  1. June OV recruiting season is not for the faint of heart. On the other hand, happy feeding season for all the recruiting energy vampires.
  2. A&M's Draft performance this year should be the canary in the coal mine for that program under Elko. Although their DL guys got drafted, the story with all of them was "they didn't have the performance that matched their expectations. They are getting drafted on potential." Defense is Elko's bread and butter, but he couldn't get that defense and the elite players to play at an elite level. It was just "meh." And no one can try the excuse of those weren't his players. Yeah they were. He recruited those guys, and he went to the portal to get the defense he wanted. The Year 1 Elko Experience is everything someone should expect out of Elko when it comes to development going forward. It's not going to be great by any means. Let's compound the lack of development with the non-existent QB recruiting. They are spending money elsewhere, but not at QB. Lack of development and talent at the QB position is a scary combo. I guess they are hoping that they will get lucky in the portal? It hasn't gone that way yet. They will win recruiting battles, but the lack of development across the board and the dearth of talent at QB will keep the 8-and-4 train chugging along.
  3. A&M piggybacked their way into the Roseborough recruitment as "close enough to Austin for mom." Sounds like they may have outsmarted themselves in their game theory on what to pay him for the commitment. That is if they think in those methods; unlikely they do. Brauny definitely doesn't understand that, but it's easy to sell subs on the tag line of whooping the gersh dern tsips for a recruit.
  4. This feels like one of the situations where an SEC reporter gets so anchored on a feeling/pick for an old SEC school, and the reporter discounts any new information related to Texas for one reason or another.
  5. Who said that Texas is taking a hard pass?
  6. https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/it-s-still-real-to-me-damn-it
  7. The Blake Ivy and Lamont Rogers wins are suspect. A&M did want Christian Jackson and Nate Kibble.
  8. Getting Blue Steel vibes with this pic
  9. Zion Robinson looks like one of those "remember when this guy was one of the top recruits when class rankings first started? Look at how far he fell" cases. 247 loves him at #10 in state, On3 has him at #79 in state. Not mentioned at all as a target for Texas. Michigan and Miami are the top landing spots.
  10. I prefer go head to head with Clemson instead of Miami.
  11. Today I learned about the heat death of the universe scenario
  12. Anyone describing recruiting as boring right now is an absolute masochist. They miss the pain and torture of pining for a 5 star (or a reasonable 4 star) that we had no realistic shot at landing. Malik-mas was fun and all as an example of what landing a highly recruit felt like during the Mack, Strong, and Herman days. But, I much rather land 5 star recruits like it's a regular everyday thing and experience the schadenfreude watching recruiting for OU, A&M, and the old vanguard of the SEC.
  13. This is the good stuff. When fans write this "wish-into-existence" content, you know that fanbase hasn't fully accepted the reality that is in front of them. If there was such a thing as a potential misery scale (calculated as: fan expectation - non-fan rational expectation) for the upcoming football season, I think OU has to be at the top. I can't wait to see this play out in 2025.
  14. My feeling is that Saban probably thinks he can get everyone on board with getting college sports back to exactly the way he likes it, and he probably thinks this commission is his golden opportunity to do it because he thinks he has the power and leverage to do it... Because gosh darnit he's the GOAT and they built a statue for him. But this commission will allow other people with real power, money, and leverage to insert their views and they will check Saban on his dream. Saban will likely throw some real temper tantrums because he isn't going to get exactly what he wants. He's going to end up looking like a fool that wants to keep things exactly the way they are, but everybody else is ready and willing to accept forms of change. After a while people will realize grandpa is losing it and it's time to put him in a home.
  15. Dakorien Moore committed on July 4th last year. My body is ready for this.
  16. The summer time recruiting meltdowns are enjoyable. Dakorien Moore picking Oregon and DT recruiting going to shambles last summer were great "our pets' heads are falling off" moments. If I had to pick two spots where we could see something similar this year, I am picking our top RB targets committing elsewhere and Turntine committing elsewhere. To be clear, I don't hope those things happen. But I think those things happening will cause the Surly servers to reach their max temperature thresholds.
  17. Rereading this... I misinterpreted the "education module" to mean academic requirements. Instead, it's some "transfer portal education" check-the-box training. Still, the "or" clause at the end makes it sound like a player can take forever to do the training module then actually have his name entered the transfer portal. Not sure if this may be the case with the mystery WR, but I don't think any grad transfer has done this yet. Sorry for any false hope here.
  18. My bad, I accidentally hit submit before adding in everything else. I edited the original now.
  19. I think there is still a window for grad students to transfer. The bold portion reads as though a student's name might not appear until completing all academic requirements. So, the potential WR could have notified the school, but the school can't put the name in until that player has graduated. https://web3.ncaa.org/lsdbi/reports/getReport/90008 13.1.1.4.2 Notification of Transfer -- Postgraduate Student-Athletes. A student-athlete who will participate as a postgraduate student at another institution following the next regular academic term or academic year (two semesters/three quarters) may initiate the notification of transfer process at any time between October 1 and the end of the final period specified for the applicable sport in Bylaw 13.1.1.4.1 by providing the student-athlete's institution with a written notification of transfer and completing an educational module related to transferring. The student-athlete's institution shall enter the student-athlete's information into the national transfer database within two business days of receipt of a written notification of transfer from the student-athlete or receipt of confirmation of the student-athlete's completion of the educational module, whichever occurs later. (Adopted: 9/21/22, Revised: 4/18/24, 6/26/24)
  20. This doesn't read like these are the actual rules in place right now. Terms of "moving forward" "are expected to" are too gray.
  21. Do I have OUs NIL strategy correct? - splurge on a handful of key impact positions (e.g., QB), portal or highschool - most of NIL goes to highschool recruiting, which should be cheaper than portal recruiting or roster retention. - hope they can be competitive in NIL to keep some of their current from portalling - deep value investing (e.g., FCS) in the portal to fill voids because they don't have money left after the 3 items above
  22. Might have to change the title of this sub forum soon assuming the acquisition will drive base prices up across on3/Rivals and 247. Maybe $19.95?
  23. The deadline is just for players to register in the portal to be eligible to transfer to another school. They can decide which school to transfer to after the portal closes. So, Bobby is saying Texas will see how the dust settles when the portal closes with 1) its own roster (how many and which spots open up), and 2) what players are available in the portal to fill any vacancies on the roster.
