Dwight Gooden was the best pitcher I’ve ever seen.  Doing great things over a period of time matters.

no, no it doesn't. not in this discussion. unless of course you think that Bartolo Colon and  Tim Hudson were better pitchers than Sandy Koufax and Doc Golden, in which case at least you're consistent.

This guy is another level.  Legit potential for top 5 all time.  Not much to say, I’m no fanboy but I’ll recognize greatness...

i agree. that's what i was thinking earlier- i was wondering where Dirk would rank among the best players in the league during his peak; and even during his MVP season i really don't see an argument that he was ever the best player in the league. Luka is still a baby who is playing in an era where still-young stars like Giannis, Jokic, Embiid, KAT, Zion, Ja, etc all play, along with no shortage of all-time greats like LBJ, KD, CP3, Harden etc who are still active, and yet Luka appears to be a guy who will be a top 3 player in the league for the next decade+. Luka is in a different stratosphere than Dirk ever was, and nobody who isn't from DFW would say otherwise.

  3. 2007: Whoa whoa whoa, let's tap the breaks on saying that Kevin Durant is better than Terrence Rencher; Rencher was here for four years, KD just got here!!!

god i hate it when people bring up longevity in a comparison of player talent and ability. as if everything Luka has done might be fool's gold; like maybe he starts sucking never heat and never recovers. you're confusing "greater" with "better". stahp.

Better than Dirk? He did it for a few decades and carried an underdog team to a NBA title and you want to say a 2nd year player is better? Tap the brakes. You want to say is Luka ahead of Dirk in his 2nd year than Dirk was his 2nd year? Or will Luka in the end be better than Dirk?

But to say Luka right now is already better than Dirk was at his peak is ludicrous. Don't get caught up in the moment when judging a 2 decade career to a less than 2 year career.

Luka is better than Dirk and it's not even remotely close. The difference is laughable, and "longevity!!!!" is not a legit argument in Dirk's favor. Doncic is already superior to Dirk in nearly every facet of the game. This argument is so tired and stupid by now, it would be like screaming and getting upset at anyone who said in 1999 that Randy Moss was better than Steve Largent or Art Monk; it's not even remotely close. Maybe Luka has a Livingston type injury tomorrow and never plays again; doesn't change the fact that today he is better at playing basketball than Dirk ever was, and it is not even a little bit close.

another preposterous stat line for Luka. 36 pts, 14 boards, 19 assists....2 turnovers. Against the Bucks. Dudes fun to watch.

so uh, are we allowed to say that he's better than Dirk yet, or is the jury still out?

i had this on in the background but wasn't paying attention. so THAT was why the announcers were making such a big deal about "poor Cueto" when that happened. brutal.

I was referring to the fact that as long as Abe has been gone, he still knows more than you. BTW, just because you know peolpe doesn't mean that you have a clue about hoops.

which is why i don't go around crowing about how my cousin is super connected with the players on the team. in fact that was the exact point i was making after dallasguy played the "my cousin" card for the tenth time; i know people too, but constantly running my mouth about it won't make anything i say carry more weight, especially if all i'm ever doing is insulting and attacking every "fucc boi" (using this unironically is really something else) who has a different opinion.

state your opinion; back it up as best as you can with stats, facts, and empirical data; enjoy the discussion, and don't take it too seriously. we're literally talking about where a bunch of kids might go play school in the future. it's not that big of a deal.

  8. Shouts out to Todd Wright for doing the impossible and keeping Embiid and Simmons healthy for four years. Sucks for Philly that Jerry West scooped him up in an effort to keep Kawhi and PG healthy. Pretty great for LAC though.

But hey, at least he does funny voices during in-game interviews.

just saw this on MLBN. wow. he's been bad for awhile now, but this is something spectacular. it's one of those rare times where Joe Baseball Fan can say, "I could do better than that" and actually be right.

  10. also, as for these hyper aggressive Dallas guys who keep bragging about their connections, let's run down what we have here:

you have a cousin, who is friends with some players on the team, and apparently you think that Shaka and staff keep all of their players totally tuned in to the program's recruiting comings and goings. those players then get in touch w your cousin, who then tells you what's what, so that you can come here and tell all of us what's what. yup, sounds super plausible and air tight.

meanwhile all i have is dozens of lifelong, first hand connections to the program, including countless current and former players, coaches, SID's, AD's, pxp guys, you name it, as well as a relationship with the player in question, PLUS, a metric shot ton of circumstantial evidence (you know, like KU, BU, TTU, Rick Pitino, etc all trying to sign KJ) which all points towards KJ spurning Texas, and not the other way around. hmm, tough call on what to believe here. could go either way.

  11. "doesn't think KJ is very good", lmao. quick, someone tell Chris Beard or Bill Self to hire this guy's friend! i mean they, along with every other coach and recruiting service in the country thought that KJ >>> Brock, but hey, your friend is tapped into the Austin basketball scene!

it's so funny how there wasn't a negative word said about KJ, nor a single thing about how Texas didn't want him, until after he chose to go to Kansas. the truth is that KJ's game and physical attributes have all clearly improved over the last year, only KJ isn't 6'9" or 6'10" like people projected him to be at this stage, so he's dropped in the rankings. thats it. his play for both his AAU and HS teams speaks for itself- he's the best player/alpha dog on Team Griffin, which has a ton of D-1 talent on it, including Damion Collins, who we all still like/want to come to Texas- that is, unless he commits to OU, in which case he sucks and we never wanted him anyway, right?

the tape, the stats, the W/L record, the work ethic, the physique, the fact that he led a team of short white kids who will never play ball after HS to a 33-2 record last year- anyone who thinks that he's "not very good" shouldn't be taken seriously, even if he's your friend.

Goddamnit the recruiting thread used to be a place Derka didn’t dwell

yeah, i'm what's bad about this thread, and not these weirdo "fucc bois" who keep angrily threatening everyone who disagrees with them and bragging about how their cousin is friends with some players. jesus.

edit- oh and a great addition to the thread on your part. self awareness is clearly your strong suit.

  14. that's another thing about this crazy, fucked up, truncated, probably-not-gonna-finish-anyway season: we have doubled down on changing our league for 2020. not only is it roto this year, but it's a 60 game season with a very real possibility of never being completed. if you aren't at the top of the table and one of your good players gets sick, you may as well trade spam all of the top teams with offers for him, seeing as they can absorb the 2-3 week hit and you can't. it's an absolute sprint, as opposed to a 5 month marathon. plus you can be a little extra cavalier with your moves because of the time constraints (as evidenced by all of the high draft picks who are currently struggling and have been dropped).  shit is mad crazy yo.

  15. @huge nothing wrong with the offer, i just don't have anywhere to play him. if one of my OF were to get hurt/sick we'd have a deal. just something to consider should that happen.

  16. we can go back and forth on this all day, so i'll just say this and call it a night. consider KJ's stats, resume, hometown, rankings, and connections to the UT basketball program, and you decide what you think happened. to recap KJ Adams' connections to UT Basketball:

•Was offered by Texas as a freshman and has taken in more games/unofficial visits than any other recruit we have

•He went to school with/has a relationship with Jarrett Allen

•He is a member of the "Hedgehog Fam", a small group of friends comprised of elite basketball players including Greg Brown III and Jaxson Hayes

•Went to school with and was teammates with Will Baker and Brock Cunningham

•His personal trainer is Jessica Vaiana, the same woman who personally trains Sam Ehlinger.

•Adams/Ehlinger/Vaiana train at Train 4 The Game, the gym in Westlake that's owned by former UT basketball S&C coach Todd Wright

•Adams spent lots of time personally training with Justin Mason at T4TG

•Adams worked out with many other UT/former UT athletes at T4TG

all of that, and then when KJ Adams commits to Kansas it comes out that "we didn't want him anyway; we moved on from him a while back." make your own decision based on these facts. if you still believe that Texas just stopped recruiting Adams while all of the best teams in the Big XII stayed after him, then I've got some ocean front property in Arizona that i'd like to sell you.
