  1. I remember both of those plays vividly.  Underrated plays when considering the entirety of his Longhorn career, but they showed how just a couple games into his true freshman season that he was going to be a special player for us.

No doubt. He could play physical for his size. And the Hawk hit in that environment was pretty awesome and memorable.

And as a side note in that game, he had another modest run weaving in and out of traffic that was awesome to see from the end zone view. From that view, there were no holes to run through. He had to make moves at each level to create those yards.

There are certain guys that have a unique characteristic that makes them fun to watch. That’s JC. A strong runner for his slight frame with great vision and unmatched acceleration out of a cut.
  2. Jamaal is one of the most underappreciated players ever. The knee injuries will ultimately keep him out, but he deserves it. He was crazy special. I love watching his highlights... the NFL  highlights are just as sick as the college ones. What he did athletically at the position was unprecedented.

    Two plays come to mind.

Knocking the piss out of AJ Hawk after the pick. AND….

the most under appreciated play of all time in the context of what it may have done for us. Late in the 1st half versus tOSU. Catches a pass but rather than immediately go out of bounds to stop the clock he cuts upfield for enough yards to get us in FG range before half. We don’t get that FG, our chances of winning decrease quite a bit.

the question was rookie qbs , not where they were drafted. Scroll up if you need to.  Bottom line is that a healthy Qb2 plays , not QBRetiredHOFertobe. This is the common mode of operations.  I think Sam gets picked up by another team soon.

The Colts aren’t letting Sam goes easily at this point.

Rivers was a Colt under Reich.  They could have reached out as insurance.  Maybe Reich and Rivers speak on occasion.  Who knows.

But why? Every game yesterday was infinitely more entertaining and enjoyable than either playoff game.

Bowl games kick ass.  Not all of them but many of them.  But you have to be a football fan.  And people do care.  The players do care.  I’ve been to several bowls over my life.   They were all enjoyable.  Well, one was kinda crappy.  The crappiest thing about them is generally being relegated to crappy seats.

He had a good career but a very slow start due to that injury. He had to change the way he played and never had the same explosive burst that he had in Miami.

Now that was the championship game so nobody should ever sit that out, But if you're in the who gives a crap bowl it makes sense to sit out if you're considered a draftable player

I’d ask you here.  Do you think Terrell Bernard last night increased his draft value?  I mean he whipped SEC butt.  Do you believe he was previously draftable?

my guess he did.  He also gets an unbelievable experience that he’ll never forget.

Not a sprained ankle but the Miami running back that shredded his knee against Ohio state in the championship game in I think 2001, and Jaylen Smith are 2 examples. Neither became the player they were projected to be and Jaylen Smith became so unathletic as a result of the drop foot he became a joke and is no longer in the league.

There are tons of guys that don’t meet their projections for a variety of reasons. And injuries can happen off the field too so probably ought to stop working out.  Then you have dudes like Sergio Kindle.  From listening to Cowboys fans Smith was a sorry football player.  But he should have cash and connections to do just fine.

We’re paying dudes now so insure em for catastrophic shit but only for career ending type stuff.  People get why dudes opt out, but that doesn’t mean other opinions don’t have validity.

And Corral going down is exactly the reason so many players are opting out and it will only get bigger. Especially in meaningless scrimmage bowl games that have no bearing on any championship. Just a bowl to make the fat cats richer and ESPN getting more revenue. Draft status and their earning power >>>>> meaningless bowl game. But of course all the couch potato fans and analysts who are paid mouthpieces for the sport try and ridicule and talk down on these players who choose this and call them selfish. Gtfo.

If they’re already making cash money, then it’s fair to chew their ass.

Perhaps you watched Terrell Bernard make some money tonight.

Career ending injuries are not all that common.

I would have to think that if you had the 12 team format that talent would eventually spread itself out more evenly as you’d have to think more regional powers would evolve if there was a much better chance to make a playoff appearance by winning your conference. As good as Saban is the stockpiling of talent is a bigger advantage than anything else. Change that and it becomes a much more balanced sport and guys can take chances on going places other than The top 6 or 8 schools out there.
make winning the conference important. Give the G5 schools an entry to building. A dynasty and program the way Gonzaga has been allowed to bc of the nature of making the NCAA tournament and things would be more fun, I think.

Honestly I think a high school recruit has the playoff well down the list of reasons they sign - current money in the pocket, playing time, NFL aspirations.

how in the hell did the Aggies get such a recruiting class?  Only one reason.  Let’s be honest, why would anyone want to sign with us?  There are reasons but money separates us.

Moving forward the stockpiling of talent will likely become less balanced.  Only those willing and able to play at the highest of levels will win out.  Who gives a shit if Jackson State grabs a guy.  It takes a team of mercenaries to beat a team of mercenaries consistently.

Saban is a great coach, but he’s doing what he is because the SEC does what they can to overrun everyone else but more importantly the NCAA ignores the bullshit that mostly the SEC chooses to engage in.  All that results in the stockpiling of talent.

  9. Let’s not forget Little Lincoln Riley saved OU upon his arrival at OU.  Not from out shitty depths, but their offense was struggling and pretty quickly got it headed back positively.  Then Stoops retired in part because he believed in Riley but also because they hit a lull.

You wouldn’t like to see him coach a team again? Not against UT because we already learned we can’t beat him. Mostly. @Aqua Buddhahe has poured a ton of his money into cancer research too.

That’s the least he can do for teaching young men to break rules to get ahead and rewarding abuse of power.  The money for cancer thing.

  11. I am not sure why you dont think the OL played better. Using TFLs as the only barometer is very odd. Texas had 4 games where they gave up more TFL's per rush than the KSU game (ISU, Ark, OSU, OU). I would believe most fans that saw those 4 games would agree the OL was better vs KSU. Main difference being the OL averaged 4.75 yards per carry.  My point was the defense made stops in the KSU game, so the offense did not have much pressure. In fact Texas was never down more than 1 pt in the 2nd half. Texas had issues in the 2nd half all year, because the defense generally withered away and died in the 2nd half (Texas was 107th in 2nd half pts allowed) and the offense collapsed on the pressure to score every drive. Complimentary football is thrown around  a lot and doesnt mean much. VS OU it meant score on every possession for the offense. VS KSU, it meant avoid turnovers and play conservative. Very odd that people say the offense didnt play complimentary football this year, but think the defense giving up score after score in the 2nd half of games was holding up their end of the complimentary football argument. I think complimentary football is an excuse the majority of the time it is used, mostly to shield one unit from scrutiny. Never heard the term mentioned when both units play at a high level.

I’ve been an ardent supporter of the Oline for the entirety of the season. I’ve never said they were great or dominant, but they’ve had fits of being damn good throughout the entirety of the season. My point has been they aren’t shitty. And sometimes when they look that way it’s other non-Oline dudes. Then yes there is the far too often whiff at Tackle.

The run blocking stats are favorable and were prior to KState. TFLs are legit numbers and not some grading subject to bias of the grader. I backed out the sacks to arrive at my numbers. We were talking about the run game so that’s why I did that. It’s possible there are some pass plays mixed in the TFL numbers too. Once you do that, we had 8 TFLs against us at KSU in 43 rushing attempts. 8 out of 37 vs Pig. 4 out of 30 vs OSU. 2 out 23 vs OU. 2 of 25 vs BU. 3 of 30 vs ISU. Even including sacks KSU looks to be the second worst game for negative plays. We were good vs Rice and Tech. Then Okafor goes down, and we move Kerstetter inside.

We are ranked 13th overall in Stuff Rate. That rate worsened due to the KSU game. Average line yards was top 15 for the season.

We may have blocked better versus KState, but there are verifiable numbers that say otherwise. And it wasn’t substantially better if it was.

I’m not excusing the defense because well you can’t. Yes, they finally made a play. Or 3 or 4. And Coburn impacted 3 of those. I’m not certain that was anything but a team who couldn’t or wouldn’t throw the ball. And if it’s anybody but Deuce on at least one of those carries, they likely convert one.
  12. Just going to go out on a limb here. The defense gave up 35.5 pts a game vs the P5. The wildcat offense scored 22. That isnt an amazing output. I know, it was a "winning offense".  This maybe some bat shit crazy thinking, but perhaps the defense giving up 18.5 less pts than average (17 pts) gave Sark the ability to be patient on offense.

We played complementary “winning” football. The defense was aided by a poor backup QB who couldn’t throw. 22 points is nothing great but points per possession was equal to the Baylor game and slightly better than OKState. Way better than Iowa State and basically equal to WVU. Then there was KU. That KSU game wasn’t about the wildcat but a poor QB for KSU and a dedication to the run game, which included some wildcat. In my opinion, the longer drives were a result of personnel limitations and dedication to the run game. Not the wildcat specifically. Not drastic improvement in Oline play (we gave up more TFL in the run game vs KState than any other team but Pig).

KState had 17 points at half. Only OU, WVU and KU had more at the half. And only KU had markedly more at the half. We had a shit ton of points at half versus OU. The Pig game was done entering the 4th quarter as was ISU. Otherwise only the KU game dictated a lack of patience from our offense.

Not sure how this got to the recruiting board anyway.

Until we load the roster. Find a way to win. Something everybody knows Sark hasn’t done.
  13. We figured out in game 12 that are only path to a 5 point victory against a below average Big 12 team was to literally take the ball out of our QB's hands and start snapping it directly to one of the only players on the roster who has any heart.

The objective is to find that path to victory in as many games as you can. Instead we found a way to lose 5 very winnable games. In 3 of those we had comfortable leads into the 2 nd half. Yes, the defense played the greatest part, but we had way too many 3 and outs in part because we forced it to two players. Some argued that the defense wore out because all our drives were quick strikes. The wildcat offered an alternative to assist in both those aspects. I know RoSchon was banged up yet he played so he obviously wasn’t too hurt.

My point was never that the wildcat was something you run out every half as a base offense, but it sure as shit was a useful weapon that was likely underutilized this season. Yes, it’s a change up. And I’d sure as hell have it teed up as an option for Bama. It’s not about forcing it either. We have great skill guys for that set.

There’s a lot of bitching on here about the best players playing. Roschon is certainly one of our best yet he and Bijan weren’t often on the field at the same time.
  14. this is what has me concerned about Sark.  He's a we're gonna run our shit guy.  He was literally forced into wildcat at the end of a gun.  for god's sake change some shit up and maybe we get a couple more wins.  how can you be a OC/Head Coach at this level at this time and not know wildcat inside and out?  its not the triple option or wishbone.  it's also why the second half collapses didn't shock me.  good DC's will stop your shit if you don't adjust.  yeah, I know, but what about Bama?  it will be years before we are in Bama's personnel position.  he could run his shit and eventually it would work.
not firing PK or at least someone on defense is the icing on the cake.  epically awful.
the fortunate recruiting close with the great NIL stuff and Cristobal bolting for Miami may save him but I'm not really seeing a guy who is really ready to cut shitty coaches(Coleman was a Herman holdover). Hell he couldn't even fire Harris(going by what CTJ is saying it appears to be very warranted).

Maybe it makes me a dumbass, but I’m choosing hope at this point. Hope that he can learn and adjust.

RoJo is the perfect wildcat QB. Well assuming he in fact can throw a little, but we haven’t seen that attempted. 4th and 1 versus Pig and 3rd and 1 versus OSU. Bijan blown up both times. We didn’t have enough bodies to block em or they were too far to get there. Those were true we’re gonna run our shit like you mentioned. Both crucial plays in determining the outcome.

Also in my mind was the thought that he’d overcome by stockpiling talent recruiting the Alabama way. NIL may help that. And the Oline haul says maybe he can.

  15. Sarks comments after the K state game were interesting he said “I’ve never majored in wildcat but we have the personnel to make that a big part of our offense moving forward” I bet Marion’s Go-Go could be used in the wildcat stuff. Sark could give him that portion of the O, if he wanted to

If he believes this, that has significant potential for next year.

There was some discussion about us not being able to sustain long drives this past year on this here board. Sark said that himself too.

Pretty sure we had 4 drives of 9 plays or more versus KState. Did we suddenly figure that out in game 12? I think No. Was RoJo not healthy enough for that critical mid-season stretch? Not sure. I believe it was a lack of commitment to it as a change of pace that was forced due to injuries in the final game. The wildcat with Robinson and Robinson. That’s a lot for a defense to account for. Add Whittington and Worthy, and you’ve got some great personnel for that package. It ain’t no Deuce Vaughn on 4th and 1 good, but it could work.

That was one potential solution to the times when we had stretches of 3 and outs. The jet sweep/pop pass was another drive starter we failed to use during these stretches. That was what kick started the offense vs WVU.
