having the parents there is significant negative.
Regardless, who's making a big deal about this? Not me.
If you're complaining about 9.95ers creating content, that's essentially their job.

“The SoonerSummit was quite the event. ...was one of the more extraordinary things I have seen done in recruiting in a long time.
It created a buzz that reaches far beyond the SoonerSummit itself. “Maybe the guac was really good?

Three Oklahoma kids, and one commit
To be fair, the four kids 247 composite rankings:
15, 54, 88, 172
That's a pretty good group for essentially a dinner and hanging out with parents 15 months before their signing day.

It's a game.
It's a game that you're watching.
It's game that you can't even attend in person this year.
The dude's stupid for sure, but he's not wanting to brawl about it.

It's also been awhile since I've been there, but every time I've been to Owen Field it's open. Several times people, including me, have played on the field. There wasn't any security.
I can't recall the scoreboard being on, but they could make some excuse about them testing it or something.

Still a little befuddling that Byrd can continue to be ranked so high as an OT when he hasn’t played the position in 2 years. I guess 1) he can’t play OT and DT both and 2) Duncanville has a slew of guys that can play OT but not DT so they are forced by the talent to play Byrd on defense.
This is a sneaky key year for the OU OL. They were above average last year, but not great. Part of their problem with pass protection was probably Hurts, but Hurts obviously benefited the running game. They replace 4 starters and had new reserves too so to be above average is still pretty good.
For the Sooner OL to be considered top flight, they need to return to dominance this year. This means having an answer at both OT and a solid running game with new RB. OU's OL has typically taken a few weeks to gel so with the schedule in the air this year, there is a potential for missing high expectations.
This is relevant to recruiting because none of OU's top OL targets is expected to sign soon. So Leigh, Foster, and Byrd will get a chance to assess the progress of the 2020 OL group along with the rest of us.

I equate your new 2021 QB to Chandler Morris, who was committed to AR prior to his dad's firing, but switched to OU late.
Both are place holders with better fraternity upside than football upside.

Gilliam goes from silent to public - official to OU
5th DL-ish commit (including 2 rush ends). OU doesn't need to take any more DL this cycle. Hopefully, they are super picky at these positions.

You and I both know that it's less about getting them there and more about the experience they have together.
You and I have both read updates alluding to Caleb Williams' parents
You and I both know that Drumm is a fanboy and working in an "official capacity" at this event is a bit hairy
You and I both know that AT BEST, this event is a net neutral. At worst....well, you know that too.
For Leigh and Farooq, this will probably be their only visit to campus so getting there is a big deal. I haven't read the screenshots. Maybe I should. I do know that OU successfully handled other helicopter parents (Kyler Murray, Baker Mayfield, eg) so I don't worry about it. I also understand that it's hard for OU's real recruiting operation to stop this without alienating the kids ("Why don't you want us to come?").
I definitely agree that Drumm/CBS/247 seem overly invested in this. I also understand that their business model is at risk. I also understand that there's probably money laundering that goes on through recruiting so I don't think this is the biggest problem. It's a terrible process.
Going to visit colleges seems boring to me now, but I remember when I took college trips and how exciting it was. Leigh is picking from Norman, Columbus, Tuscaloosa, Baton Rough, or Clemson. It's obvious Leigh's decision isn't going to be determined by the natural beauty, kayaking, museums, or restaurants in the city.

Drumm just said Wheaton didn't make it to Oklahoma today. Stopped somewhere to spend time with his mom for her birthday.
Don't worry he'll be here tomorrow
We'll see what happens, but as of now, it seems like Caleb Williams/OU will have achieved most of what they'd set out to do.
OU's remaining offensive needs: who's scheduled to be there
1 RB: Wheaton
2 WR: Farooq
2-3 OL: Byrd, Leigh (Foster's still likely OU)
I think it's pretty impressive.

This whole deal reeks of desperation by both the qb and 247. Very unimpressed.
Alternatively:
Sounds like the parents are trying to maximize their son's likelihood of success by surrounding him with great teammates and are using the recruiting process to build their son's brand as a leader.

I think LSU takes Gilbert if they miss on Mukuba
Yeah, LSU and Alabama would have to pass before OU gets a good look I think. For a LA defensive prospect, Miss St is still tough competition.

Well, Gilbert would be a huge addition. I really like him a lot. Do you know anything about Hattley? Perhaps he fits the mold of an under-the-radar type of find. I don't know anything about him other than the listed size. It feels like OU backing away David must mean that they feel really good about Gilbert or perhaps feel like if they don't get Gilbert Hattley is a better option.
I agree 100% with the idea that if Daniels was unwilling to even entertain a move that OU had to stop recruiting him. No doubt about it.
I see Harmon as a S all the way. Yeah, Gilbert would be a best-case because it looks like he'll have some good options.
I see three options to get at least 1 or hopefully 2 more guys:
1. Poach someone committed to a lesser-regarded program (OU poached DTY from Baylor). AJ Green (committed to Arkansas as a RB) is one option.
2. Look at portal/JUCO options. I think there may be tremendous turn over after this season so there may be virtue in waiting.
3. Further high school evals.

Jordan Mukes - OU S commit is now 6'3" and 204 with a BIG frame. He looks to me like he'll carry 230 pretty easily. His PR in the 100 is 12.41. Seeing Mukes' gains -- there's got to be some mental or cultural fit eval that Grinch didn't like about Kendal Daniels.
@quigley - is the expectation for Mukes to stay at S or spin down to LB? I assume he's bound for LB but I honestly don't know and the Sooner board guys don't give me any confidence.
Looking at the S position for 2021 it looks like Broiles/Fields/DTY as JRs and then and Criddell as SO (Morris and Barnes have spun down to LB). Is there anyone that has gone from CB to S that I am missing? I don't see any of the 2021 CBs as possible S candidates with their builds, maybe Harmon but he seems like he's dead set on CB. It's weird that OU seems to have cooled on Daymon David, perhaps that means that they feel really good about Jardin Gilbert? He's really underrated IMHO. I've seen a couple of OU posters mention Chase Hattley but I don't know a damn thing about him, so until that heats up more I'm just going to ignore that. It seems like OU needs to land 1 more clear S prospect.
Mukes -- looking like a prototype spread OLB to me.
Just to be clear, I don't have any info that isn't available for free. I generally take people at their word, and Grinch has said he wants his defense to be fast. I agree with the statement that Mukes is going to be a "big nickel" or LB and play close to the line regardless. I said so here prior to Daniels going to A&M.
It was possible that OU planned on taking Mukes and Daniels as redundancy isn't necessarily a bad thing because both Mukes and Daniels have the build and athleticism to be excellent LBs. However, both need to change their bodies and mindsets to achieve this, and there's no guarantee that either will do so. Now if Daniels is straight up telling you he isn't interested in the switch, you've got to let him go because expectations don't align. It was right for OU to stop recruiting him.
I think (hope) OU's realized a couple of things regarding their defense. First, they can win the Big12 with a terrible defense. Second, they can't win a playoff game without at least a good one. To target B12 championship game and beyond, you've got to have DBs who can cover at every spot.
I think (hope) that OU's going back to the "4 corners" DB philosophy. With this line of thinking, OU should move Woodi Washington to safety or better yet nickel. He sounds like an great nickel candidate as he's apparently really strong, tough, and quick. Bryson Washington is another guy I'd like to see there.
If Broiles or Bookie see the field in anything other than mop-up time, OU's telling you that the other dudes aren't ready for whatever reason. Both may have been ok versus Kansas St, but neither are big enough or fast enough to play at the highest level of college football.
I've stated repeatedly that I'd like to see OU take AT LEAST one more DB and probably two. Another DTY-type is who I'd look for--tough, fast, smart, versatile, under-the-radar because of size. Those guys frequently emerge in the camp circuit prior to Sr year or during Sr season> After OU struck out on their top targets, I wonder if their back up plan was further evaluations. Those evaluation peroids are obviously over or in jeopardy now.

McClellan was the most important recruit for Texas last year. If he commits to us we don’t get Bijan, if he doesn’t ratfuck OU they get some other 5 star RB. Mensa Tom strikes again.
RB is overvalued, but yeah, it was a double win for UT for 2020.
Boulware's finally gone, so we'll see who benefits in the long run.

The buzz from the OU side was that both Milton and Robinson were interested in OU. More rumor: McClellan said if OU took either, he was out.

McClellan did the Sooners wrong straight up.

Redmond some sort of illness that never been publicly disclosed which made him miss time as a freshman. I think the speculation was sickle cell
I guess whatever it is isn’t making him at-risk
He has blood clots and apparently they've recurred in the past. IF they're recurrent (even if not now), it's very dangerous for him to play football ever again.

Written like he actually set this thing up during his recruit calls and is getting defensive about his work.
hello recruit, how are you today? Are you going to the sooner summit?
sooner summit? What’s that?
well let me tell you it’s just the biggest recruiting event of the year that caleb Williams is organizing. He said he wanted you there. He says it’s August 21 at wherever place.
/repeat
Yeah, he seems a little too invested.
It's almost like his job depends on an industry which may disappear for a year, and he's trying to maintain the investment of his subscribers despite no real information.

Who was the Moore that tore us a new asshole in the early 90s? I want to say he came from Yates HS in Houston? That's not the same guy?
He was ripping up people in the mid 2000 (above average OL on some good Stoops teams).

I honestly think we lead for both, and it's going to be a case of whoever commits first. If UT has a preference, they need to work the phones now and make it clear.
OU ending up without a top tier RB this year, after only getting McGowan last year, would be the strongest evidence of Murray's failings.
During OU's RB coaching search, I was hoping they'd get an alumnus, Sherron Moore. He would've been a less flashy hire, but he's someone who's done good work at Michigan.

Great for you to bring up something completely irrelevant to the topic!
