  1. Meanwhile, at Twitter: https://www.theverge.com/2023/7/7/23786988/twitter-ads-placeholder-bug-amazon-sky-tv
  2. So, in a matter of days, Musk rolls his eyes at the proclamation of Meta's sane leadership, then saying being on Twitter is preferable to be screamed at by strangers instead of comforting stuff from Instagram, to outright say Meta is cheating, and having his counsel send a strongly worded letter to Meta. Yeah, Musk and his acyolytes know the jig is up, they have no way to slow down the momentum Meta has with this, and are hoping for a legal roadblock.
  3. https://www.theverge.com/2023/7/6/23786011/people-are-posting-a-lot-on-threads This was published around 12:30 PM, for reference:
  4. Shit like this means there is genuine concern within Twitter.
  5. Mark my words; within the next week Elon will do something to Twitter that is drastic or stupid or both drastic and stupid. Threads might have 10 million users within a day. And many of those people, once they have migrated completely away from Twitter, ain't ever going back.
  6. From this article: you can't buy a blue check, there are no ads (at least for now) and a post/thread/whatever it is called will be limited to 500 characters: https://www.theverge.com/2023/7/5/23784870/instagram-threads-adam-mosseri-interview-twitter-competitor
  7. Dril made it over. https://www.threads.net/@dril_real
  8. Not yet. I saw a list of the major things Twitter has that aren't available yet, and it was 5 (hashtags, follow list, content search, edit button and characters remaining)
  9. Beats me, but Tom Brady is really Tom Brady, for instance.
  10. It went live at 6, and the NY Times, CBS, HBO, Washington Post (for instance) have all started posting content there.
  11. Alright, after a few minutes. Yeah, Twitter has a problem on their hands. There's a lot of celebs, companies and the like posting shit right now. I've seen one ad for some game, and not only can you block the account, you can block any future accounts associated with that account.
  12. Oh, it will work. If after all this it crashes in a spectacular fashion, Zuck will have everyone assassinated who was responsible. This is personal for Zuck, for whatever reason. From a tech standpoint, it looks like they are just taking Instagram, stripping out (or limiting) the multimedia capabilities, and limiting the number of characters per twee...er, thread (?). They already have existing (Instagram) users, and a sign up mechanism for new users. Server and bandwidth capacity shouldn't be an issue, so....it appears most of the work is already accomplished. Getting people to use the service will be the heavy lifting. And if they can cobble up some kind of dashboard like Tweetdeck, they will pull even more over. Really curious how much advertising this place has. Twitter is pretty bad right (every 3 tweets for me is some kind of ad, for some of the most worthless dreck).
  13. FYI, Meta moved up the launch of Threads from Thursday to today, 7 PM eastern. I'm guessing this will be the #1 downloaded app by Friday, if not sooner.
  14. Still amazing to me how many people have thrown away their careers, respectability and reputation for Donald Trump.

  16. Idle thoughts while mowing the lawn this afternoon. There's been a lot of talk about lack of moderation on Twitter. But if Twitter eventually becomes a full paid on service to access, will moderation even be needed? Point being; why the hell would Musk want to moderate a place where everyone who is there paid to be there? I know media companies will use the DMCA on Twitter, but aside from that, does Musk even legally need to have moderation if it is a pay site?
  17. Tweetdeck was the dark secret of using Twitter on a computer. Could see multiple tweet threads and whatnot....and without ads. Alas.
  18. Yeah, Zuckerberg sucks, but Elon needs bitch slapped over his Twitter moves with a valid competitor. Blue Sky and the like may get there someday, but they aren't ready. Meta can handle the load until something better comes along: https://www.threads.net
