  1. His role is less like Carrington and more like Derek Chang. He's good at his job but his lore at Aggy is built because he had a welcome kit of the 247 guys when Hamm was there and he treated them like they were people instead of 9.95ers so Hamm has worshipped him since then.

To be fair, they desperately need this guy because as we saw down the stretch Jimbo's path/recruiting stops were non-sensical and cost him time with better and more viable options.

  2. Aggy has offered another 2021 OT.

    https://247sports.com/player/erick-cade-46051698

That's 5 in-state and 1 OSS offer at OT for 2021. That's putting a lot of trust in the evaluations from The Marine.

I get that you want a lead in these recruitments but I am not a huge fan of super early offers to the bigs. I'm one of those guys that wants a slot on OL and DL left for a very late riser/grower in every class with big guys, post-Senior season late.  I'd rather take a chance on a projectable body and a late bloomer with a lot of athleticism than a guy who flashed at 14 and hasn't changed much as a player since.

Any idea where Young would be ranked nationally?

#1 DT QB -- #7 Cali player - #38 player overall  (via 247) -- so he's going to be a high 4* from the jump.

    for comparison -- Card is #2 DT - #20 in Texas - #167 nationally.

His dad being known as a helicopter dad predates him being an aggy commit. Was I overstating his influence? Perhaps, maybe I should have said nudge or advise instead of push. Also, there are different degrees of helicopter dads, and some can be mostly harmless while others can torpedo program. Again, perhaps I'm off on his influence here, although I haven't read anyone yet who seems to have a great beat on this recruitment. I do find it very interesting, and hope he ends up at Arkansas, rather than at A&M, tOSU, or LSU.

Oh yeah. Pops is a pain in the ass but he's not the reason that Grant isn't at Aggy. For sure. I'd be surprised if he didn't end up at tOSU - just looking at how QBs are lining up around the country. Having said that, I'd love for him to be at Arky - for the LULZ short and long-term.

I could see his helicopter dad pushing him towards whichever team of the bunch has the clearest avenue towards early playing time

the helicopter dad is an Aggy-created myth and utter bullshit. Not saying his old man isn't a pain in the ass but this idea that he's steering and controlling this recruitmentand that he is the reason Gunnell isn't still an Aggy is fallacy, he isn't at Aggy because Jimbo continued to talk out of both sides of his mouth in terms of dual-threat QBs. Period. If his dad was fully in control of his recruitment he'd already be committed to Arky.  (or he'd have grabbed tOSU spot the moment it was offered, though I guess he could pull the trigger up there this weekend).

What's holding back Leal in the rankings. Most in-the-know posters have been saying he's the top player in the state for some time now. Why isn't that being reflected in the composite rankings?

I think it's a mix of a few things. 247 needs to re-eval Texas because they still have Kenyon Green at the top, FFS. ESPN has Leal at 10 and Rivals has him at 25. I think he'll obviously climb in all of those but scheme fit and his college (re: NFL) position are a question as his skill set and size are in-between for a lot of schemes. He's not going to be a bursty up-the-field rusher at DE and he's not going to be on the nose whipping double teams. He's a freakish athlete that is a good fit at Texas because he could play 4i in early downs and slide in to play DT in passing/blitzing packages. I don't know how he fits playing a traditional 4 man front -- as 3 or 5 tech DT or a DE and his ranking may reflect that. He's also hurt on Rivals by the fact that he never gave a squirt of piss about OU.

Where are you guys getting this "no visit" policy of Jimbo's?  Is that being reported on any Aggie site?

Asking because I haven't come across that.

Aggy sites not reporting it and read into it what you will but all of the 7on7 coaches and trainers have been made aware.

  8. It's fucking RiverRat, we could be hosting the entire top 247 and if 3* Meathead VonWhoopdeag OT from Katy didn't show, he'd have the same narrative.

There are guys that haven't even left their house that will be here  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That's a long way to come down to Texas to enjoy some Washington weather. :\

Info from Washington's 247 site after a visit there ::

Hatchett said he's planning on a trip to the eastern part of the state to check out Washington State and then he'll head down to Oklahoma for their spring game and he'll also make a swing into the Lonestar State to visit Texas and Texas A&M.

"With Washington State, I will either go next week or for their Junior Day, I am not quite sure yet," Hatchett noted. "I'm excited to get down to Texas to check things out down there and of course I have family in Oklahoma, so it'll be great to get back there to check them out again and see their spring game.

"I'm planning on visiting (UW) at least one or two more times before the end of the spring and I know coach Huff will be up to see me this spring. I am also looking at the Dirt Dawgs camp in June, but I'm still working out my schedule with baseball and other things, but I want to get down for that camp again because I feel like I learned a lot last year."

Hatchett is rated as a four-star prospect and is ranked the number five offensive guard in the country and number 156 overall by 247 in the 2020 class.

God, Green is just fucking surrounded by aggy.

Not unlike Stripling. His fucking little brother is the biggest Aggy cockblock working against us. I think Stripling would be much more amiable to Texas if it weren't for Curtis, not to mention that whole Mayde Creek (re: Katy Highway Holla!) echo chamber effect.

Smart move by aggy to bring in Shepherd on Friday to talk him out of coming to our spring game. We should have done the same with a few guys last weekend.

Never going to happen. Herman, Chang, and the rest of the entire staff do not and will not operate from a base of fear. Even if the 16-18 year old kids don't know at the top of mind that a move like that is motivated wholly by fear, it is there and the underlying question becomes what are they keeping me from? Herman and staff are much more likely to encourage a kid to make all his visits and ask all the questions than to deny him or try to get him to avoid a trip in April.

  12. I like the number of Ags that are responding about how crappy Koda Martin was and how he wasn't even on the depth chart etc ... despite this article today from the Houston Chronicle highlighting Martin as the starting LT.  Also note that he started 10 games last year and they don't have anyone to replace him.

  13. Hmm, I was thinking that it would be 3 CB, possible 1 NB type, and 2 S (with a spot always open for Hill). Help me out with the numbers you grabbed 3 legit S in 2018 (and already have Morris and Jones in the fold in 2019) and 2 CBs in 2018, I assume that Taylor will be a WR and Robinson will play in the slot, right? As will Crawford? Any chance that this 2019 class pushes Taylor to get a look on the defense? Or perhaps Crawford a look at CB? Otherwise it would seem like 2 CBs would be a bit light over 3 classes. (2017-2019)

If we end up getting Haselwood and holding what we have that will be the best WR class I've ever seen, I believe.

Would be an insane haul and that's even with the fact that I don't think Henderson will ever have an impact. Wease is a beast. Bridges is a goddamn football player and Haselwood is just waiting out his draft status. I think it would be one of the best hauls since probably one of those Pete Carrol teams at USC, and those were closing on the kinds of classes that Bowden stacked at FSU where back up CBs and WRs that didn't play at FSU played in the NFL for 10 years.

  15. Yeah, that closes the books on Steele as well. He'll be a Sooner. Going to be interesting to see what happens with the rest of the DB class for OU. Esp. with Steele in. I'd guess that the spots are starting to shrink up and that one of the TX/LA guys out of Carter, Bush, Young, Banks, or Wolfe better grab a spot soon or be on the outside looking in the way O'Neal was last year. Will be super interesting to see if TCU starts to turn up the heat on the DBs as well, now that things are starting to line up.
