  1. Re-engaging Wheaton at this point would likely tick off LJ and potentially cause you to miss both. I think Bijan has become close with LJ as well, so I don't see us pursuing Wheaton unless we get a firm no from LJ. But if LJ is enrolling early, you'd still have time to circle back for a last ditch effort on Wheaton I guess, although I'd say our odds would be very low. But if Tosh is hired and that's how we play it, I suppose anything is possible.
  2. Johnson, who played WR for Ball State in 2016-2019, spent last year working as a water boy at Oregon State." Guess we know who will be in charge of the pee chart next year.
  3. Think we still will hopefully ink Ibraheem as well assuming we are comfortable with the latest story that his involvement was indeed limited. But he and LJ are the main ones off the top of my head. Maybe some surprises last minute if the new coaches can flip others that they have been in contact with through their other jobs.... Other than that I hope we try to save as many roster spots for the transfer portal which will give us a bigger bang for the buck in this transition year.
  4. Players only meeting? Unpossible! I was told Sam was the only leader on the team.
  5. How many more years does Saban have? If these guys think it is 3 or less, then why not go to Texas for a 3 year guaranteed deal with a raise. I bet Saban is a beating to work for. Working at Bama seems like working at a hedge fund. You learn a lot, but it takes years off your life.
  6. Isn't Saban one of the first big "Process" guys. I heard Sark allude to that in the presser a couple times if I recall. Seems like dealing with addiction also kind of falls into that category of just trusting the process, going about your business and then the end results (winning, or staying sober) will just be the byproduct. Hopefully for him personally, and the team, he'll be successful with both. I just hope his process is a bit different from Jason Garrett's process.
  7. Agree to disagree. I don't know them personally. But Blake sure seemed to enjoy all the attention. I can pretty much guarantee they still take a ton of trips to other campuses and more than likely get wooed and pitched and still end up at Alabama rather than take on faith that a 1st year Coach XYZ at Texas is finally going to be the correct hire and turn things around. This was a business decision for them. Pure and simple. All that other garbage was a smokescreen. "Oh we want to go someplace with great academics, blah blah blah".... Yeah right. If any of that were true, they never end up at Bama no matter who the Texas coach is. There are better combination of academic and football schools available if that was the case. This was pure and simply about getting to the next level. And Bama was the choice.
  8. I'm not sure that would have been as easy of a slam dunk as you think. They absolutely hated Herman and I'm sure that factored in significantly, along with the fact that they didn't want Hand coaching them. But, clearly getting drafted is their main concern, which is understandable. Nothing we hypothetically we would have done last offseason would have changed how they viewed Alabama. So whoever we had hired as Head Coach and offensive line coach last season, it still wouldn't be able to compare to the factory that is Bama in regards to getting kids drafted. There is a lot of other stuff that Bama has in place that Sark will hopefully try to replicate, whether it be strength and conditioning, the mental coaches they employ, the nutrition, etc. etc. I mean let's face it, they are a machine. Just getting rid of Herman doesn't make us = to Bama in the Brocks eyes I don't think. I honestly think Bama was a pretty easy choice for them, and having a different head coach at Texas wouldn't have been enough to overlook all their perceived benefits of going to Alabama.
  9. "Several Players" is the part that caught my attention. Maybe they were all pissed at Herman and thought he was going to stay? Don't know. But something sounds really rotten.
  10. I hope the new staff can figure out who all the malcontents are and either get them in line or wish them luck somewhere else. That read like more than one member on the team specifically heard that the guy was going to portal here, and actively went out of their way to seek him out and to dissuade him. That's pretty crazy. If you're that miserable here, then just leave. Don't try to sabotage it from the inside out.
  11. Ash needs to have better athletes than the other team and just focuses on playing good solid fundamental football. He isn't up to par with his scheme. He's ok in college because most offensive teams beat themselves and can't put together long drives. But he'd get eaten alive in the NFL IMHO.
  12. Yeah, that could be a possibility. He had success with the Bears when he was in NFL the first time. And, I don't get the impression that he loves investing a bunch of time in recruiting. I'd honestly be ok if that happened. Might be best for all involved. We could bring in a rainmaker at RB coach, and the team couldn't get mad because we didn't fire Drayton, he went to the league.
  13. When does the 1 yr free transfer window open up? I think that is much more important than signing day 2 for us. So depending on when that opens up, not sure 1 week makes that much of a difference. If it takes an extra week in order for Sark to get the title game behind him and get the right staff in place, then I'd prefer he take his time instead of rushing honestly.
  14. Because who knows when he'll actually retire. Those guys have to be burned out at the end of each year, but then a little down time and R&R and they get themselves geared up for Spring Ball again. Same situation when Muschamp was coach in waiting here. Mack kept pushing it off and coming back. Nothing is guaranteed. Sticking around for potentially taking over Bama at some point is worth turning down South Carolina. It's not worth turning down Texas.
  15. He's had to cover for multiple assistant coaches that also were recruiting our brand. Our brand doesn't mean very much right now. Samples seems to have done pretty well for himself with SMU brand getting in the door on some pretty big time recruits that should have no business talking to SMU. It is definitely a skill. One that certainly becomes easier with winning and putting kids in the draft. But that hasn't exactly been happening here lately. I'd like to see what BC is capable of doing if he had some tailwinds instead of headwinds for once. What argument to recruits do you think he should have made that would have overcome all the "your coaches don't develop talent and they are all going to get fired soon" narrative. One man can only be so persuasive. I'm not going to pretend that I know all the "Carringtons" at other schools, but man I find it hard to believe that there are more than a handful or two of other non-coaches that have been able to build relationships with kids as well as he seemingly does.
  16. Sark said it best. Staffing is like a puzzle. You can't have a team of all good coaches who are not good recruiters. You can't have all great recruiters without the skills to coach them up. Giles has a place as he can certainly coach. But he has deficiencies in recruiting that needed to be covered up by Carrington. Depending on the other coaches, I'd be ok retaining him. But I'd also be ok if Sark brought in someone else as well. I do like what Hutzler has done this year. And quite honestly I think Vallai has done a decent job and seems to be a plus recruiter. He's no Raymond obviously, but I'd be ok retaining him if we can't poach Raymond. On offense you let Sark hire whoever he wants/needs to get his system in place. Ideally, that includes keeping Drayton for some continuity and to keep Bijan happy. But he's far from a rainmaker at the RB spot which is often times the recruiting coordinator and able to help out other position groups as well for other schools. So depending on the rest of the staff's strengths, he may or may not be a good fit going forward. I have no idea if it'd be even a remote possibility, but I wonder if it'd be worth a shot kicking the tires on Elko. Someone yesterday said he was going to talk with ND again about returning. Surely we could pay more than them. Aggies would match whatever we offered, and probably 150% to keep him away from us. But if he just wants to get out of college station, it could be a fit. He's built up some solid ties in state now and could hit the ground running recruiting wise too. No idea if he'd want to work for Sark though.
  17. I think he is at his best when he plays the game. He wasn't allowed to play the game when he was here. He was substantially more successful prior to and after his time here. So depends on how good we want to do at recruiting, but given some of the other names being tossed out, I assume he'd be able to potentially have more tools at his disposal this time around....allegedly.
  18. Sark might not be a slam dunk. But at least this buys me a few years of not having to worry about telling the little voice in my head cheering for us to lose to shut up.
  19. The defensive side was good but the Offensive side was really, really shaky. Really bad. And keeping Herman would have led to a terrible 2022 class as well. Short of Urban, there was no slam dunk replacement, but a change was absolutely needed. The one area I'm most hopeful with Sark is on the recruiting front. If he is a disaster here and we're looking for a new coach in 4 years yet again, at least hopefully he'll be able to keep the talent level up for Traylor to take the reigns.
  20. I didn't remember that. Thanks for pointing that out. Hopefully something will happen soon then, I'm tired of this and ready to argue about what assistant coaches we should be retaining and complaining about why we should be able to get better ones than who actually does get hired.
  21. Once Herman is fired, it'll be a week minimum before press conference announcing new the coach. Public state job has to be posed for a minimum amount of time before being officially filled. Not sure exactly how long, but there will be no press conference anytime soon announcing Meyer or anyone else on 1/4. You could very well start to hear rumblings and be pretty confident it is happening fairly soon after termination, but nothing official this quickly. But firing Herman and having all the media speculation and talking about Meyer in particular if indeed he is on board leading up to the title game would still be beneficial publicity. On the flip side, you don't want stories about how Meyer turned us down again, and then Campbell did too because he loves the midwest, and UT had to settle for it's 3rd or 4th choice. So if Herman is fired today, we have a firm yes from someone already in my opinion. Now it might in actuality be our 3rd choice, and we might give Meyer one last chance quietly circling back before finalizing a deal with someone else. But having waited this long before firing him has to mean that they will have some new coach everyone is comfortable hiring that has agreed to come. And that fits the narrative that came out from the 9.95ers the other day as well. We'll see. Hope the axe falls today, but not holding my breath.
  22. Yeah. I mean who cares about how many points we give up. Or how much we score. Screw wins and losses. I mean hell, as long as we pass the eye test. I agree that our defense was better this year than last. My point being, let's not start sucking our own d!cks yet because we've gone down this road before when everyone was thinking Orlando was the answer, only to find out that he wasn't.
  23. As far as I can tell it's for either A) damage control so that we can control the narrative as we can try to find a coach that'll actually come here without having several of them publicly turning us down over and over and it appearing as though we have to settle on our 5th choice, or B) we are waiting for Urban because he dictates the timeline even though we have an oral agreement or C) we are waiting for Campbell or someone else who's team is still playing "meaningful games" to have their season end. But bottom line is we are not wanting to leave our d!cks swinging in the wind without a replacement already basically in place. At least I hope those are the only reasons. Some would have you believe that Herman will be our coach next season. I pray they are mistaken.
  24. It's always a no until it becomes a yes. Unless in Waco, then a no is a yes no matter what.
