Because there is not a reason for this team to have as many losses as it does. Still hoping (expecting) to get all of the crap out of the way now and start winning substantially all of the games we should.

our expected W/L is 16-21. 5 games under is a whole lot different than 11 games under.

Only the Red Sox have an expected win/ loss that’s 3 games better than their actual record right now.

The biggest driver is the luck can't stay bad forever and we are quickly approaching the time where we can have 1 Arrighetti or Brown start every other week if we don't act like pussies and just go to a 4 man rotation every time there is an off day.

This team would be just fine if the clown squad only started 1 game every other week in total.  Once Javier and Urquidy are back we don't have to start them ever again.  Garcia and LMJ are both throwing off mound.  Urquidy going to be in Corpus so 3putt can go see him down there and report back- get some luck and get rid of the horrific pitching that doesn't give you a chance and that's most of the battle.  Mix in a couple series against teams under 500 (all but 5 games have been against teams over 500- and no- that's not b/c they've all beaten up on the Astros- even taking our series with them out of their record that would still be true), stop being on pace to be the worst team by 100 runs not scored with a 110 wrc+ in 3 decades (that's mostly dumb ass shit luck) and this team is above average. If the back end of the bullpen can start pitching like the back of their baseball cards again this team fucks.

That's a lot of if's I guess but none of them are improbable.

    1) Schedule will get easier- 100%

    2) Enough pitchers getting healthy where we have few starts by scrubs- 85%

    3)  Better luck/runs scored matching how well we hit overall- 80% (if it's luck- slight chance that our guys- who have been to 7 LCS+ in a row are actually closet chokers but I'd bet no)

    4) Back end of the bullpen being shut down like we thought- 50%

That's it- that's the recipe.  Might be too late. But that's the case for optimism.

Who started this white Sox account ??

@Hank Chinaskiwouldn't shut up about the Lee trade last year.  Maybe he's not as dumb as he looks.   Also- amazeballs to see Maldy continue to be the worst player in baseball and get way more time than he deserves blocking a younger and much better player.  Of course- it's the worst organization in baseball and maybe the second dumbesst (I think Colorado is likely the dumbest) so it doesn't exactly scream good things about us that we did the same last year.

  3. Ok- I want everyone to ponder what happened in the third. It’s like a fucking baseball riddle that’s almost impossible to do.
a team gets a double, two singles, no Tootblans and no double plays and manages to score 0 runs- how does that happen?

if you can correctly answer that you move on to question 2 which the astros did earlier this year- a team ended an inning with only 2 plate appearances in the top half of an inning- how does that happen?

what's the scam here?  random text from an (857) number.  "I'm looking to buy a home in Carlsbad, can you help me"?   Says budget is 3 million, needs 4 bedrooms, etc.  Gives VERY Chinese name.

After a few texts says "do you have WhatsApp.  We can communicate there".

Seems scammy, but I cannot figure out the endgame.

I got the same thing the other day.  They sent me their bank statement with $4.5M in it. I told them to fuck off.  Literally.  Scumbags.

Where does Alex Bregman rank amongst 3rd basemen in MLB?

    .189 AVG (last)
    .268 OBP (2nd last)
    .252 SLG (last)
    .520 OPS (last)
    1 HR (T-last)
    11 RBIs (T-last)

    (minimum 97 AB)

    sucks the worst GIF

Now do infield popups smart guy.  Huh? He leads the world in those!

  6. I try not to read this thread very much.  They are literally too stupid to interact with or give any thought to.  That's not some sort of rivalry smack or anything like that. Hell, we eat our own around here and are harder on ourselves than maybe any other fanbase is on themselves.  They just fundamentally aren't tethered to reality and are incapable of logical or consistent thought.  It's pretty terrible to witness.

  7. I said at the time I’d like to have gone outside the organization for someone from another smart org for cross pollination or a different viewpoint/ or hired a guy that had proven they could handle a championship team. We did neither.
we used to be on the cutting edge in looking for little edges. I don’t know that we are innovative anymore.
we’ve also been incredibly unlucky(injuries and field of play) and to top it all off we’ve played exactly 5 games against teams with records under 500, and we are 4-1 in those games.
just a perfect storm of shit but man, doesn’t feel like we will ever be able to recover this year.

I'm not so sure.  Multiple orgs passed on him.  Certainly Bag/Brown/Crane are responsible for whats ON the field.  Espada keeps going with some shitty lineups.

When Charlie strong was hired by UT Scipio wrote a preview book and he had like a choose your own adventure where he wrote “the optimists case for Charlie strong, the pessimists case for Charlie strong and Charlie strong middle ground or some such”. When we did our pod after Espada was hired that was kind of how we handled it- I sort of bitched a little and said- eh- who knows. Didn’t like it. Figured it would be better than Dusty and you couldn’t fuck this team up. I’m not saying it’s his fault, but he’s pretty clearly not the guy either.

No shit? That isn’t a groundbreaking take. There’s also quite a gap between competence and the Wrecking Crew, which was a dominating defense at times during that period.

Elko is a solid defensive coach. ATM has okay starting talent and no depth on defense. They’ll do fine until guys get hurt against mediocre competition.

Agreed. That was my point in saying that- they will think they are getting the wrecking crew in reality they will get basic competence on that side of the ball, probably nothing special on the other side of the ball and finish in the middle of the conference, same as it ever was.
they will probably be boring though- missing even the train wreck component of that hayseed Smurf they just gave 75M to fuck off.

Of course all that is right, but as of right now, the only interest I have in this team is watching him. I’ve seen Meyers throw up all over himself for three years. When the towel gets thrown in I’m done watching all of them. I’m going fishing.

    And that's fair.

Just peruse the Missouri Valley and MAC All-Conference Honorable Mentions lists. Studs.

Elmer anticipates what I was thinking. They slowed down the clock and, when they had Mond, could move the ball fairly consistently.

I'm assuming Elko is a very solid defensive coach, but their silly dreams about last century's wrecking crew will never come true. Offenses have changed and bags don't have a unique quality to attract top talent like they did back in the FedEx days.

My suspicion is that they will be competent on defense.

Pena. The cleanup hitter we didn’t know we needed. Bregman hitting 6. Could be lower as far as I’m concerned. And any lineup with Meyers in it is not a serious lineup. But he’s right handed bat and we are going against a left hander. This is the hand we have been dealt. I wanted to see Loperfido with the short porch. Maybe tomorrow against another righthander. Should have played yesterday.

There’s a decent chance Loperfido will never be a good hitter at the mlb level and a better chance he won’t be right now.
I’m fine with waiting for him to get everyday AB’s after we throw in the towel in 3 weeks and go to next year mode after Memorial Day.

What mystifies me about these kinds of takes is that Elko isn't some new addition at ATM. The guy was there for four years, hammering the buffet lines and happy hours. He made a dent in the College Station GDP with his presence alone. He had a chance to "resurrect the WC" the first time around. Why did he not do it then but he's going to do it now? Was Jimbo Fisher also quietly holding back the defense's true potential? That guy really is the Alpha and Omega for aggie failure of late, I guess.

They were pretty decent on defense relative to their talent level under him, right?  Not great but ok.

  14. I have no problem with caratini. I liked the signing and I liked what I’ve seen from him so far.
There’s absolutely nothing in the numbers that suggest Diaz shouldn’t ever be allowed to catch JV or Framber. Fuck em they don’t get to pitch like shit and dictate who they pitch to.

To be fair, as a lender, this is one reason I think about leaving the business. The money is not great in this market, but the way I'm treated by some, especially some realtors, makes me think about finding a different career path. To be clear, I don't mind clients shopping or realtors sending their business to whomever they want, but being berated for not making [things out of my control] happen. The juice is not worth the squeeze. People treat anyone in a service role like shit these days.

I hate to hear that as your experience.  I love my job.  I love almost all my clients.  I like helping them.  My referral partners are pretty good people for the most part.  This stuff was not how things usually go down and really not that big a deal in the grand scheme of things but it wasn't the greatest 1/2 punch ever.  It was 1.2M in volume all told. Win some/lose some but yeah- what your describing sucks- have you thought about why that's happening?  Are you working with referral partners that are assholes?  Desperate people can suck for sure.  Lots of people have left the business- you seem like a guy that should not leave the business with the success you've had during some pretty hard times.

What would you have said if I told you before the season that on May 7 Meyers and Peña would have a higher SLG than Yordan?

Yordans expected slug is like 200 points higher than his actual slug.

I don't think most clients view their interaction with you as a relationship, all conversation notwithstanding.   It's all bullshit.  You are a dispensary.  Like a coke machine.  One that requires emails and phone calls.

I guess. I don’t mean that we are friends or anything in that sense of the word, but yeah, you are completely right for some.
it’s a great gig and I’ve actually formed real relationships with some of my borrowers and a bunch of advisor client relationships.

    Congrats on the big month!

Send him an invoice for the credit report and credit repair 😂

    Thanks.
If ever there was a time to get fired twice in the span of 2 days it was this time for sure.
It’s just startling to me that someone would go ingrate over $10 a month in a 9 month relationship and that the other person would throw away certainty to close.

  19. Just got fired twice in the last 2 business days.
one a guy I’d worked with on a new build (so I was expecting fuckery) for about 9 months- got the credit up- for him qualified when they couldn’t blah blah blah, and he left over $10 a month.
the other guy that just fired me was turned down a couple different places until I got him approved (had a lender make 2 exceptions about some difficult stuff while we were shopping and that got his debt ratio down to 49.8) because he got offered 1/4 of a point better. Now- his wife was on the job self employed 18 months and they are a super slam dunk easy loan once they file taxes in 25 and I told him I’d pay all his fees and refinance him for free at my cheapest lender at that time.
$924.00 on his timeline is what it will cost him.
I never get fired. I was on my way to the biggest month I’d had since early 2022 so it’s not that big a deal (the other 10 people I’ve got locked for May haven’t fired me yet!) I’m sitting here with a bemused smile on my face.
Question for the board (if this guy who’s been turned down multiple times comes back should I close him?
